Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Assuming Grzelcyk stays, who is BU's best defensive defenseman on the roster? We all know what Noonan can bring offensively but willl BU struggle to keep pucks away from 2 freshmen goalies?

I would say this is the biggest weakness on the team. When you're looking to Sean Escobedo and Ryan Riukka to be your defensive defensemen, that king of tells the story. I think Escobedo improved last year, but I thought Riukka did not. That's not to say those guys aren't capable of making a big jump in their own end, but unless they do, BU will have some struggles in this area. We could us e a couple if Brian Straits on the team...

Could be right here. I think BU will also have to rely heavily on forwards backchecking to help out with the d. Who's the better guys capable of that role?

Well, it's been a week since Hokydad posted that a 2012 recruit is headed to Major Junior, yet still no word since then. What's going on? When is the announcement coming? Or, at least, a few more rumblings?

I'm bullish on Macgregor and can see him being a force, especially partnering Noonan. That's not to say backchecking won't be important though. Judging by the couple of games I watched, Lane looks like an incredibly hard working 2 way forward.

Given the lack of an announcement, info anywhere (including the Remparts site), the fact that their season has begun, the lack of any further info from Hoky, and an inability to think of what the delay could be, I'm beginning to think this was a false alarm. Really, what could the delay be? It's not like he (whoever it may be) needs to clear any academic hurdles to play MJ.

I meant returning players, not untried and untested rookies who have not even gotten a practice jersey yet..(no disrespect to you or the rookies intended).

i renewed the ducats on wednesday...
I did so yesterday, but not before declaring my annual gripes:
1. How much am I paying to see Toronto on a Sunday afternoon?
2. Is this the year you put the "hot" back in hot dogs?
3. Hey, RSIG! Leave the kids alone.

BTW- posting this between tacos at Shubies in Marblehead. Stunningly good food here. Fish tacos crazy delicious.

Perhaps the mystery player is playing it smart and making sure Patrick Roy's check doesn't bounce. ;)

Chris Peters of United States of Hockey was bullish on Lane, too, based on his play at the World U18s:

Matthew Lane — If you didn’t know much about Lane before, you better start learning. He was named one of Team USA’s best three players at the tournament and was more than deserving of that honor. Lane posted seven points (3g-4a), but was so much more than that. With his strong forechecking and ability to win just about every puck battle he was in shows that he can be a force. Lane’s speed is his standout tool. He might be Team USA’s fastest forward. He’s not just fast though, as he knows how to use his speed to generate offense. Lane’s line with J.T. Compher and Frankie Vatrano had a lot to do with Team USA’s success at the tournament. It is likely that Lane jumped up a round or two with his play at the U18 Worlds. Committed to Boston University.

I'd expect him to compete for the 3rd or 4th line. Should be interesting to see how he does in the All-American Prospects Game in Buffalo next month.

Hoky wrong again?

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Jason Lawrence was said to be a can't miss player. He was good but I'm not sure he was ever more than the 4th or 5th best player on the team.

I'm not sure how "Can't Miss" that Jason Lawrence was, because I do not believe that he was drafted.
He was pretty average for three seasons, and then had a terrific senior year. It takes some players longer than others, although some never do live up to their advance billing.

Myron and Moran aren't getting a lot of hype, but I'll bet they both end up good or very good college players.

Can't speak to what was thought of Lawrence as a pro prospect, but he was very highly regarded as a collegiate recruit. He was also recruited by Harvard, UNH and Maine.

Agreed. IIRC he played on a U18 first line with Kane and Kessel.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

yes, hindsight is 20/20. :) We based his stock on those point totals. He evidently takes it up a notch when surrounded with top-notch talent like 2009.
