Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

I noticed #5 was on the ice for 3 of the goals last night as well. He must be tired from winning that gold medal.

#5 did not have a good night. I think he's suffering from lastcuthitis.

Did anybody ask if they were hung over or not? Tuesday might be a big drinking night or something. I thought that was "free pizza with a pitcher of beer" night at Crossroads when I was in school back in the day....

Nothing beat deaf night on Mondays!

You assume wrong. Doc and Pierre are calling the Princeton vs. Union game tomorrow night. He said as much during last night's broadcast.

I did not watch every second of the game, but was fortunate enough to see the Harvard comeback.

Did "Coach Cranky" toss any players under the bus to the Press after the game?

Here are the quotes:

“I thought the way we played in the third period was a disgrace”

“We acted like the game was over when we made it 5-2 and then we just went to sleep and couldn’t get it back. When they scored the third goal, their bench erupted and my team just died. I don’t think I had one guy who played well – five goals and not one guy played well. I don’t remember being this disappointed in a BU team in a long time. That’s three games in a row that we’ve played poorly.”

“It was a bad game in the goal, it was a bad game in the d-zone coverage, it was a bad game on the initial rush coverage, it was a bad game on the penalty kill. It was an unbelievable low point.”

Typical Parker. Throws his team under the bus and gives no credit to the opposing team.

Typical Parker.... gives no credit to the opposing team.

"The way Harvard played in the third period was a feather in their cap. They played so hard. They kept coming after us"

I guess you didn't actually listen to his interview?

No, I didn't. I read the quotes posted by JD. If Parker gave credit to Harvard, my apologies.:o

Doc was in mid-season form last night. He is the greatest.

Even when in the intro he said Harvard was an ECHL team I didn't have the usual "here's a national guy butchering the college game" reaction. He even slowed down as he said the letters -- you could tell his brain was going "Hold on, that's not right."

Did anybody ask if they were hung over or not? Tuesday might be a big drinking night or something. I thought that was "free pizza with a pitcher of beer" night at Crossroads when I was in school back in the day....

Boy was that a good deal. A lot of weeknights were spent at Crossroads.

No, I didn't. I read the quotes posted by JD. SINCE Parker gave credit to Harvard, my apologies.:o

Wasn't that Wednesday nights?

I think he did give them credit but does he ever say that he and the coaching staff didnt do their jobs? Clearly he should if he hasn't because they didn't

Bingo...I think that's it. It's always his players' fault, never his.

I don't disagree, and I've raised concerns with this approach ever since he started doing it about 6 or 7 years ago. The one thing I will say though, is that I feel that in a way, he thinks he IS giving himself the blame, as in "If I say they clearly weren't prepared for the game, and it is the coaches job (including me) to get them ready, then we obviously failed". If this is true, then what he needs to do is actually SAY that he is to blame, at least every now and then, to eliminate the impression that he is passing the buck.

This next stretch of games is critical. If the team right's the ship and gets 20+ wins and makes some playoff noise, this three game stretch will be viewed as just a hiccup (sort of like BC"s typical early season woes that lead to national titles). If the team starts playing .500 ball the rest of the way, then those calling for change will start making noise again (including me).

Personally, while confidence can be a huge deal and winning lends a great deal to confidence, my concern for BC, and BU as well if I was a BU fan (ha!), is that these two teams have the easiest schedules remaining in the league and wins down the stretch against such weak competition may mask some problems that get exposed come tournament time. Are any BU fans worried about this? Or just pile up wins and keep moving in the right direction?

I think you're right. Lets see...I can't remember Monday, maybe I took that day off to study. Tuesday was The Dugout when Bernie Corbett used to tend bar there (RIP Billy Doyle BTW, who passed away before X-mas)...Wed was Crossroads, Thurs was the BU Pub, Fri/Sat was hockey. Good times!

Parker's had this problem (team not putting in full effort, or collectively taking games off) for 20 years. Anybody who remembered the 9-1 blowout in the championship vs Lake St knows that. They may as well not even gotten dressed for that game. I can site numerous other instances but I won't bother. For whatever reason his players aren't motivated. That may not matter over the course of a long season, but in the do or die playoffs where one loss sends you packing, I worry about these guys putting in the effort for 4 straight games to earn some hardware.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

I have said many times that I HATE when JP doesn't take the blame when his team goes in the ****ter. As a leader, it is HIS responsibility to see that this doesn't happen. This is where leadership should rule the day. I understand why the team let up and started to coast. That's human nature. Up 5-2, getting into the paint to score some workman-like goals, what me worry? I've played in many a game where I had a decent lead and I let up a bit. BUT, as a coach of 40 years, he's gotta anticipate this. Or at the very least, see it happening once it got to 5-3. I will also add, that if the goalie doesn't play a C- game, they still win. It wouldn't have been pretty, but...

Here's hoping this is a wake-up call for the upperclassman who have to self motivate.

This loss could be a KILLER with regards to the power.

This team could be pretty good, but I don't think they have Frozen Four talent.

Just win the ****ing Beanpot already. :)

Frozen Four talent????

UNH 4 BU 1
North Dakota 4 BU 2
BC 4 BU 2
UNH 3 BU 1
BC 5 BU 2
Denver 6 BU 0

2-6 vs top 20 teams, I wouldnt worry about Frozen Four.

Outscored 26-8 in the 6 losses
