Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

He played in all 13 games. It's not like he hasn't been in the lineup. What gives? Might leave you one body short, but it will cut down on the moronic penalties taken...

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Maybe BU makes a run at Cam Darcy now? I know they were interested previously. Although, I'd imagine he wouldn't be eligible to play until the fall.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Darcy is a solid player but my money is on Darcy heading to Umass-Amherst. Umass might end up with a solid offense if it turns out that way.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Would it be too late for BU to use whatever freed up scholarship money there is now to try and get someone for next semester? Just curious more than anything. Not sure how the whole between semesters stuff works.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

what in the hell are you talking about?!?! humiliate him?!?! huh??

Ok weird the link didn't work. How's this? You know I don't need to make stuff up.

Parker doesn't like the way he played last night so decided to humiliate him by dressing him and sitting him.

Not too late, although it would use up a full year of eligibility so teams rarely accelerate a recruit slated for the upcoming fall. There are also other logistical issues especially around academic entrance, obviously.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

I've found over the years that some kids just don't find the game to be fun anymore and view all things hockey as a chore. I know I did. When it happens is different for everyone.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

My thoughts:

1)Cisse was a no impact player. At least a no positive impact player. If that was due to injuries that's unfortunate and not his fault but from a team standpoint he wasn't producing on the ice.

2) Am disturbed with all the departures especially when the kids leaving have no prospects. Wilson and Bonino leaving early made sense. The other guys it seems like they just want out regardless of what the future holds. At the very least I'd like to see some consideration for recruiting kids who have an actual love of the program instead of guys looking to put in a couple of years almost like its a chore as steakbomb alluded to.

Recruiting kids that love of the program and value the educational opportunity ... This is and always has been a pitfall for schools like BC and BU that can recruit nationally and especially into Canada. BU has fallen into this a bit more IMO as BC has been doing a little better locally on the recruiting front. Of course, when you toss a kid off the team because he was studying for a final, well, that just really shows you things are a bit out of whack there in Jack Parker's. Very few Canadians actually value the education over the hockey, simply because hockey means so much to these people. It's a cultural issue (sorry for this wording as I know this is a sensitive topic) for kids from north of the border in most cases (not all).

It'll be interesting to see what happens if a forward misses a game later this year. I wonder if Parker would push a D up to forward for the weekend like he did with Warsofsky and then play both Ruikka and MacGregor instead of alternating between the two. Hopefully we don't find out.

From now on can you add "according to the player" when you repeat this over and over again. The kid and his dad cried like he never dd anything wrong, which if there are people to listen to them do so, that's their option and more power to them.

At least we didn't have to read that Jerry kicked Motherwell off the team because he and his dad were praying rosary...

I don't know if it falls to the parents or the coaches but somebody needs to tell these kids that their chances of making a living playing hockey post college are very, very slim. I can only speak for BU, but last year if you put aside the players on the national championship team in 2009 there were a grand total of three BU players by my count holding down jobs in the NHL (Aucoin who's been in the league since the 70's I think, DiPietro who's often injured and VDG). The point being they might want to work on getting a degree with their free ride because most likely they'll be doing a couple of years in Europe and then that's it.

Cisse is a good example. Exactly what other hockey opportunities is he going to pursue? Zamboni driver?

Pandolfo, Poti, Whitney off the top of my head.

and mookie ain't no hypocrite. i mentioned it when it happened then, but mookie left the bench in high school during a basketball game because he wasn't playing and should have been (). now when you do that on a court it is noticed by everyone and peeps can see right away what's going on. afterwards back in school mookie had a sitdown with the coach (since mookie's locker was right outside the coach's classroom :o and things got talked over and worked out and mookie was back on the bench.

buoldtimer loves it when mookie refers to himself in the third person.

If you repeat something false over and over again, doesn't it become true? :)

Nicky was making sense until that point though.

A colleague at work who's kid played in the NE prep scene and I were going through hockeydb.com and looking at some players he or I thought had a chance at getting to the NHL. Amazing how many of them were languishing in either the ECHL or in Europe. Unless you are a 1st or 2nd round draft pick and a near "can't miss," it makes a lot of sense to finish school and get your degree.

While there are a thousand variations I always thought one of them was kids saying "hey, living in west campus, training at BU and enjoying college life in Boston is better than moving away from home to play on a junior team in some god forsaken place and the then the tradeoff is studying/following college team rules vs. getting paid/following hockey team rules".

That decision could be one thing when you are 18 and quite another 2 years later.

Isn't college baseball similar?

Regular college kids drop out mid-year, no reason why athletes would be immune. A school where that never happens is either very fortunate or very accomodating. Or both.

It's either that or Ronan/Moscatel, right? The obvious choice to make the switch from D to F would be Warsofsky 2.0 aka Grzelcyk, but I'm not so sure I wouldn't rather stick Ronan on the 4th line and maybe double shift some of the freshman (lane, myron, moran, kurker) in his place

I can't recall... Did Mary run an exposé in the globe of how Jerry obstructed justice when he booted players and claimed it was internal? Did the DA investigate? (Either middlesex or Norfolk since chestnut hill is in a different county). Seems like a nice fast track to news headlines and the governsor's office.
