Boston University 2012 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

So after six months of "investigation," the university comes up with...NOTHING! That's what happens when you have someone's cronies investigate them.
Parker epitomizes the 'womb-to-the-tomb' hack, cemented in his role more than Jack Williams and the insufferable Steve Burton over at WBZ. It's clear he cares about his own hide more than he does the reputation of 'his' team. We like poking fun at the coach of UNH for his 'longevity,' but at least his team hasn't disgraced the school it's attached to. 'University of No Hardware,' sure. But we're talking major-league ridicule and blatant sexual harassment at BU...neither of which exist in Durham.

This is more of a response than your post deserves.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

No worries, Chris. As someone else noted, we should be thankful Parker is sticking around.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

What I want is for Bob Brown to tell Parker privately to start preparing for a transition and think about how he'd like to wrap things up because he will only be allowed to coach out the remaining years of his contract and that's final. Some may say "oh, he plans on doing that anyway" but I'm not so sure. BU needs to be sniffing around now for the best candidate to take over and start making overtures (Quinn, Sullivan, etc).

I think there is actually a reasonable possibility that this is the case. Regardless of the outcome, the last 10 months placed a dark cloud over the university that most certainly impacted some non-hockey player decisions not to attend the university - perhaps even some hockey players. Brown can't be pleased either way. And it isn't as if the on-ice results would scream that it would be crazy for him to retire. I've stated many times that I am ready for a change, and Parker said himself in that interview a while back that he has trouble relating to today's players. The writing is on the wall, and this may have been the final push to say it is time to call it a career after 20XX season (when does the contract expire - 2015?).

Take it for what it's worth:

I'd like to thank the Task Force for taking a whiz on my degree. Can I get a partial refund on my tuition / donations over the years?

My MET classes were every bit as demanding as the classes I took in CAS. I'm glad that the actions of 2 dumb ***** hockey players who don't understand the meaning of the words "when" and "no" were the fault of what the University itself seems to consider one step above an art correspondence school.

Whatever, see if I give them a dime anytime soon...

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Whatever comes of this, it would be nice not to have to listen to foul-mouthed Parker shouting expletives while my kids are around.

I've been to probably near a hundred games and have never been able to actually hear Parker swear (though I know he does). Also, college sporting events aren't known for being events of exemplary behavior.

No one here cares about what does or doesn't happen at UNH.

I fully agree that it makes no sense for a university to suggest that its athletes should not be allowed to be enrolled in a certain program in the school. If MET is part of the university (and it is), then there is no reason that athletes shouldn't be allowed to enroll in it. If MET is indeed less rigorous than the other colleges then why should athletes be held to a higher standard than the average student. I agree that athletes should be held to an equal standard and since the average student is allowed to enroll in MET, athletes should as well.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

It's Boston University led by an egomaniac in Jack Parker. Of course the players are going to feel entitled.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

This is all so ridiculous. Athletes from the beginning of time have been able to pick up girls more easily than others. I guarantee you players at Maine, UNH, Merrimack, Lowell, etc have the same feelings that BU players do. These players are the big men on campus. That will never change as long as there are college athletics.

Where it crosses the line is sexual assaults, not the entitlement.

Just to make clear, what I am saying is that a lot of people feel entitled. Not everyone who feels entitled sexually assaults girls.

This. And while the report found that this situation exists at BU, it also found that there is no pattern of the behavior crossing the line into sexual assault and other illegal activity any more so than the rest of the student population, thus making the whole premise of the problem they were investigating somewhat ridiculous.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Are you saying that the investigation and the steps the school is taking to prevent future occurrences is unnecessary???

Well duh.

Nicastro's charges were dropped so he was completely innocent.

Trivino plead guilty BUT we all know it is the RA's fault for not knowing the RA rules about opening her door. It's clearly her fault and he did nothing wrong.

So... knowing this, there is no problem, there was no need for a task force, but since there was one, obviously the task force realized this and made no recommended changes (other than the 14 recommended steps they believe BU should make).

No culture problem with the BU hockey team. Keep boozing it up and sexually assaulting girls, it's all good, because it's about commensurate with the same rate regular students have at BU and we shouldn't hold the hockey players to a higher standard.

DUH.
