Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

The mass exodus at BU continues. Too bad, but I think BU is doing the right thing kicking Saponari out. I'm guessing he must have done something pretty bad to get dismissed.

I don't believe it was a single incident as much as it was a series of incidents throughout the season where team rules were violated, or other behavior that reflected poorly on the program and the university that led to the dismissals.

“Over a period of time, there have been cumulative instances in which Victor and Vinny Saponari have displayed conduct unbecoming of a Boston University hockey player,” said Parker.

You may be onto something there... :-)

Edit: (Bad joke that was here has been deleted)

Its not really funny and worth making jokes over.

The kid had many chances and it is a shame that between here and the us natl team, someone didnt put the hammer down on him.

Simply shows that if you can score, they look the other way. US natl program is toxic

I am sure he will end up in OHL and hopefully can turn it around.

Bright side, I think we're about to see Vinny Saponari's rap career take off. Anybody have good suggestions for a rap name? Sap the Vincredible? Vinny-Cent? Vee-Z?

How about Vinny No-Hands?

On to the practical side of the matter; with a scholarship open, will a recruit intended for a future season be moved up to the upcoming season?

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

I don't understand what this has to do with Vinny's situation;)

As I have mentioned in the past JP is inconsistent with his players. Certain players get away with a lot, others don't. That sends the wrong message to the players, creates low morale and ultimately, an under performing team. It was well known that 27 was partying constantly all season long, didn't work hard at practice and yet, played a ridiculous amount of minutes. This, at the detriment of developing other players. Treating all players, stars or average players, the same, is the only way to have a winning formula.

Neither I nor any of my sources, including one with the team, are aware of any plans to fill the spot right now. That could obviously change -- another player could be brought in*-- but it's also possible the scholarship could be split between existing players.

Were there any rumors of this stuff during the season? Figured something would have come out. For example, I don't believe Vinny Saponari was suspended at all during the season...what could he possibly have been doing wrong if he never even got suspended for anything? Sounds to me like it was more based off the latest incident than anything else.

Its not really funny and worth making jokes over.

Hokydad, what was their beverage of choice?

I was wondering the same thing. Two names come to mind. One is NTDP fwd Chase Balisy. Not great numbers for the season, but reportedly played quite well in the Worlds.

Another is Ryan Walters, who decommitted from Minny last month. 21-40-61 at Des Moines where he was a teammate of Cisse's--for two months.

I guess this sorta answers my question, but still curious why if it was well known, nothing was done during the season...

:D :D :D

Well done.

Regarding this action, good for Parker. 'bout time he starts kicking lazy players in the arse or off the team. If Saponari blows as many wide open chances in the minors as he did in hockey, he can expect regular beatings....by his own teammates. I have to think a bit more concentration and hard work could have turned more of those chances into desperately needed goals. Good riddance is my take on this. He had talent, but for some reason just couldn't get it together.

As to why these two were singled out, even if the rest of the team was engaged in both 1) boozing, and 2) slacking off in practice/during games, it could be that they were ringleaders or something, but that's pure speculation on my part. Frankly I don't think the team's too worse off with those two not around and Trivino benched for awhile.

A defenseman would be nice.... any more decent ones lurking around uncommitted?

So, to start out the season, there are 3 skaters left of the 08-09 regulars by my count... Warsofsky, Pereira, Connolly.

After the hangover that they had much of this season, roster turnover is a good thing.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Also, what was with the initial report yesterday? Wrong info or did things change overnight?

Seeing as I wrote that initial article, I should explain. In short, a little of both.

My sources indicated the March 17 drinking incident, which no one has denied happened, was the primary reason for the punishments, with other incidents that were discovered afterward adding onto it. From what I was told, the coaches were not aware of any of the incidents until after the season, hence why none of these guys were suspended during the season. 3hock's last post makes it sound like the March 17 incident was completely separate of all this stuff. That's not true from I've been told. It at least played a role in all this, and was still possibly the biggest factor.

As for Vinny being released rather than suspended, that shocked me as much as anyone when the press release came out. Neither 3hock nor any of my sources mentioned that as a possibility. As BU Hammer mentioned, the parties involved were not officially informed of these decisions until this morning, and I have very good reason to believe that as of last night, Vinny did not know he was going to be kicked off the team.

Definitely not. Hopefully this will teach some of the underclassmen to check their egos at the door.
