Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

Thanks, Scarlet, for saving me from having to shamelessly plug the birthday article. :D

While researching the article, I learned from CDRAL that during the final preparations of WBA's initial ice surface “…members of both the varsity and freshman squads would assist in painting the lines as well.”

Can anyone imagine today’s athletes being asked to give up their time to paint the lines?

You were saying? There is also another video somewhere that had a couple players from a team help paint the ice as well. Do not know where it is.

I think if the option was given to players, some would definitely be willing to paint the ice. But imagine if you're at a job that is important to you and then you have a bunch of guys who have no idea what they are doing try to do your job. It's impractical and can waste a lot of time so it is probably why they do not give that option to players too often.

At the division 3 school where I did my undergrad this was (and probably still is) standard.

Hmm, they seem to be way out of order. Highlights start with 2 min left in the first and then it goes backwards in time... Same thing for 2nd and 3rd periods.

Still, great to see that, thanks!

Maybe it was uploaded by a soccer fan?

The interesting irony with the non-goal off of Millan is that he did exactly what a goalie is supposed to do in that situation. He backed into the net since he didn't know where the puck was. Somehow, it still found the little bit of his back that was still exposed.

Hey, the grounds crew can mess it up, too.

Certainly bears mentioning here that Mike Grier retired today after what I believe was a 14-year career. Terrier faithful have a lot to be proud of in this guy.

I'm not sure if he has any coaching aspirations, but Grier is a "BU guy" if there ever was one. Good luck to him, one of my favorite all-time Terriers.
