Well, at this rate, BC and BU will be passing some western teams soon for national titles...

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Hi BU fans. I know it's early, and the day after the F4, but I come requesting help.

This afternoon, I will be participating in The 24 Bowl to benefit the Travis Roy Foundation, and I'm still not quite at my goal of $500. Any small amount will help, so, if you see this message this morning, and you would like to chip in a few dollars, it would be greatly appreciated.

Donations should be in by 1:00 pm (event starts at 2:00). Thanks!

And yes, I will be bowling on a team named UNH. So, you have a chance to help UNH do something great in April, and you can feel good about it!

Watching last night's game just affirmed the differences between the two Comm Ave schools. York had his troops perfectly executing a well-conceived game plan. Reminds me of BU-Michigan in 1997.... Yep, 1997.

We have one thing to look forward to - a good group of freshmen coming in. Especially if Clenneding (sp?) does in fact come.

This article seems to indicate that Clendening will be here despite the odd statement about "can't sign until November." And who knew T. Anthony's would have a role in recruiting him?

Should interesting to see who else BU adds on defense. Still some good prospects out there.

I don't understand his statement or the timeline. If he is coming this fall, he would aready be a written commitment to BU, not just a verbal (as he says he is in the story). The signing period in November 2010 would be for a recruit for the 2011 Fall season, not this coming year. Is he just mistaken about the process, or has he not signed his letter of intent to BU at all? Is he actually positioning himself to NOT sign and to go to the OHL as he is being pressure to do?

He has not signed his LOI yet. I have no idea what the reason is or if it offers any sort of advantage to him in terms of options, but I know for a fact he hasn't signed it yet.

FL, Thanks for the info... Is it concerning that he hasn't yet? I mean this is the same player that committed to BC, then he/they reneged, then committed to BU and is apparently being pursued heavily by major junior?

Could he be weighing his options by not having signed his LOI? The above makes you question if he is totally, thoroughly committed to coming to BU and playing for them and in the NCAA as opposed to the OHL. I guess this is a wait and see situation.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Wasn't there some talk about Warsofsky trying to be courted away after last season by Ryan Bourque? Is that still a possibility this year?

Also, Clendening not being able to sign until November seems odd. As far as school goes, I can't imagine he'd be able to start playing until after the first semester is over. It's not like he can start school in Nov and start playing on the team right away.

I was reminded of that game as well. Wisconsin should have taken some pointers from that game on how to neutralize small, speedy, skilled forwards with big bruiser defencemen.

I can't help, but think that if the 2009 team played at the same level as the '97 team they would have breezed through the NCAA's.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

and do you have a problem with how the 09 team did in the postseason? :P and november is a weird time to sign...makes no sense.

Re: Boston University 2010 Offseason I - The Year after the Year after effect

Clendening has signed with BU, according to an official at USA who contacted the writer after I'd questioned the writer about it.

There had been some earlier confusion between the writer and USA Hockey. Clendening committed in September 2009. The next time he could have signed his LOI was the following November during the early signing period.

FWIW, Clendening's name is in boldface on Chris Heisenberg's site, which is an indication that he's signed an LOI.

The listing of school commitments reflects reported verbal commitments to attend the school. Although verbal commitments are not legally binding until the player signs a binding NCAA Letter of Intent ("LOI"). Players who have signed a LOI are noted in bold. All other listings are of reported verbal commitments.

That's... interesting. I had heard otherwise from someone I trust. I hadn't heard the part about him not being able to sign until Nov, but I had heard that he hasn't signed yet. I assume the USA Hockey official knows what he/she is talking about, though. Perhaps the person I talked to was just confused like the writer. Dunno. What I do know is that from everything I've heard and read, Clendening will be here in the fall.

John McCarthy finished the AHL regular season at 15-27= 42, plus/minus of +36. Nice for a guy who was 4th line for 3 seasons. Do you think Bonino missed Yip and him this past season?

That is assuming he is not using the BU angle to get a better deal with Major Junior. Tough to completely trust a player who bailed out (or was pushed out) on another D1 School (BC). Perhaps we will know for sure when he shows up for school and checks into dorm. Until then cross your fingers and hope....

Not sure this will be a popular opinion, but IMO out of all the losses last year John's was the least significant. First he was simply a defensive forward (he was on the 2nd PP unit all year and had 0 PP goals, and only 6 goals total) and about the only thing this year's team had an abundance of was defensive forwards, sure we needed a 5th center once #10 was injured, but really who else would you not take over him? And I don't think him being part of 08-09 leadership core is a vital factor either, since he was the good cop, something this year's team appeared to have plenty of in leadership positions already. Sure he worked hard and I loved watching him and would never refuse his services if offered to my team, I just don't believe he was the missing cog this year.
