Agree he's not trying to take the program down, but it's completely irresponsible "journalism" on his part. He's not even getting the story out first, he's teasing that a story exists, that it's bad, that he knows what it is and won't tell, and is accomplishing nothing more than fanning the flames of rumors. Shameful.

Regardless, it'll be interesting to say the least to learn how many current/former players from other programs were reportedly caught up in this. I suspect there will be more to this...

CHN posted a story 15 minutes ago. I'd post a link, but I'm traveling.

The CHN report does indicate reports that other teams had players involved as well. Frankly, I don't really care and no one else really should either. It's legally on the same level as playing Draft Kings or playing cards in someone's basement. Dumb move by Roberto and the other guys, but a whole lot of nothing to see here.

Here's the story:
http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2015/12/21_bus_roberto_suspended_for.php

Summary - NO BETTING ON BU GAMES OR COLLEGE HOCKEY GAMES. Involved in previously linked gambling ring that was busted. May involve players from other teams. Also involved is former BC/UMass player Keith O'Connell.

Step off the ledge, this does not appear to be some program-crippling scandal. Glad someone finally reported the story and BU came out and ended the farce of these rumors.

.....but when the craziness of throwing hockey games was being tossed around who didnt think of OConnor throwing the puck (championship) into his own net. At least that made sense for a moment like what else could he be doing?

"Very damaging to BU"

OK jeff!

Well sure, but you have to be wearing one hell of a tin foil hat to go from entertaining that thought to actually believing it.

The reference to and no comment regarding an investigation into the BU hockey program is a source of concern, isn't it?

I read the article as the NCAA performed an investigation and took action (presumably the one year suspension for him), although I could see reading it as a further investigation is still ongoing.

Nah, it says BU investigated, turned it over to the NCAA who investigated and took their own remedial action - all past tense. The NCAA is not one to take any significant "remedial action" and not telling anyone about it. No indications from that article that there's some major underlying investigation going on here.

I would have to think it's a little harder to throw a hockey game than other sports. What do you guys think?

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 2-move along! nothing to see here! all is w

As serious as all of this sounds, it could be as simple as Roberto and others played daily fantasy on fanduel or draftkings. Pretty sure the NCAA considers those sites gambling.

Re: Boston University 2015-16 thread part 2-move along! nothing to see here! all is w

Yeah, it doesn't sound like BU did anything wrong here. It sounds like Quinn informed the right people right away and they sat him out until they got a decision by the NCAA.

As for the players who did the gambling, it is stupid because they know it's against the rules, but come on ... it's not really that bad from a moral standpoint.

For every position except goalie. Getting the goalie on the take would be like getting a starting pitcher or a quarterback.

Nah, seems this was through a bookie, which is actually no worse since FD and DK are the same things as bookies. But the article makes it seem this was tantamount to him and some others betting on some pro games. Dumb move by them, that's about it.

Are there actually persons who bet on college hockey games? Is there a sufficient number of them to create a market?

More to the point, is this a story that will interest Mary Carmichael?

What would that have to do though with the AG office busting the 30-odd guys last month that appears to be attached to this?

Maybe now that it's "public" hoky can tell us (since he knows).

No, it's bad

If you get deep enough in the hole people can pressure you.

I bet on college hockey games! Legally, in Las Vegas. But there are some people who do it.
