Boston University 2012 Offseason

Don't play dumb, you know that's how the media works. They don't need to reveal their sources. It's then up to the individual to decide on who they're going to believe. But let's not pretend that just because Colby said something that his side of the story is automatically true. And it's not like he would ever come out and admit that the allegations were true.

Yeah, you'd never be dumb enough to only look at one side of a story, jump to conclusions and make a bunch of outlandish statements with no facts.

Chris Connolly just tweeted this FYI " Just read @ColbyCohen36 response to the BU investigation. I love it, agree with it, and respect his decision to step up. #BUhockeyfamily"

Did I not say that Cohen could be telling the truth? What conclusions have I jumped to? What outlandish statements have I made? At least come with some substance.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Whats getting worse? There was the task force report, the article the next day that contained the rumored info about the party at Aggains and a couple of op-ed's since then. Not like we have been hearing new allegations and info.

What's getting worse is the feeding frenzy and accompanying feeling of a team under seige until they clean house. I'll say again, even the slightest incident this year (an underage player boozing for example) is going to get blown up into part of the narrative of a team out of control. Some of my fellow fans seem to think this should have blown over already. I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Anyone willing to discard Colby Cohen's comments should equally discard any other unsubstantiated comments, anonymous or otherwise, made to the Globe or task force by a single person. Both have reasons to tell the truth, and both have reasons to lie. So if you're willing to throw the program and Parker under the bus because one girl said a hockey player shoved his hand down her pants, you should also be willing to accept that nothing bad or illegal occurred at the Agganis party.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

As is often the case, most likely the truth is somewhere in between.

I'm not sure about the "nothing bad or illegal occurred at the Agganis party," part of your comment. After all, Colby Cohen was under 21 at the time and I have a feeling they weren't suppose to be at the arena at all. Not so sure I would go so far as breaking and entering; but maybe illegal trespassing. Someone with a legal background could speak better of this topic than I.

I'm discarding Colby Cohen's comments because there were several people that the task force interviewed that all had very similar accounts as to what took place that night and it doesn't seem to agree with Colby's account. Perhaps Corey Trivino slipped roofies into Cohen's beer by mistake and he passed out and missed all the fun?

Do you agree, then, that there is some orchestrated conspiracy at BU trying to submarine the hockey program by all giving similar accounts to the subcommittee in separate interviews? And who do you think is behind this conspiracy?

Where is this coming from? Mary's paper account listed "one" student who claimed to be there and saw sex. Was this student a player? A sexer? Where they in fact there? Was any other person there that told the task force (I'm guessing Mary would have mentioned that too).

She did mention that two players and a staffer from athletics department told that Parker reprimanded the team... Parker said he found out guys were drinking in the shower. I'd bet he yelled at them for that. I don't think he yelled at them for having sex in the box (as he may have not known).

You, nick, are connecting the dots by taking liberties. I've not seen presented so far that would lead to the same conclusions.

Perhaps this all did happen. But right now we don't have a smoking gun... Er wanker.

"several hockey players, students, and an athletics staffer consistently described the debauched victory party"

She leaves a little wiggle room but not that much depending on how you define debauchery.

There isn't much connecting the dots that needs to be done. You all think this is journalistic sensationalism. It's not. The girl has the report in her hands and she's not an idiot. She isn't lying, making stuff up, or trying to create a story out of nothing. Multiple people had very consistent accounts when reporting to the subcommittee. Believe what you want to believe (or ask the young lady). If there is any doubt, you're in the tinfoil hat group trying to figure out who is conspiring against the program and went to the subcommittee and lied to them.

vast pinhead conspiracy?

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

I'm reading the sept 6th Mary story. "graphic details emerge".-----

"it was insane, one former student who attended told the by task force, people were having sex in the penalty box"

...
"yet at least two players and an athletics staffer told the task force that within days of the party Parker reprimanded the entire team for its behavior"

----- from where is your quote coming?

Sept 7th column: "BU reeling...

A HA!!! :)

So, after one day Mary re-read the report? Was there a new report? That sentence the next day is much more inflammatory than the original, wouldn't you say? The only thing new she brought to this was the trustees angle. Did space cause her to combine the two distinct sentences from the day before into one blanket condemning statement. On the 6th it was one students quote. On the 7th....? Hockey players, students, and staffers consistently describe... On the 6th the hockey players and staffers only were stated to have said Parker reprimanded the team.

There probably is something here, but this girl isn't any woodstein or bernward! :). And she plagiarized herself I'll bet. Re-wrote the piece and made it more powerful.
If she had these facts, why not submit it correctly the first time on the 6th?

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

We'll know there is a hostile agenda if all of the Globe Columnists take shots one after another topped off by Mike Barnicle coming back for a guest appearance as the "designated hitter!"

I just got more dizzy than that time I smelled Parker's breath
