Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Help me here, isn't one of the key factors related to giving of gifts to athletes related to whether the giver is a college booster....a supporter that may be giving a gift/inducement to an athlete to induce that player to attend a specific school?

I don't know what Hokydad is but it doesn't sound like he necessarily qualifies as a BU booster....maybe Providence or maybe no school. If he's not a booster the gift he gives is not illegal. Is that correct or am I missing something?

FL, I didn't check my spelling so please feel free to do so.

For potential student athletes, you have to be a booster. But the NCAA defines "booster" a lot more broadly than the way we commonly use the word - we'd think of members of Friends of BU Hockey to be boosters. But according to the NCAA, if you are a season ticket holder, you are a booster. You're a booster if you attend games regularly, have a place of business in the area and (legally) employ athletes, even agents are boosters. Basically, anyone with a beneficial interest in seeing you attend the school. They define this word in this manner so that pretty much anyone who would give a gift to a student athlete is covered.

In the name of everything that is decent and good in this world, please stop this.

Yeah, I appreciate the sentiment and enjoyed your factual posts on the topic also, and everyone can see that your smarter than hoky. Eventually we'll just stop responding to his idiocy on the topic and he'll tire himself out.
as long as we're posting funny nonsense...

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

I approve of this thread.

Hokydad, you are an A+ moron. Question: did you get 'mutual friends' to look up his dorm address on Facebook so you can hand-deliver the jersey? LOL

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

None of them were given the gold medal game jerseys. They had to log on and buy last night if they wanted it.

If this is true, that's absolutely ridiculous.

Item Description:

The 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship saw the United States strike gold.

And we’ve got the actual set of gold medal-winning jerseys worn by the U.S. National Junior Team in the gold-medal winning game!!!

On January 5, 2010, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the United States National Junior Team captured the gold medal in the IIHF World U20 Championship by defeating Canada in overtime, 6-5. The 2010 team is just the second U.S. squad to win gold in the event, joining the 2004 U.S. team.

Now, for the first time ever, USA Hockey and the MeiGray Group, “The Official Game-Worn Source of USA Hockey” have teamed up so that fans across the globe can share in Team USA’s great success by acquiring authenticated, game-worn jerseys from USA Hockey’s National Junior Team.

Proceeds will benefit the USA Hockey Foundation.

The USA Hockey-MeiGray Group Game-Worn Authentication Program is proud to offer fans and collectors across the globe the opportunity to own a piece of history … the actual white jersey worn by 20 players in the gold medal-winning 6-5 overtime victory over Canada in the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship.

This auction is for the actual white jersey worn by #29, Jerry D'Amigo. D'Amigo, a Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick, had a goal and an assist in the game. Jerry D'Amigo signed the jersey immediately after the gold medal-winning game.

This jersey, a Size 60, has been registered in the USA Hockey-MeiGray Game-Worn Authentication Program.

One set of 22 white jerseys and one set of 22 blue jerseys was manufactured by Nike and prepared for use by the U.S. National Junior Team in the 2010 IIHF World U20 Championship. Each jersey was barcoded before the tournament. The set of jerseys was collected after each game by Team USA’s equipment staff. Each jersey offered in auction will be security-tagged with an individually serial-numbered USA Hockey-MeiGray Authentication Program inventory tag.

The U.S. National Junior Team wore this set of white jerseys in two games: The 7-3 tournament-opening victory over Slovakia on Dec. 26, 2009; and the gold medal-winning 6-5 overtime triumph over Canada.

The U.S. National Junior Team wore its set of blue jerseys, which was awarded to the players for their participation by USA Hockey, in 5 games: The 3-0 victory over Switzerland on Dec. 27, 2009; the 12-1 victory over Latvia on Dec. 29, 2009; the 5-4 shootout loss to Canada on Dec. 31, 2009; the 6-2 quarterfinal-round victory over Finland on Jan. 2, 2010; and the 5-2 semifinal- round victory over Sweden on Jan. 3, 2010.

Here is the set of U.S. World Junior Team jerseys available from USA Hockey-MeiGray from the 2010 World Junior Championship:

· 22 white jerseys worn and/or issued to the members of the gold medal-winning U.S. World Junior Team. The white jerseys worn by Jack Campbell and Cam Fowler have been retained for the Colorado Springs, Colo., archives of USA Hockey.

The USA Hockey-MeiGray Game-Worn Authentication Program offers game-used and autographed items from the Men’s and Women’s U.S. Olympic Teams, Men’s and Women’s U.S. World Championship Teams, U.S. teams that have competed in the World Junior Championships, and much, much more.

The USA Hockey Foundation is a charitable and educational nonprofit corporation that provides long-range financial support for USA Hockey and promotes the growth of hockey in the United States.

The Foundation's primary goals are to enhance USA Hockey's mission and activities; to provide funding for education and training of high performance athletes; and to provide opportunities for greater participation throughout the country.

The act that resulted in the suspensions will likely result in longer suspensions than the baby tiger incident did, unless the players really go above and beyond to make up for it this summer; however, the 3rd suspension will/would not be nearly as significant in the lineup as the loss of the puckstars.

Is there going to be a forthcoming article about this?

Any idea of who is getting suspended?

No offense to the player, but really don't worry about the team being without him for a bit. I guess just sit tight if FL is on it, although I have to say I'm kind of surprised he is so close to an article since IIRC nothing ever came out in the media detailing what happened with McGuirk and Co in 07-08.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

I recall there being items in local north shore papers where one of the fathers was quoted talking about the incident.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

All I've got to say is that I'm glad that Parker is doing something about this. It will be interesting to see what the offense will be like while the two puckstars are suspended.

Interesting might not be the right word... last year the team lost one of the two and went from 9-3 in their previous 12 to 5-5 in their next 10 (and the quality of opponents were worse after the injury). But hey, I said this team would be deeper at the back end of forwards than in 08-09, I guess this is one way to test it .

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

FWIW, I have reason to believe that the plan before all this was for Trivino and Saponari to be on the top line. Will be interesting to see if that's still the plan or if they're going to be split up.
