I may start if ASU keeps taking potshots at our recruits!

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 2-move along! nothing to see here! all is w

And now Chad Krys to the box!! It's like they know I'm here!

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 2-move along! nothing to see here! all is w

Clayton Keller with the lone shootout goal to give the U-18 team the win over ASU. Krys and Bellows each with three penalties. Not the best night for them.

Is this the same U18 team that beat us in October and they had trouble with ASU?

Same team, but we aren't the "good" team they have beaten. Not sure why they struggled against ASU.

well, according to scarlet the 'bu 4' spent most of the night in the box!

BU 3. The 4th is the goalie. He didn't play.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 2-move along! nothing to see here! all is w

if BU had to play a third of each game a man down (their discretion as to timing), would umass be able to extend series to a 3rd game?

From what I've seen of Amherst recently, they've just totally quit on their coach. I don't think the players would even want a third game.

I wonder if we're the best team ever in HE to not have home ice in the quarterfinals? I recall years where BU, BC, UNH, and Maine were all good, but not a 5th team in the top 10 or 11 in the country.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 2-move along! nothing to see here! all is w

Just two seasons ago Notre Dame finished 8th and they were a 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. They were probably ranked 10 or 11th heading into the HE tournament.

1993-94 Maine. Played at #1 BU in the quarters. But there were, of course, extenuating circumstances.

Hard to figure out where they were in the PWR at the time, but in 2013 UNH was ranked #7 in the poll and was the HE 5 seed. (That was the last year of the 10-team league so it was just 8 teams in the playoffs, no byes)

It all depends on what you are using for the national ranking, but as College Hockey News allows you to customize the PWR for the past 11 seasons I used it to obtain the PWR rankings at the end of the Hockey East regular season back to 2005-06. I've been charting the regular season finishes for Hoceky East since the league started for another subject, but I added in the PWR ranking of the top 5 teams, and any others with a higher PWR than one of the top 5, for each season.

Code:
Season 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th
2005-06 BU-4	ME-11	BC-15	UNH-12	PC-24	UVM-21	UML	MA
2006-07 UNH-4	BC-8	BU-7	MA-15	ME-12	UVM	NU	PC
2007-08 UNH-3	BU-18	UVM-19	BC-8	PC-20	NU	UML	MA
2008-09 BU-1	NU-8	UNH-10	UVM-4	UML-24	BC-17	MA	ME
2009-10 UNH-10	BC-4	BU-23	ME-22	UML-18	MC	MA	UVM-15
2010-11 BC-2	UNH-12	BU-16	MC-9	ME-18	NU	UVM	MA
2011-12 BC-1	UML-3	BU-6	ME-10	MC-15	UNH	PC	MA
2012-13 UML-4	BC-7	BU-17	PC-21	UNH-8	MC	ME	UVM
2013-14 BC-2	UML-8	PC-11	UNH-20	NU-15	ME-21 UVM-14	ND-10
2014-15 BU-6	PC-9 BC-10	UML-16	ND-31	NU	UVM	UNH
2015-16 BC-5	PC-4	ND-9	UML-12	BU-10	NU	MC	CT
A quick look shows that 2 seasons ago Notre Dame was 10th in the pairwise despite finishing 8th in the league standings and in 2012-13 New Hampshire was 8th in the pairwise with a 5th place finish. So a quick answer to the home ice question is probably a qualified no. As for a 5th team in the top 10-11, UMass Lowell is 12th, so that has still not happened. However, it is the first time Hockey East has 5 in the top 12 at the end of the regular season.

I had the exact same thought. BU sweeping that series is one of my "unsung" team performances since I have been following the Terriers. Where was Maine in the standings before the forfeits - second place? They dropped to 8th with the forfeits, get a judge to force HE to let them play, they brought their band to WBA, had the Ferraro brothers back from the Olympics, and we still won in two. Winning that series gave the team the mojo to win the HE tourney, and to beat the Gophers on their (basically) home ice in the national semis. I forget what happened after that. :D

Maine not only had the forfeits, but played most of the regular season without the Ferraros, Kariya or Mike Dunham due to the Olympics. Think they were all back for the playoffs. Plus the 1994-95 Maine team was no slouch, with a lot of the same guys, as you may more favorably remember from the NCAA title game.
