Re: Boston University: 2010-11 part I - "so...you're saying i get a calendar??"

So long as this is an isolated incident and nothing more than stated, a fight among 14 year olds, who cares? Oh no, an immature 14 year old got into a fight, clearly he won't be prepared for going to school and playing hockey in 3 or 4 years.

agreed

my point was that stuff like that is nothing to be exposed to at his age

no rush to be playing there

takes away his ability to develop, time and space and things he wont be able to go back to

Ah, I see your point. But at the same time, but playing against higher competition can be a good thing. It's probably more that stupid and likely irrelevant things like this don't really need to be publicized.

Re: Boston University: 2010-11 part I - "so...you're saying i get a calendar??"

Yeah, now there'll only be 12 people at the consolation game instead of the usual 18.

Nice!

Actually, one of my lasting memories is the 1994 consolation game when after losing to a very good Harvard team in the first round, we whooped Northeastern 8-0 and went on to join the Crimson in the FF. For some reason, seeing the Terriers beat the Gophers on their turf in the semis is the last game I can recall that year.:D

From that Beanpot consolation game, I have a photo that shows the following players on the ice at one time.

Shawn Bates
Billy Pierce
Jon Jenkins
Shane Johnson
Doug Wood

Can anyone tell me why I like this photo?

Never know... with BC on the schedule the first Monday in Feb this season, you could see a lot of BU jerseys, sparkly red sequin hats, BU hockey bracelets (support charity OMG!!!!!), and facepaint in the Garden at 4:30.

Not that I'd ever bet for that to happen because it is the Piszpot but ... just sayin... it did happen last time BC and BU squared off in Rd 1 and that Gerbe was diving all over the place... in celebration (and breaking Chris Drury's arm with those vicous slashes).

Because they were wearing their BU hockey bracelets and supporting a charity!? :D

I agree with that. 14/15 year olds getting in trouble at school probably should not be the focus of USHR's reporting

The photo is from a high vantage point (hint), so tough to tell what they have on their wrists.:D

Actually, if I recall correctly, the team did have some "memorial" aspect to their uniforms that year - a couple black stipes on one shoulder. I believe one was in honor of Carl James, the former equipment manager who passed away. Does anyone remember the other? (this is not a second trivia test, I cannot remember)...

To be fair, it wasn't the focus of that article.

I don't think Wood would've been in that photo. He graduated the previous season.

Erroneous!

I distinctly recall his water-bottle-launching goal on a screened slapshot against Minnesota in the NCAA semi-finals at Providence the following season. So he must have been on the 94 team too.

You should know better than to question me on these things...:D

However, now that you mention it, I don't think he is in the picture. Because I realized I screwed it up. Must have been Rich Brennan.

#6 Shane Johnson (before switching to 27)
#7 Rich Brennan

If you're saying that Wood was on the team that played in the 1997 BP Conso game, I'm saying no. His last game was the loss to Michigan in the 1996 NCAA SF game.

My original note said 2004 Consolation game - you must have misread it. I'm pretty sure the 97 Beanpot was the Billy Pierce breakaway against Greg Taylor in the championship game, one of six straight beanpots.

Yes I'm well aware Gerbe was a decade after Drury. I just thought making up stuff about Gerbe/Gionta/Collins/(any BC 30-goal scorer) hurting BU players with slashes and baseball swings with their hockey stick and diving was par for the course on the BU thread so there's no need for corrections on this sort of thing.

Thanks.

Nicky, dear, it's time to put on your uniform and pedal your bike down to the KFC. You know how angry they can be when you're late.
