Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

i havent seen this posted anywhere, but team usa is auctioning off the U-20 jersies. the auction ends in 2 days.

here is the link to warsofsky

http://auction.nhl.com/cgi-bin/ncom...br=117117421&prmenbr=12717464&aunbr=117464131

i put in a few bids just to see what would happen, and each time it automatically raised the bid using a previous bidder's name and even time stamp. so that seems a little fishy to me.

as much as i would love this jersey, i dont have the funding to test the system any further.

they won't charge you your max bid, only the increment above the next highest. like ebay.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Per the PC schedule, BU will host PC on Sat. 10/23 and Fri. 2/18 and travel to PC on Sat. 2/19. Glad to see we won't be making any Fri. drives to Providence after having to make two this year. No Fri. drives to UNH either. Not too shabby so far.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Good guess boys, but wrong. We all know Eric Gryba has no good friends, fans or supporters at BU!!! Feel free to think what you like, but there are a lot of us who liked the way this dude played, day in and day out, not you fair-weather supporters who have nothing better to do than rag on teen age boys and young men who make a few mistakes. These guys bust their *** for the one of the best programs in Hockey East and want to win as much as anyone. There isn't a player in the NCAA that is just happy to be there! Fact is they are winners, just not in the way that is important to many of the posters.

Actually, most of us liked Gryba a lot. He was definitely a fan favorite, at least for the past two seasons.

And honestly, I don't think you could call most of the consistent posters on this board "fair-weather fans". Sure, everyone discusses what could be better about the program, but it is a message board, that's what the purpose is.

Your perceptions about a lot of these issues seem to be self-created.

Let's go all Nick P and dissect this post one piece at a time.

Good guess boys, but wrong. We all know Eric Gryba has no good friends, fans or supporters at BU!!!

I have no idea what you're even trying to say here.

Feel free to think what you like, but there are a lot of us who liked the way this dude played, day in and day out,

No one's gonna argue with this.

not you fair-weather supporters who have nothing better to do than rag on teen age boys and young men who make a few mistakes.

Calling anyone who posts here, or even knows about this site for that matter, "fair-weather" is laughable. Everyone here is a huge fan, either of BU specifically, college hockey in general or both.

These guys bust their *** for the one of the best programs in Hockey East and want to win as much as anyone. There isn't a player in the NCAA that is just happy to be there! Fact is they are winners, just not in the way that is important to many of the posters.

Sorry to burst your hero worship bubble, but if you think every college hockey player at BU (or any other school) is here solely because they want to help the school, and if you think all of them care more about the team than themselves, then you're just naive. Sure, there are a lot of players who are like that, but there are also a lot of players who are only here because it's a stepping stone to the NHL. Some players are simply more concerned with their personal development than helping the school win. Again, not all, but some. You might think that's wrong and you might not want to believe it, but it's true.

Dude, Eric Gryba was the favorite of the student section the last two years.

Rover might not have liked him but just about everyone else on the board loved him. Yeah he took some stupid penalties but he worked his *** off and 10% of his penalties were just for being taller than the guy he hit! He got those penalties trying his heart out, not because he was lazy.

He never gave up and was fun as hell to watch. Going into a corner you could see the fear in the eyes of the opposition when he was on the ice. Put punishing legal checks on guys all over the ice.

There are a lot of guys who are great team players who work their butts off for the team and there are guys out there who think about the name on the back.

Channeling Fed League, channeling Nick P
We all know Eric Gryba has no good friends

That's not a nice thing to say about a hardworking and friendly kid like Eric;)

Feel free to think what you like, but there are a lot of us who liked the way this dude played, day in and day out,

Yes, most of the posters here and most of the fans in the rink...

not you fair-weather supporters who have nothing better to do than rag on teen age boys and young men who make a few mistakes.

Yeah, people who waste their lives talking about hockey online, even in the offseason after a year they were one game above .500 are such jerks, I can't stand their lack of loyalty either.

These guys bust their *** for the one of the best programs in Hockey East and want to win as much as anyone.

Sometimes they do play like they know they're one of the best programs and don't have to play their best to be a lesser named team IMO. And I want a team that wants to win MORE than anyone else.

There isn't a player in the NCAA that is just happy to be there!

Some, not most, kids just love being a part of the team, and their is nothing wrong with that, a third string goalie who embraces his role as such and has the best 4 years of his life is not a bad thing, and a third string goalie who causes drama because of his lack of playing time actually could be a bad thing.

Fact is they are winners, just not in the way that is important to many of the posters.

Well if they're not happy to just be there, then if they're not winning wouldn't they not be winners in the way that's important to them either?

Also that line completely reminded me of:

Actually, that line reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where they are watching the NY Marathon at some woman's apartment. As the runners go by, the hostess suddenly cries out, "You're all winners!!!"

if anything, anyone who you are talking to on this fan forum is so obsessed with BU hockey or college hockey in general that they seek other avenues to feed their craving beyond just going to games.

After Howard allowed a goal to Vernon Fiddler off the faceoff -- "I just misplayed that," he said -- the crowd started a mock chant of "Howard!"

Howard responded by not allowing another shot to get past him.

"I got that all throughout college (at Maine), whatever building I went into, and it's a lot worse," Howard said. "You should try to be an opposing goalie at Boston University, they're ruthless there. So I heard a lot of stuff thrown at me. I just get excited."

FWIW, he never played at Agganis. Have to wonder if opposing goalies still place BU at or near the top of the list of toughest places to play. I'd have to imagine Alfond and Matthews are the most intimidating because the students are right on top of you instead of behind glass. Agganis would probably third in HE from what I've seen.

I mean, if you want to talk about pure noise and energy, I really have to put Mullins in there for the student section, and I know when BU played at Merrimack, the crowd was very rambunctious and the place is so small, you can't ignore them. (Plus, they had the funniest set of signs I think I saw all year).

So far as pure distraction goes, I really might take Mullins or 'Mack (at least when it's packed) over Matthews. Can't speak for Alfond, didn't get to make that trip this year :-(

Haha. I got pulled out of Section 8 and yelled at by Allan once for leaning over the ledge and heckling him while Maine was waiting to get on the ice. Can't hate the guy though, he was half responsible for giving us the '03 HE championship game - second greatest game I've seen in person.
