Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

So, chalk this one up to poor defensive effort? Or were the refs conspiring against us? ;)

More so the first than the second, but more than anything a lack of offensive coordination, we missed a lot of shots we should have made, and didn't connect on a lot of passes we should have.

Side note: What has happened to the more cowbell videos? Clearly the band is still doing the cowbell thing every third period but the videos no longer play. Maybe we should add it in as a chant? Eh?

I don't understand why Courtnall is not in the lineup again tonight? Does anyone have inside insight? I think he is big, physical, fast, and skates really well. I think he brings more to the table than some of the other third and fourth line guys.

or the 2nd line...

...one step forward, two steps back :(

Interesting to hear Bernie and Tom's take on the ride home. Both agreed that they were expecting more from Lowell and that BU will be more of a force later in the season once the younger players get some more time in.

I'd like to subscribe to that view, but that's placing some pretty high expectations on some players who I think have already been among the best skaters on the team (Chiasson, Santana, Megan...) I have my doubts about the ceiling of other players starting to see some time- Gaudet, Gilroy, Glass. Seems like there's too many of those 4th line plugger types, but I hope one or two can break out a little like Z. Cohen did last year.

I thought Trivino was a little better tonight, and his line had its moments, but he has to start producing at some point, no?

BC is usually smart enough to seal those kind of things in a steel enforced vault 900 feet below the surface of the earth. Me? I'd put the Beanpot Trot on a rocket and shoot it into Sun.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Thank you CC. I'll admit it, I'm addicted to Trot.

Glad I went trick or treating tonight.

This team needs to get four points next weekend or the hole gets deeper.

Not if they continue to give up 36 shots per game.

Who's "Pop's?"

Where's my Beanpot Trot video on YouTube!?

The Battle of Comm Ave documentary was a "C" effort because the producers aren't from around here. I hate to confirm John Powers parochial comment, but there are certain things you need to "live" to "get."

Have fun tonight. I'll be trick or treating with Batman.

I got my Battle of Comm Ave and agree there could have been more especially in the late 60's early 70's. As for the Beanpot Trot, when I viewed the segments at the end, there was no sound on it. Did anyone else experince this?

BATTLE FOR COMM AVE:

Rogie referenced something about Snooks Kelley's 500th win and asked me to 'tell the rest of the story." Our team had an exhibition game in Montreal Forum against Candien Jr. All Stars on a Monday night and returned to Boston for the Wednesday night game against BC.

Coach Jack Kelley made very clear the significance of the game to BC and made sure we knew he didn't want to be the 500th. The media of that era was generally in the tank for BC especially the Globe and you knew that were BC to win, it would push nuclear war to the back pages. It was not our best game and we changed goalies after they had trouble seeing the puck. Big Ed Kenty had 4 goals including a bomb from center ice. We were still in it trailing by one but Ned Yetten foiled Ronnie Anderson and the Eagles scored into an empty net to ice it. As we proceeded through the hand shake line, Coach Kelley congratulated Snooks and spent several moments saying what a wonderful tribute it was etc. etc. When we got into the locker room he was not pleased and let the team know it in no uncertain terms. When they opened the locker room, the late Earle Leeder of the Friends of BU Hockey came in and said, "well the old man really went out in style tonight!" Coach Kelley promptly chased him from the room. Later in the spring after we had won the second of our two straight titles, the team was honored at the Varsity Club Hall of Fame banquet. Snooks Kelley was going to receive an award as most honored opponent. By that time, we were losing 3 underclassmen (Bob Brown, Ric Jordan, and Ron Anderson) to the pros and Coach Kelley was the GM/Coach of the Whalers of the new WHA. Coach Kelley intorduced Bobby Brown to Snooks Kelley and said "Bob you remember Coach Kelley ?" Brownie said, "sure I helped him win his 500th game!"

I loved seeing Shag Shaunessy's comments about the BC fight song. I have been happily married to a BC girl for 34 years. When I got married two of our guys, my roommate Dave Wisener (best man) and Billy Flynn (usher) were in the wedding party and another former roommate Ric Jordan was there as well. At some point in the reception, the orchestra (no DJ's were used then) struck up "For Boston." The four of us left the hall and did not return until they had finished!

They did. Parker's had his on almost every time I've seen him off the ice. Haven't seen too many players wearing them, though. Several departed players from last year's team have picked up their rings when they've come back for a game- Smolinsky against the U18 Team, Wilson against ND for those that I know of.

thanks... someone with access to Parker (such as yourself... hint hint) should take a picture of his ring and post it

What am I gonna do? Just sneak out my phone the next time I interview him and snap a pic? Or ask him? "Alright, one more question. Can I, umm..., take a picture of your ring?"

Seriously, though, I'll tell one of our photogs to get a photo of it at the next press conference and I'll post it on the blog.

The Bruins are playing the Rangers right now on NESN for anyone that wants to watch Gilroy play.

oh and if it were me, I would totally take a picture of his ring myself. (i'm a journalist, but not a sportswriter). why not? the Globe, Herald, other papers always take close-up pictures of the pro teams championship rings.
