Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

A little off topic (and maybe a little early), but does anyone think there's a slim possibility of Rollheiser leaving this off-season? I know nothing about his situation with the Leafs, only that he attended their camp in 09. Considering he played less than 10 games this past year, gotta wonder what the Leafs are thinking. I think everyone would agree he's not ready to move up a level, but he certainly needs more games if he wants to improve. Is Parker planning to platoon the 2 again? Sure, Rollheiser deserves a fair chance, but he's had 2 years (including injury time) to make his case...and unless he substantially improves over the summer, I can't help but think platooning the 2 will yield the same result - namely, Millan being named the starter again.

A very, very slim chance. Parker told us that the only way he could see either Rollie or Millan leaving early would be if their NHL teams were worried about waiting to sign them until after their senior year. But that's obviously something that doesn't need to be addressed until after next season. The fact that Parker didn't seem too worried about it and the fact that they're just starting to recruit their next goalie now leads me to believe that there hasn't been any indication from anyone that Rollie leaving is much of a possibility. I fully expect a platoon at least to start next season.

My original thoughts.

I think they will platoon again, this year #31 just happened to get hot in January and didn't cool down until March, and at that point the coaching staff appeared to have their hands tied, as it was too late and the games were too vital to throw a cold goalie into the mix so they did there best to get 31 back up to form. If his March and January were flipped I'm almost certain the platoon would have carried on until late February, at the earliest.

According to the RPI thread, the @RPI game for next season is on Sat., Dec. 11. We also know that the Beanpot will be Feb. 7 and Feb. 14. If the IceBreaker is the same weekend as last year, it will be Oct. 8 and 9. If the Shillelagh is the same weekend as last year, it will be Jan. 1 and 2.

Edit: And the Harvard game will probably be Tues., Nov. 23.

Correct on the Ice Breaker. And I believe the Shilehoweveryouspell tournament is actually before New Year's, not after. Not 100% sure though. And we're playing Brown at home the Saturday after Thankssgiving too I'm told.

Shilehoweveryouspell

Comes with being Irish. ;)

It was the first weekend of the New Year last season, so I was just going by that. It might've been moved, though. I have no idea.

So the OOC schedule includes Holy Cross, Harvard, Brown and RPI? Talk about running the gauntlet.

Another Providence team for us to lose to! And another reason for Jon to show up at Agganis?

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Considering we lost to RPI and almost lost to Harvard....

I'm actually really excited about the trip to RPI. Houston Field House is one of the oldest venues in college hockey, and I've heard good things about the atmosphere there. RPI should actually be pretty good next year, too, so that game will definitely be a challenge. I was more just commenting on the fact that those four games don't exactly jump off the schedule.

As long as he doesn't use my extra seat!!

(gave Jon my extra seat during 08-09 and BU lost! It was Beaudry's first game...)

Looks like an exciting schedule!

We don't gain anything by playing any of those 4 teams. We win, little benefit. We lose, huge blow.

The worst kind of matchups: the lose-null variety.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Confidence?

After this season, the team could use some.

Or it could be even worse when they lose to inferior opposition.

Why do you gain confidence from beating the programs you're supposed to beat?

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Ice Breaker is BU, Wisco, Notre Dame and Holy Cross. Since BU's already playing ND in the Shillelagh, it gets Wisco and HC.

So as far as we know the schedule is:

27 League Games
2 x Beanpot
Brown at Home
Harvard at Home
RPI at RPI
Wisco and HC in Ice Breaker
ND and ??? in the Shillelagh?

And that would fill the schedule correct? Apart from an exhibition or two?

ND and (Brown or Mankato [i'd guess Mankato ;) ]) in the Shillelagh?

And that would fill the schedule correct? Apart from an exhibition (a Canadian University before going west) or two (exactly right...maybe another)?

fyp;)

I'd love to make the trip but I'd end up with a severe case of PTSD. January 1969 we journeyed there to play the Engineers. Their #1 goalie was out for fighting, #2 was injured and they used a spare forward who last played goal in a house league as a kid. Final score RPI 7, BU 0. Coach Kelley was not too happy to saythe least!
