Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Part II

Quinn and Sullivan: These are largely the only two names that are talked about on here (a few other names thrown around at times).

Quinn was here for a while... he obviously gets some credit for 2009... does he also get a share of blame for some of the other "kaka" years that he was here?

Sullivan had a great regular season with the Bruins his first year, but they fell on their face in the playoffs and was then subsequently let go when the team appeared to quit on him the next year and finished in last place.

So there are some possible red flags with each of these guys... Bavis has been thrown out a few times... but perhaps too close to the "problems" we have seen the last few years.

Any other fresh ideas? Who would be other canditates when the time comes.

What is the one mistake Michael makes?

He keeps his dad around when he has sit downs and tries to tell his guys what to do. They hem and haw and ask the Don... Who is forced to tell them that Michael is in charge.

There is a reason you either kill the old Don, or send him on his boat to Miami.

I wouldn't even allow jack a boat seat on Friends.

Cut the cord. The new man is the man. Old guy has no day in the matter, nothing.

Capisci :)
So...
Lenny has to give up his seat at Conte?
Red should have given up his seat at the Garden?
Sinden should have been forced into retirement after coaching?... well, I'll give you that one. :D

HC: Mike Bavis
Associate Head Coach: Buddy Powers
Assistant Coach: Toot Cahoon

A man can dream, can't he?

I think Bobby Valentine is available. If you've coached one sport you've coached them all right? He's even got his own holiday. Can't get any more prestigious than that.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Part II

This play reminded me of game 3 of the QF series vs NU in 2011. In that game, BU scored two late goals to bring the score to 5-4 NU. On the faceoff, it came back to Warsofsky and he hit it with a high stick, as it went back to his zone. He touched up and the faceoff was in BU's zone, with about 10 seconds left and Parker puts Millan back in the net.

Why? Outside of the obvious, NU might score (just like last night); your goalie being in the net can not help you win the game, like an extra attacker can. It's the risk you have to run. Who cares if you lose by 1 goal or 2 goals?!? You still lost. In the 2011 example, BU's season was on the line and they still did it. That's one thing that bothered me about O'Connor back in net last night and him waiting until about 5 seconds left to head to the bench (while the puck is in the neutral zone). What good is that gonna do?

I dont think very many, if any, coaches would leave the net empty with a faceoff in the defensive zone... maybe I'm wrong, but as I'm sitting here, I can't think of an example where one did that comes to mind.

First pick for head coach: Mike Sullivan

Assistants:

Chris Drury: I know he's never coached but he was the Captain of the Rangers and is there anything he hasn't been successful at?
Shawn McEachern: Is he still an assistant somewhere? I know he was at UML.

Mike Sullivan will be retired in fla by the time this job becomes available :p

Anybody catch the BU-NU post game press conference?

Sure BU is having a tough time and I think it’s clear that Parker has lost his guys. The captain, Wade Megan, is a senior who is part of a class to NEVER win a Beanpot is speaking...

He was up there at the post game press conference with Parker and was practically in tears. He apologized to the fans, students, alumni and faculty. Classy kid.

I was even getting a little choked up for him. Then I looked at Parker. He’s just sitting there bored. Does he put his arm around his guy? No. He just flips through papers nervously.

Sad.

I really didn't get that vibe at all. Parker said he felt very badly for his captain and commented on what a great player he is or something to that effect.

I have no idea if Parker has lost his guys or not, but I don't think there was anything in the press conference that would tell us that.

Generally speaking I apply the Tom Hanks "there's no crying" routine to all sports (as it should be), but I felt for this kid when I read in every paper that he was practically crying out there in front of everyone ... good hockey player too.

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Part II

We're supposed to get our first big snow storm Friday night (over a foot), so Friday night's crowd should be good "practice" for what the Garden will be like for the consolation game Monday night.

And in your best Allen Iverson voice:

"Your talking about press conference body language!? Not in game coaching decisions mind you, but press conference body language. A press conference. Not poor game coaching or that the team wasn't up for the game, but a press conference. " :)

BU Hockey: Stop Sucking

Re: Boston University 2012-13 Season Thread -- Part II

What Are the odds that Friday gets postponed? They have done it before.

I posted something similar in the BC thread.

If reports of over a foot of snow, blizzard winds, and impassable roads right during when people would be getting to the game are true, I would say Quite Good.

I like when players show emotion and that it bothers them when they lose. Let's me, as a huge fan and alum, know that he cares. I hesitate to bring this up, but I really enjoyed Tim Tebow's speech after they lost to Ole Miss.
