Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Your #2 was 03-04. And the description is incomplete without Sean Fields turning to the BC students and flapping his arms like a bird once the series was over.

I'll add in the 3 goals in 44 seconds in 08-09.

Plus for more sentimental value than actual importance the stick salute from the BU team to the BU fans after the 5-0 win at Conte last year while BC players watched, made better by York complaining about it.

How about Brian McGuirk scoring his first (and only) goal of the 2006-2007 season in OT of the Beanpot championship.

Okay, I introduced the coaching topic, so I'll change it up.

What are your favorite BU vs BC moments in recent memory?

Three that jump to my mind:
1. The Lawrence-Higgins-Yip three on two to win the 2006 HE Championship (all subsequent games from that season have been erased from my memory bank) :-)
2. The #8 vs #1 series win at Conte, with Eric Thomassian, of all people, scoring a big goal in Game 3 - what year was that? We barely finished 8th, beating UNH in OT to grab the last playoff spot. After beating BC, we lost to Jimmy Howard and Maine, 1-0. 2004?
3. Justin Maiser's third goal of the game to beat the Eagles in the 2003 HE Semifinals in 2OT.

Showing my age here, but my fave was the 1991 Beanpot Final. Tony Amonte gets knocked out, then comes back to score three goals, and senior Mark Krys got his first goal ever, Terriers win 8-4.

OK, so it wasn't recent. Too bad. It's still my fave.

which was scored after BC had scored in the OT but the light never went on and no explanation was given, so it never happened. Yeah, that was great and i was sitting right in that corner above where Yip scored the second game winner of OT. I threw up in my mouth

I liked when Mike Grier checked whoever that BC kid was into next week.
To the best of my recollection, that was one of the Callahans. I think there were three of them. The mid-90's, the Glory Days of BC Hockey.

Best. Hit. Ever. Unfortunately he was given a penalty for that. One of the many penalties he got for "being Mike Grier."

I would say the best hit I've seen in this rivalry in recent history was Brian McConnell's textbook open ice shot on Chris Collins. Can't remember whether it was in the Beanpot or HE tourney, but I remember it was at the Garden. What I do remember is how stunned I was when Collins got up. Easily one of the hardest hits I've ever seen.

Edit: Upon doing a google search, it was the 2003 Beanpot.

Orpik had a monster hit on a BU kid who unfortunately was never quite the same after the hit. Forget his name but think he was a local HS kid.

Maybe Brian Collins? Definitely as hard a hit as I've seen including Greer's hit on Greg Callahan. BU fans probably erased that one from their memory banks as it was one of their guys who got destroyed. Don't think he got right up after that one if I recall?

How about when Sullivan laid out Gerbe? That was one too where I was shocked Gerbe bounced up so quickly.

Well, you were right on it being a local kid then. St. John's of Shrewsbury if memory serves me correctly.

I've always thought Sullivan's hit on Gerbe has been overrated. Gerbe had such a low center of gravity, that the check was up around the shoulders as opposed to the sternum. Also, it was from the side. As I recall, Gerbe bounced right up.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Up To The Task?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy Beanpot tickets for my buddy's birthday, which is in a couple weeks. I was wondering if anybody knows which sections have been sold to BU, so that I can try to find seats near there (we both would be rooting for BU).

Also, does anyone know a way to purchase tickets through the school if you are not a current student, alumni, or season ticket holder? I am none of those things, but I can only find ticket options for those demographics.

Thanks for any help anyone can give me!

Collins was a Saint John's Shrewsbury kid, my cousin played with him and he was a great player for the Pioneers.

Grier had a big hit on a UMTC kid in the 1995 Nat SF's too.
