Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

I'd love to make the trip but I'd end up with a severe case of PTSD. January 1969 we journeyed there to play the Engineers. Their #1 goalie was out for fighting, #2 was injured and they used a spare forward who last played goal in a house league as a kid. Final score RPI 7, BU 0. Coach Kelley was not too happy to saythe least!

our last trip was fun too. seemed like PPs went RPI 200, BU none. Yipper may have had 50 minutes :p

I remember that one, and yet we managed to eek out a tie somehow. I'm also still wondering how the 'engineers' weren't able to engineer an arena with some of the support columns at the bottom of sections directly in between the seats and the rink.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

I'm actually really excited about the trip to RPI. Houston Field House is one of the oldest venues in college hockey, and I've heard good things about the atmosphere there. RPI should actually be pretty good next year, too, so that game will definitely be a challenge. I was more just commenting on the fact that those four games don't exactly jump off the schedule.
a couple of us went to the last game @ RPI... cool fans, cool band, but I remember us having an obstructed view, and I also remember BU having to claw it's way to a tie

a road trip I can reasonably drive to next year! wooooooo

And that would fill the schedule correct? Apart from an exhibition (a Canadian University before going west) or two (exactly right...maybe another)?

The only other possible exibition I assume would be the U18 team... but with the Ice Breaker, the schedule is starting to feel pretty full... perhaps its a one exibition only year?

Maybe, but that home schedule is awful. Brown and Harvard? eek. I guess that's what we get for the last two seasons being chock full of good OOC home games. Also means less games for the Blue Shirt Mafia (they should just be BSM from now on) to find anyone who might've said a word that rhymes with a swear. So all in all, not bad. In the words of Russ Tyler, let's play some puck! Uh oh, here comes one now....

Yeah, it is definatly a down year as far as the home schedule goes... but you are right, we can't get great home OOC games every year (espically if being involved in an away tournament).

It happened to our friends up the street last year... not a great home OOC schedule... we have not seen Brown in a while though (at least that I can recently remember, so it will be cool to see a team we have not seen in a while).

I have been watching BU hockey since the fall of 1984. I have never seen Brown play BU. Hmm, this could be a fun game. What other schools from the big four conferences have I NOT seen BU play.

Union
Bowling Green
Ferris
Western Michigan
Quinnipiac
Minnesota State
Which ever Alaska school we didn't tie to start the wonderful 2007-2008 season. (I can't remember. :) )

Sounds like BU's gonna get the Mavs in the Shillelagh.

I remember seeing us play Brown (I think), years ago... pretty sure it was when I was in school so it might have been in the early 90's.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

I have stats going back to 90-91 season.

BU played Brown 3 times in the 90's and they haven't played each other since.

'91-'92 BU won 8-2 @ WBA
'93-'94 BU won 2-1 @ Brown
'97-'98 BU won 8-1 @ WBA

Yeah, I have lots of time on my hands.:)

But it's a solid year for away games, going to Chicago and St Louis to see teams like Wisco and ND, take the family, call it a vacation. And they're midseason tournaments, so unlike DC I won't be too much of a wreck to see the city between games:D

I think this Shillelagh Tourney is gonna be quite a hassle. It's either fly and rent a car (because Hoffman Estates is actually 40 mins outside Chicago) or drive 16 hours. Luckily I think I might be able to find somewhere to stay in the Pittsburgh area to split up the drive. ;)

I've already checked out some flights to St. Louis, and it's not too, too bad for a one-stop through Milwaukee or Chicago ($305-$320 round-trip). Kinda sucks that there aren't any cheap, direct flights, but oh well.

ETA: And check out the Sears Centre, where the Shillelagh's held. It's completely closed off at one end. Weird.

Yeah I was planning on flying to St Louis and driving to Hoffman, since it's over break, however working retail November-January are blacklisted from taking vacation time so I might end up without enough time off to drive, and I'd be flying a second time (that last clause made my wallet hurt).

No Patriot fans allowed during football season :-)

In actuality, Mama Hammer isn't quite the cook that Mama Fed League is. I know a delicious pizza place, though...

That better be Mineo's in Squirrel Hill.

Read my mind, although I'm closer to the one in Mount. Lebo. My dad grew up down the street from the one in Squirrel Hill, though, so I've eaten there plenty at grandma's house (She didn't cook well either).

That's the only pizza I can dream about. I haven't had it in 5 years and haven't had meat in almost 4 and I still dream about a pepperoni Mineo's pizza.

Mmmm.
