Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

Give me a break Harry. You blame the goalie. I blame the d-men and the fact that most of those shots by BC were either off the post and i or right on the corner. BU had puck luck Friday and BC had it Saturday. Those were hardly soft goals. I looked at the score board after 2 and thought we played as well as we have played all year through 2. I agree Millan was probably tired, but the idea that Rollie would have done better is 20-20 hindsight. Name one game in 4 years where Rollie was the difference.

Who are you having this discussion with? I never mentioned Rollheiser in that post.

Yeh, the D wasn't great. But those were soft goals in the second period. Had Millan played well, BC would have gone into the third period with a 2-1 lead and it would have still been anyone's game.
Ask Millan, or Geragoshian, if Millan had a reasonable second period or not.

Parker did say that Millan was not himself Saturday night which I think is his way of saying that he didn't play well without throwing him under the bus entirely

As a returning player, Coyle is pretty much a lock. Will be interesting to see if Clendening makes it. Didn't think he deserved it last year and he was left off in the end. My guess is he probably makes it this time around.

If he does it's an indication of just how few elite D men are playing the game with U.S. birth certificates. Nieto deserves a close look.

Parker must be ill if he's not blasting his player to the media.

Unfortunately it appears Nieto isn't getting any other looks...

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

The only possible explanation for Nieto not getting an invite is that he hasn't had good junior camps in the past. He didn't look good at last December's and wound up getting cut. He didn't look good at this summer's evaluation camp and actually got cut from that even though he made it further than that last year. Still, it just seems crazy not to reconsider him given his great start. If he has another bad camp, fine, cut him. But he's looked better this season than some of the forwards on that roster. Thought he at least deserved a shot.

As for Clendening, him making it might depend on what happens with Faulk and Merrill. Faulk's playing in the NHL and Merrill hasn't played a game yet this season. If the Canes don't let Faulk play and/or Merrill isn't in game-ready shape by then, Clendening might make it simply because they'll need an offensive defenseman like him. If both of those guys are on the team, though, that makes Clendening more expendable and more likely to be cut if he doesn't start playing better.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

Hard for me to say he's looked better/worse than others on the roster considering I haven't seen many play...which guys would you rate him above?

Sounds like the weakness of the team will be on defense. I believe Jack Campbell is back for a 3rd year though in net.

Interestingly, there are no ’93 Ds on the roster and two ‘94s. Seth Jones will probably make the squad based on his talent and having some continuity next year. Jacob Trouba is the other ’94. He and Grzelcyk are tied for 2nd in D-man scoring on the U18s behind Jones.

Good analysis by Chris Peters of United States of Hockey.

Update--another Peters analysis focusing on Ds. Clendening's puck-moving skills and int'l experience should help him land a spot.

Obviously I haven't seen them all either, but just based on what I've read, Josh Archibald, Austin Czarnik and Shane Prince were all a bit of surprise picks. I think Nieto is probably a little bit more of a complete player than Gaudreau right now, too. And Nieto certainly wasn't the only surprise cut either- Jared Knight and Stefan Noesen were both expected to get an invite, too.

Defense is only a weakness if Faulk and Merrill aren't there. But a top six of Faulk, Merrill, Forbort, Tinordi, Jones and Clendening/Johns/Levi would be pretty darn good.

This was the thought last year as well. Haven't seen as much of him this year as I did last year though.

Apparently Knight hasn't performed well in the camps, but some believe politics are involved with him. I have no idea. I'm sure hokydad does. Ya, Gaudreau has been pretty good, but I don't expect him to make it until next year. I do think Arnold makes it.

EDIT: although the guy Rogie found said Knight played well at the Lake Placid camp. As for Archibald, he plays for Blais.

Also, you have to believe Carolina will not release Faulk for this.

...and Czarnik has similar production to Nieto.

Matthew Barnaby got himself fired at ESPN, so they're going to need a new former player to give the analysis side of things.

They need Mike Grier! Scarlet, can you make some calls? :D

Wait....hockey commentary and analysis on ESPN??? Surely you jest! I know I have certain powers but that ain't one of them. :)

At one point during the NBA lockout, they were actually talking about the games that would have been played on that particular day...

If Arnold's not a lock, he's very close to it. I'd be shocked if he doesn't make it. As for all the bubble guys, I'm definitely nitpicking. The forwards are going to be very strong, arguably the best in the field, no matter who they take from this group.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

Just saw on Twitter that Thursday's game will be on WBIN. That's the Manchester station. I need to see if I get that. I think I do.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012 Season Thread Part Deux

I get that channel through Comcast on the South Shore! Thank you for pointing that out Scarlet! Though it does say "Boston College at New Hampshire" on the channel guide. Saves me from buying the stream of the game.

Edit: If you're on the South Shore (Comcast Plymouth - I'm in Abington.) it's channel 25, or 703 (HD), though I doubt they will use HD cameras.
