Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

The only way you might be correct is if the numbers are low due to it being spring break. Your band is no louder than BU's.

We have the advantage of plugging into the sound system though, ha!

But at least the BU band is bearable unlike the tone deaf VT band we were subjected to two years ago.

By the way, do you guys know the Friday game has been moved from a 7:15 to 7:30 start as the game has been picked up for tv? At least a little more cushion to make it up from Boston during rush hour.

I've only seen the UVM band once or twice up at the Gut and from what I remember this description is correct - they were awful.

Yup. You don't mind if the band is ok to listen to but it was like they were some sort of hillbilly band playing washboards, kazoos, and jugs.

I think our is band excellent, but after hearing most of the same songs over an entire season, I don't mind hearing what BU has to offer. Especially if its something like "Don't Stop Believing" late in the 3rd :D

Irrelevant. They have a bass player. I believe electric guitar as well and funk it out with tunes like What is Hip? Tell me tell me if you think you know.. what I am laying down.

See what I did there? :)

You mean you don't like hearing Final Countdown 85,000 times? Lowell's band is really more a jazz band than a traditional college pep band. A cool twist, but comparisons are a bit apples/oranges.

Re: Greenway/Grier - I think their games are quite different. Greenway uses his strength to outmuscle opponents to get to the puck. Grier flat out crushed people. The "Grier treatment" was simply the refs simply couldn't take seeing Grier crush players with perfectly legal hits (such as the crushing hit on the BC player in the Beanpot (Callahan? Buckley?) that was called a charge when he clearly glided for the last few seconds before the hit). So they just started calling them penalties.

But I am noticing that players are already giving Greenway their own "Grier treatment" which is to let him get the puck in the corner and then engage him, rather than get the puck first and have to deal with him from a vulnerable position.

He is indeed a beast that could be unstoppable next season. A very pleasant surprise given how his "stock" dropped in his U-18 season.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Pretty much an ideal line. Someone to work the corners, someone to use speed and skill to find the open man, and a pure sniper. I'll take it!

See my post in BU Recruiting thread about another intriguing combo. Keep Greenway-JFK together and perhaps Carpenter moves back to wing to play w/ Keller and Bellows.

Thrilled to see CHN's probability matrix having at BU as 100% to make NCAA Tournament. I thought a sweep by Lowell may have dropped them to the 14-16 range. If PC could win last year, why can't BU win this year?

Our quality win bonus is the highest in the country, so that's helping quite a bit. At this point in the year, RPI doesn't shift nearly as much in either direction from results to by itself result in 5-7 line drop as would be necessary to fall to 14-16. Not that it's impossible, but unlikely.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

For those of you going, how are you getting your tickets? Did you order through BU? Are you going to go pick them up or get them at will call?

Ordered through BU, called them today they said they'd have them at Agganis for pickup tomorrow otherwise they'd be sent to Lowell for pickup at their will call. Might want to call Agganis and make sure that info is right, their ticket phone reps are notorious for not always getting their facts 100% straight.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

notice the boys haven't won more than FIVE games in any single month so far this season. so now they DO have 2 in their pocket. get 2 more this weekend and see what happens in boston, then at _______ !!!!

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

So by that logic you need to Lose this series in 3 games? I cna get behind it

I'm surprised Rogie didn't post this here yesterday -

Boston University wins 1991 Hockey East Championship in OT

Hard to believe it was 25 years ago!!! Holy crap I'm old. Thanks again to Sean Pickett for his curating all this cool video. And man, RIP to Mark Bavis, Scott Cashman and Shawn Walsh all featured in this clip and all taken before their time. :(

Tweeted it yesterday and it's featured in yesterday's Terrier Hockey Fan Blog post. mh82's chronicle of the '90-'91 season is here.

From the '91 NCAA title game, there's this clip of David Sacco's tying goal in the final minute of regulation. I recall seeing video of Amonte's shot in the final seconds but don't have a link for it.

Question: Was the '90-'91 team the most talented BU team to reach the Frozen Four but not win the title? Roster. I count ten players who reached the NHL.
EDIT: Make that 11. Forgot von Stefanelli

Has to be. At least in terms of measuring by the success they had after BU. If the 2009 miracle hadn't happened, it could perhaps be argues that the 2009 team had a better spread of talent in terms of true NHL regulars. But 90-91 had more high end talent.

Tkachuk, Amonte, McEachern, Lachance were the only ones who really stuck in the NHL, no? The rest were all sporadic: Ronan, Tomlinson, Ahola, vonStefineli (very brief),

vs.

Wilson, Bonino, Strait, Shattenkirk, Gryba as regulars with Gilroy, McCarthy also getting multiple cups of tea, then Yip and Warsofsky, and finally Cohen was very brief.
