Boston University 2011 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I think 2 games at BC for every 1 game at BU could work. Agganis might actually fill up for that game. Plus, BC's probably looking for another local team to play now that they've had just about enough of Harvard.

That's the point, they don't want another "Harvard" situation, especially with a VERY VERY young team for them this year. I think they had something like 10 seniors last season. Losing to BU looks very bad for them locally, and would **** off their fanbase and donors to no end. They could just as easily schedule Squirrel Gap Community College as a November/December cupcake game, get a win, and it'd be no more or less significant than a win over BU, plus attendance would likely be similar. The chances of BU defeating them are still fairly slim, but it's still not really a guaranteed win for them, especially considering their performance against Harvard and other supposed guarantee games in recent years.

I don't mean to belittle BU (hell, you guys have made the tourney more recently than we have) but I really don't think BC would do a 2/3/4 for 1. When was the last time BC played in Boston on the road? Just the reality of college basketball

No doubt... BC has no reason to come to play at BU. (Neither does basically any other major conference team). It's a miracle Michigan came here a few years ago... other than that the "big" OOC home games are pretty much A10 teams.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

That is a strange picture. I don't get it. Do they live there and put on their "southie" garb for the occasion?

BU just hired a BC guy as head basketball coach. Back in my day, this would have never been allowed to happen. :)

Joe Jones spent 7 years at Columbia, turning them from ridiculously bad to ok by Ivy standards...sounds like he is a great guy, spent a few years with Jay Wright at Hofstra and 'Nova. A lot of times you see the head coach from the 'old' school throw a bone to the guy in his new HC role and sign them up for an early season game. Not sure if we'll see that from BC because Jones didn't have a long stint with BC or their new coach.

That he is well regarded in the community, a great recruiter, spent 7 years balancing bball and academics at an ivy and decided to leave BC after 1 year all point to him being a man of high character.

however they want to do it, i'm all for BC-BU playing in basketball.................and Harvard too (still):(

So... Coyle's rights moved in Brent Burns trade to Minnesota. Wonder what their plan is going to be moving forward.

likely a better opportunity to crack the lineup a bit sooner than in SJ. He still needs to amp it up quite a bit to show he can play @ that level or it won't matter who has his rights. Expect good things this year.BTw...hope all are having a good summer.looking forward to October

Wild need scoring in the show and in the A, I would not be surprised to see Coyle pulled out before the season, especially if he has a good prospect camp. To all the nay sayers, he very well might be gone, that's why Minny traded for him. They are building a young team now, not 2-3 years from now.

We're working on getting in touch with Coyle for a story within the next couple days. Just purely from the outside, it looks like it could be easier for Coyle to crack the lineup in Minnesota than in San Jose. The Wild certainly has more incentive than the Sharks to push him to leave. In conversations with Coyle before the end of the season, he had no immediate plans to leave BU and was highly focused on having a stronger 2011-12 season. He was also hoping for a quiet summer. Oh well.

Not sure why that would be a "to all the nay sayers". It actually is a negative if SJ let him go for that. My understanding was they didnt like what they saw at BU last year, especially the last 3 months. Would be easier to play there vs SJ but it is not a positive. By no means are they looking at him today as ready to come and be the solution to their lack of scoring, which has been the case since the day the franchise was founded and will be so for the near future. Wild did not do it for scoring this year or next at AHL or NHL level

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I am surprised they both went that high, but they're obviously still highly rated prospects. Will be interesting to see how they develop.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Just checked up on draft action on the NHL website and it says that Noonan was selected in the 4th rd by Nashville? Was it a mistake and they actually meant to say Gill? Don't think I heard any news of Noonan possibly being drafted up until now...

No, definitely Noonan. There was talk that both Noonan and Gill would be late-round selections. Noonan went a round or two ahead of where I expected, but it's not a huge surprise he went there.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

According to Nashville's Paul Fenton, Jeff Kealty--another CM d-man who played for BU--pitched hard for the Preds to take Noonan.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

All right then, two 2nd Round Choices and a 4th. These guys can't have weak attitudes and be regarded as soft to be taken that high. Plenty of talent, no excuses this year, right Jack?
