Ugh, both Saponaris gone?

Nice kids off the ice and a nice set of parents.

Wonder what the heck happened.

:(

Victor is no loss, but losing a first line player in Vinny, ugh.

Well now we have a full scholarship left over, hello Ryan Walter?

so when can we expect this story to be posted on nesn? since the wildly inaccurate version of the BC traffic accident was posted within minutes.

I do feel bad for their parents. That's a real kick in the gut to have BOTH sons kicked off.

I'll beat Nick to the punch: "You gotta be relevant first."

FL, any chance the team takes either of them back? I know guys have been kicked off teams before but showed their remorse and got to come back.

(Not BU, but other schools.)

Wow. Rough news.

Is there any concern Trivino doesn't come back with the suspension? After all, he was drafted by NYI if I'm not mistaken. And with their close watch on college prospects (Okposo), might they try to get him somewhere else for next season? Can he practice during the suspension? If not, that's a lot of lost ice time to start a season if a few games... which means a few weeks of practice.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

As I have mentioned in the past JP is inconsistent with his players. Certain players get away with a lot, others don't. That sends the wrong message to the players, creates low morale and ultimately, an under performing team. It was well known that 27 was partying constantly all season long, didn't work hard at practice and yet, played a ridiculous amount of minutes. This, at the detriment of developing other players. Treating all players, stars or average players, the same, is the only way to have a winning formula.

I wouldn't know much about 27's habits this season, but I do agree with your larger point that certain players get away with a lot, others don't. But I suspect that's true with most teams and for most coaches. That doesn't make it right, but it is what it is. Of course that raises the possibility that the coach might "lose" the team, and some have suggested that over the past number of years that some of Parker's teams have shown these signs. Being accountable to the team and your teammates is of paramount importance, particularly in a sport like hockey where success requires a level of passion that few other sports can match (IMHO). Parker mentioned in his year-end review that he stuck with some players too long this year when they weren't bringing a consistent, passionate and professional effort to every practice, every game and every opportunity to represent Boston University, and if he had it to do it over again he would sit a few more guys down to send a message. Of course, he's said that before. And I suspect this was communicated to this year's group of players on more than one occasion. Sadly, a couple of players didn't get the message. But if his response to this recent episode is an example that things may be changing, we should all be for it.

This sounds really sketchy though, how did the coaches find out?

Who was the inside man?

I am sure he will end up in OHL and hopefully can turn it around.

Isn't he close to the maximum age? I remember reading once that 20 year olds were only eligible in the OHL if they'd played the previous season.

Spoke to Vinny about half an hour ago, just sent in my story to be posted on the DFP website: www.dailyfreepress.com.

It should be there soon, and when it is, I'll also post it on the blog (link in signature).

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he's very PC about it

"Mutual parting of ways, etc"

Pretty sure you are correct. he is a 90 thus would be an over aged player next year...

Here it is. I had a feeling his reaction would be more shock than the PC reaction JD expected.

Stories are up. Saponari was 'shocked' by the move and felt he was made an example of.

Plenty more in the story, including details on "Party like a puckstar" and what Saponari's infractions were -- almost 900 words worth. Link in my signature.
