Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

I'm not sure if he has any coaching aspirations, but Grier is a "BU guy" if there ever was one. Good luck to him, one of my favorite all-time Terriers.

He might get penalties for clean hits just by being on the bench!

If he goes into coaching, he'd be following in his father's footsteps. Grier, Gilroy and Schaeffer all had dads who were standouts in sports other than hockey.

Posted this on the alumni thread, but worth repeating here.

ESPN's Darren Pang tweeted:
Panger40 Darren R Pang
by BUAthletics
Congrats to Mike Grier on terrific career. Treated people with respect. Played honest game. I did #Beanpot on E2when he had "the hit"

And here's the hit on BC's Joe Callahan in the '95 Beanpot Final

Rogie - awesome selection of links of GWG celebrations on the blog. Just watched the Drury goal in OT at the regional final over Denver that send the Terriers to Milwaukee. That was his 37th goal???????? Of the season???? 37. Goals in one season. Did I hear that right??? *sigh*

Also, for any of you BU folks that dues paying members of the FOH - did you receive the calendar in the mail this week? Please let me know. And what you thought of it. Since it was my baby. :)

He finished with 38. Only Garrity (51) and Marquis (41) surpass him in the BU record book.

Great call by Bernie, too. "A few good men are going to Milwaukee."

Best. hit. ever.

It would be great if he were at Agganis on Saturday. Sounds like he may be free. :)

Scott Shaughnessy's hit that put BC's Bob Sweeney through the glass seconds into the start of a Beanpot final may have been ever better.
The Beanpot Shuffle? Right at yah!

I am an ignoramus when it comes to Twitter. So someone please help me out here:

- # is referred to as "hashtag" now, is that right? And why not "pound" as it has been int he past.
- why does Pang's tweet have "#Beanpot" instead of just "Beanpot". Does the # go in automatically to signify that there is some sort of twitter feed with Beanpot in the name (sort of like an automatic link that appears).

Just trying to keep up with all you young whipper-snappers.

The pound sign (#) is the hashtag. He made Beanpot a hashtag when he put the pound sign in front of it. You can click on that in the tweet and it will bring up all posts that mention the Beanpot.

Scarlet, the BU calendar is fantastic! It was certainly a pleasant surprise to get it in the mail. I would love to see something like this every year, if that's possible.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

I thought the game just concluded against BC was one of the ugliest wins in recent memory. Badly outshot and outplayed and taking way too many penalties, the Terriers nevertheless never trailed and beat the BC Eagles for the second time at Conte Forum 5-3. Kieran Millan was huge with 42 saves.

Tomorrow night could be ugly with a different outcome if we play undisciplined and take as many penalties as we did this evening.

Glad to see Cason Hohmann and Yassin Cisse get their first career goals. May there be many more!

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

Certainly bears mentioning here that Mike Grier retired today after what I believe was a 14-year career. Terrier faithful have a lot to be proud of in this guy.

Mike Grier had the softest hands ever to play on ice. He made the game look so easy and no one took him on, no one! Grier and O'Callahan are the only BU players I have selected to hang up in my memorabilia room. Simply the best.

Jay Pandolfo 38 as well

Oh good - glad you liked it! Apologies for the lateness but we were at proof stage and I noticed we left off the Nov 11 Merrimack game. In hindsight, I probably should have left it off. Heh. The plan is to do something like this every year. And if anyone on the message board here posted this on the live blog tonight:

Comment From Rut
Before the game ends I just want to say how awesome the wall calendar that Friends of BU Hockey just sent out is

Thanks for that and glad you liked it. :)

I didn't hate the way the team played last night, just the result. They skated well, controlled play for the most part, and had a decent PP. Millan looked tired and the D gave up too many counter attack opportunities, but it happens.

The only horrendous goal was the one scored when Millan gave up that soft rebound.

Hopefully they learn from this and move on. 2/3 ain't bad!

I tend to agree. While the scoreboard was terrible, it didn't feel as bad as the score would indicate. We had some good opportunities but also a few breakdowns. Ultimatley the biggest problem was not being able to solve Billett....it happens, move on.

Will be looking forward to seeing how the team responds on Thursday. Big game.

Agree with everything. I almost feel like this game was a blessing in disguise. If we had taken 3 out of 3 from them and had to play them again in an even more important game (i.e. beanpot, he champ or ncaas) down the road, with the way these guys have been mentally, complacency could have set in and we could've had an even worst beatdown. Basically, I'd rather lose to them 6-1 now than in an important game later. Brings the team back down to earth a little as I'm sure that beating at home couldn't have felt good.

Hope everyone is motivated to bounce back and close the first half with two wins.

Also, Cono really can't buy a goal right now! Feel bad for him but he really needs to find a way get it going. Senior captain with no goals? Eh.....

Insert Millan for Billett and it's what i thought about BC after friday's game, strange 3 games to say the least

Agree 100%. I went into this weekend expecting a split, so I'm not too disappointed with the outcome. Just glad that we found a way to get 2 points on Friday.
