Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One
some of the worst officiating I've seen in a long while. Parker was LIT and going OFF at the crew during the handshakes as well. I'll take the tie, but, my word, the refs left their fingerprints all over this game tonight...in any case..
some thoughts:
Freshmen - Thought overall, they played well. The D-men utilized a lot of stick checks and lane-blocking, which is usually an indication of proper body positioning. Chiasson is back to feeling comfortable finishing his checks, and I thought Megan showed some hustle as well. His forecheck, in particular, I thought was good. Nicastro just looks comfortable with the puck - whether along the boards, behind the net, or joining the rush.
Goaltending - Rollie made some big saves tonight. His glove hand looks quite comfortable, as he had to flash it a few times. With the exception of the fatty leg-pad rebound that led to UNH's first goal?, I thought he played well.
rest of the forwards - I really liked Gaudet's play tonight. He was all over the ice - forecheck, backcheck, blocked shots - nice to see. VinSap was pushing it pretty hard too. After the stick work he exhibited on his scoring drive, it was only right that he was rewarded a goal. Trivino still needs to work on faceoffs - I don't have the stats here, but I don't remember him winning a single one in the 3rd.
rest of the D - Although he started well, it looked Shatty started to lose a little focus towards the last half of the 3rd. For one, his positioning started to wane, and he seemed almost too willing to gain the zone with the puck. We know he's certainly proficient with the puck, but he usually dumps it along the glass and allows the forwards to chase...
All in all, I think it goes without saying that chemistry is a primary issue. Not knowing where their teammates are, but more importantly, not anticipating where their teammates will be. This should come with time, but it's still a glaring characteristic of this team.
can't wait to hear what Parker had to say after the game..
