Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Something I forgot to mention...I brought a work colleague with me who is: from Montreal, son played for Harvard, and currently plays for the Montreal Canadiens. Fair to say he knows a bit about hockey. This is what he had to say to me this morning:

"That goalie he was fighting the puck...never seen such bad technique." and "Why did BU give up so many odd man rushes? Their defensmen they back up too far and turn the puck over all night"

Granted you don't need a PhD in hockey to know that's what happened but it was hard to just rehash.

Other crappy losses: Holy Cross, Brown, Robert Morris...just glad we don't play AIC or Bentley.

Yep. I knew it would take somebody about 10 seconds to figure that out. He's a chemist...so am I.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Mr. Oksanen had a particularly bad night, being on the ice looking lost for the goals 3, 4, and 5, and making some poor passes as well. He's just a freshman, so I'll give him a pass, but two things come to mind. 1) My guess is that he sits the next game, when Alexx returns, instead of the previous Ruikka/MacGregor bench rotation and 2) Pierre Maguire might have jinxed him when he mentioned scouts in the stands to watch him. He likely dropped a couple rounds last night.

I wish I could have "dropped a couple rounds last night" after watching that debacle. As long as I only had to pay for one. :)

I grabbed my Boston Globe this morning to read about BU's workman like 5-2 win, and it said 6-5 Harvard.:eek::confused:

BU Hockey: Time To Mention the "L" Word. Rhymes with Bleederslip

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Just overall a terrible loss. Even when we were up 4-2, I thought we were lucky to be, as it seemed Harvard was playing much better than us.
- O'Connor has clearly come back to earth in a big way. He got the W at UNH, but has otherwise struggled lately. To the point where it seems Maguire should be the clear #1. But just like with Oksanen, I think it is important to remember that these guys are freshmen, and there is a reason they come to play college hockey - they need to continue to develop. Hopefully, he tweaks a few things and gets his confidence back.
- Pretty cool O'Regan show. Mom had a BU shirt and Crimson scarf on.

Still in striking distance in the midrange of the PWR with I believe the easiest schedule remaining on the season. Gotta get Maguire in there and let him do his thing. O'Connor is a mess and reminds me of Ben Bishop, who had similar size and similar issues with lateral stuff and pucks sneaking in behind him. If he can learn the finer parts of the position he'll be able to use his size well but right now, yuck.

I noticed #5 was on the ice for 3 of the goals last night as well. He must be tired from winning that gold medal.

Like Doc Emrich said last night, great game to watch if you were not a BU coach or fan. NBC Sports picked a good one. I love Doc Emrich. No tired cliches or metaphors and he has historical perspective of college hockey.

Doc was in mid-season form last night. He is the greatest.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

I'm assuming that was his last game of the college season...

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Is that a euphemism for cooking Meth? ;-)

No! But I def. could have used some for that drive home. So avoidable. So hard to watch. Why do we as sports fans get upset when our teams lose? Makes no sense. If BU wins I don't get nuthin'.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

This was your first "bad" loss of the season. It happens. The biggest thing though is that it was a kick in the nuts when it comes to the PWR.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

It was a meaningful win for Harvard, but I think it would have meant more to players and fans if it were in the Beanpot.
