Re: Boston University: 2010-11 part I - "so...you're saying i get a calendar??"

No, no, and no. But at this point the records have to start counting. Here's my theory. If these poles DID count, you would see different results. Voters would spend a lot of time looking at who a team beat, home or road, any key injuries, did they outshoot the team but run into a hot goalie, etc. But since everyone knows that the poles have no impact whatsoever on postseason play, they don't put nearly that much thought into it.

I am more pleased by how we hung with Maine (despite some periods of poor play), how well our penalty killing is executing, and how well the goalies are playing than I am about the ranking. The first three items actually have a bearing on how far this team will ultimately go.

Why in the world are you pleased BU could hang with Maine? We are, in case you forgot, a recovering donwtrodden team....its good to be able to hang with us? You guys are ranked 1, you should have blistered us at Agganis.

Many reasons why I was pleased with the tie:
- Maine was a well justified preseason #2 in HE, BU was a big question mark at #4, given the poor attitude and play last year.
- Yes, we have a good record, but as many have noted, other than the ice-breaker, all games we should win - should have won even with last years team. We caught ND and Wisconsin before they hit their stride.
- So in effect, I saw the Maine game as the teams first true test.
- BU tends not to blister teams at HAA the way they used to at WBA. Remember when Parker forced the team to use a visiting locker room at HAA in the playoffs against Vermont to try to change the sluggish play at home?

No need to sandbag anymore, the game is over. :p

Just as defkit said, so far this team has just beaten the teams they should for the most part, so getting point(s) against top 10 teams is a positive sign.

Thanks for the info re: following college hockey in the '70s. I imagine without the internet and Comcast sports packages on television, many people would not be as big a fan of the sport as they are now. But that probably goes for every sport, both professional and collegiate, to some extent.

How does BU give out their student tix? I'm curious as to why UNH tix are available the week before that series.

Students are given the option to purchase season tickets before the season at a discounted rate, ensuring them a ticket to all home games, plus a beanpot ticket (included in price of season ticket), as well as first dibs on road tickets, and playoff tickets, though not Frozen Four tickets! Other than that, there are designated "pick up days" where students with a sportspass (basically everyone) can come with their ID plus a friend's ID to pick up a free ticket to all of the home games being played before the next pick up date. They're usually every couple of weeks, and it's all first come first serve until they run out, hence the reason for the season tickets. Sometimes they run gimmicks with the BC game, making kids go to a basketball game or two in order to get their tickets. Fortunately, they've stopped doing this it seems, it was a ridiculously stupid idea.

But that's mattered what, once in the last decade plus?

Good description, I'd just add that in 08-09 it was basically pickup tickets on Monday for that weekend's game(s) which seems to be what UNH still does, but since then they have transitioned to multi-weekend pickup days so kids pick up MC and UNH tickets this Monday and then 2 Mondays later it will be for Brown and BC (and NU to I believe)

har har. that was more of a potshot at whoever made the decision that the best way to distribute the few FF tickets BU had for students through a lottery system open to the entire student population, instead of a first come first serve for loyal season ticket holders who had paid in part for right of refusal on all other playoff tickets. this opened it up for students who had no interest in going to enter the lottery solely so they could resell tickets they won for profit, which is what many who entered the lottery openly said they would do, and what a few who did win the lottery ended up doing. not sure whether they were caught by the university or not, but it was a big mistake that threw loyal fans under the bus who wanted those tickets.

BU hasn't given up a goal since September 12th. That's 1,187 minutes and 2 seconds and is currently tied for second longest shutout streak in NCAA history.

i laugh at how the media guides in the 70s had the coach's home phone number in there.

I'm thinking of going to the game, want to help me out with some directions? Have never been to Newton Soccer Field. Where do I go once I get off the B Line?

I believe it's unwalkable since it's on their Newton Campus (there are two?) which appears to be well over a mile from the BC stop.

i can tell you that the newton soccer field is about 1-1 1/2 miles up comm ave. you come to centre street and take a right and less than a mile is the newton campus on your left. my daughter was at that campus freshman year but i know you can just get on a BC bus at the main gate which is further up from where the T stop is on the BC side of comm ave. it will take you to the front of the newton campus but leave you in front, you gotta find it from there, its not a big campus

I think I was halfway through screaming the phrase when Connolly buried the pass from Chiasson on the first goal. It does work on occassion, but not enough to justify doing it as often as they do.

Ha! I most definitely was doing the exact same thing.
