Boston University 2011 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Anybody else notice Jackie Pa sitting with the Clendening and Nieto families and congratulating both boys after their selection at the NHL draft? Is it usual for a college ( or junior ) coach to accompany likely first-or-high round draft choices to the draft? Protecting his investment or does he have a new career as an agent? Didn"t see Dave Hakstol or Enrico Blasi there ( but I wasn't looking.) BTW, commentators said NYRangers plan to make a hard push for their first round pick JT Miller to sign and forego commitment to No Dakota. If so, I can't believe they won't bring all sorts of pressure to bear on Chris Kreider, too.

Read Larry Brooks, the Hockey guy in the NY Post. He has been saying that have, and are kinda of annoyed he keeps turning them down.

I wonder if Kreider is trying to do a Blake Wheeler? Not sign, so he can be a FA instead. Probably can get a better contract.

Some coaches do, some don't. From what I understand, this was the first time Parker's attended the draft in a long time, maybe ever. I'm guessing it's because he had two current players expected to go high and two more expected to go in the later rounds (obviously Gill ended up not getting drafted). Rarely, if ever, does BU have that many current players expected to be drafted. Usually it's incoming freshmen, and Parker can't really be there with them until all the paperwork's official, which is usually later in the summer.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Good for Jack being there. He gets two Bomber points for that move. :)

Adam and Matt did a nice job in their interviews. Said all the right things and did the old University proud. And Adam has a chance to were the best uni in sports and play in one of the best buildings in sports. Lucky boy. I wonder if kennedy was behind this draft pick? ;)

Okay boys, back to Boston and back to work. Time to get the BU train back to the FF.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I just read in the Boston Globe that College Hockey Inc. urged coaches to be at the draft this year.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Screw the rangers. If they don't like players going to college, there's a simple solution...don't draft them.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I should say going the college route and wanting to play three years, etc.

You would think having guys like Drury, Gilroy, Boyle, McDonagh and Stepan would show them how viable the college route is.

Rangers have been all over Kreider this year according to York despite Kreider constantly reaffirming he's staying to get his degree (which he will after his jr. year)

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

however they want to do it, i'm all for BC-BU playing in basketball.................and Harvard too (still):(

According to Lynch at the Joe Jones' introductory press conference today, BU is playing BC this year in hoops. Don't know where,when..etc but Lynch said it was already on the schedule.

In case you haven't noticed, the Rangers are an excellent example of how not to run an organization. They are messing this up just as they do with so many other things. As a BU and Rangers fan, I have two good reasons to want Kreider to sign now. But it seems that he has made it clear all along that he is going back to college so the Rangers need to leave him alone.

Cool to hear. You can be sure it will be at BC and not at BU. If they are smart with the schedule, and they want to get some BU fans to make the trip down Comm Ave, it won't be the same night as a home BU hockey game(the way it has been a couple of prior times we have played there).

I'm hoping for the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.... something to replace the hockey tradition that seems to be gone.

I believe it was mentioned today that BU has only played BC twice. I was at the last one, in 2004 at BC, and there wasn't a home hockey game that night. It was also the last time we played them when Al Skinner was the coach, because we shot over 50% and almost beat them despite good games from Craig Smith, Sean Marshall and Jared Dudley. Scared Skinner off and that was the last of the series. Until now, I guess, with new coaches at BU and BC.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Why, exactly, don't NCAA teams schedule exhibitions with CHL teams? (I may have raised this issue in the past, but I can't remember.)

It can't be the age difference as the similarly aged USA U-18s play D-I college teams. (Why don't the U-18s play CHL teams?) Maybe it is: most CHL teams have at least a couple 16 year-olds. Is there a significant disparity in talent level or physicality that would make the games unfair or unsafe? Is it that CHL teams are not considered amateur by the NCAA so they can't schedule CHL exhibitions as a rule? Obviously there would be no direct recruiting benefits from those games, or any other benefits besides bragging rights. That's probably the answer: Who cares? But as a fan who appreciates the CHL/NCAA recruiting battles I'd like to see that rivalry manifest itself in something other than an internet blurb about a 14 year-old who twitted on facespace that he's going major junior. I dunno I think it'd be cool to watch.

i know that conventional wisdom says there's nothing to be gained by BC but i'm all for it................... i think the area schools (read Beanpot schools) should play each other in hoops
