Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 3 - The Postseason

JD Greenway was ranked #57 among N. Americans in the midterms. He plays a defense-first game, but knows how to pick his spots to get involved in the offense. He had a few nice rushes deep into the offensive zone against ASU. With Krys and Fabbro arriving and only one or two defensemen leaving, it would be difficult to bring JD aboard next year. Playing a year in junior to buff up his game and grades would be a good scenario for BU, which needs a second defenseman for the 2017 class, especially one with size, since Somerby and Hickey will be gone.

Thanks for the info (You, too, Agganis). Sounds like the kind of defenseman that I'd like to see at BU. Also sounds like one that would stick around and develop over the course of four years.

Between Spring Break, the fact that home playoff game tickets are no longer included in season ticket package, and the lack of excitement about having to play in 1st round, you get last night's attendance. I think it was a contributing factor to the team playing the way it did last night.

I don't expect much of an uptick in attendance tonight, but I do expect the team to play much better and would be disappointed in anything less than a convincing W.

I think there might be a sizable increase tonight, though still a smaller crowd than usual (maybe 2,500). The logic I used in going to tonight may be shared by others: if I'm going to go to one game, I'd rather see the series ending game.

Good teams are able to win poorly played games. That said the UVM, MC, and UCONN games are the reason they're playing this weekend. I'd expect a fairly one-sided game tonight. Umass played their best game last night.

Or not being able to score ONE STUPID GOAL last Saturday.

Cal Peterson absolutely stood on his head last Saturday, the offensive performance in that game, on the road on a senior night against a top 10 team, was nothing to bemoan. The kid for UMass last night had an equally spectacular game and prevented it from being a 5-1 laugher, despite some stretches of disinterested and poor defensive zone play from BU.

I'm expecting this game to be 5-0

entering the 3rd period.

If Quinny can find a way to roll Griz and McAvoy for 60 minutes, BU may win a flag.

Exactly- ridiculous that every team makes it
1100 at Northeastern
1752 at BU
2200 at Merrimack
4,000 at UConn- buzz over 1st playoff home game

I think this is smallest crowd ever at Agannis

i'm sure the 4k in hartford was a 'uconn 4k'

I completely agree that it is ridiculous that every team make a conference post season tournament. Turns a five month season into nothing more than a seeding process.

But if you look back to the final year of the old alignments in the sport, the average first round game in the HEA tourney only drew 2742 fans (according to boxscores found on USCHO). So far with a game left to be played the average this season is 2410. And it was brought down in large part due to the unusually small crowds at Agannis. Had BU drawn the same crowds they drew for their first round games in 2013 the averages would have been within around 65 fans per game.

I think the trend everywhere is for these games to be drawing fewer people, regardless of the tourney format or the conference. We all know the first day of the B1G tournament will have just a few hundred people in the stands (regardless of what boxscores say, they've been inflating those numbers almost everywhere for the better part of a decade now).

Hockey East could scrap the conference tournament and play 3 more weekends of league play, rotating the extra three opponents among the 12 teams yearly and giving the auto bid to the champion after 28 games. This would of course require the NCAA to change the allowed number of regular season games I would imagine.

I think Mookie could care less about the actual hockey games, he'd just buy a ticket to see Jasmine. The hockey is a semi-interesting sideshow.

Saw some pictures, actually seemed legit. Was the only site where people seemed psyched to be there for the game. I'm surprised MC and UNH being so close to one another couldn't even sell out that sandbox of an arena.

Perhaps teams 1-10 making it and 7-10 playing the play-in series or a single game on a Saturday would help.
