Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

But not as good as it could have been. It was a lot of the same stuff we've seen before. I was looking for more.......something. The trailer that was released a while back was cooler. It seemed kind of BU-focused (not that I mind ;)) so I'm curious as to what the BC fans will have to say. They should be airing this prior to the first BU-BC game. When does it air?

toward the end of nov (25th?) on nesn... then in the spring on espn?

again... i want to buy all the BU games in the nesn library. the fact that they have this footage and i can't buy it to watch on a night like this is idiotic. (and i'd also buy an hour of hazel mae footage of her don't absolutely nothing -- so maybe i'm not the best gauge of demand)

one more... why did they bother calling you and other fans (bomber)? there were no 'fan footage' or fan stories. not the finished product. not on the cutting room floor. i was expecting something after y'all mentioned this earlier.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Some of the storylines definitely intertwined with the History of the Beanpot film and the Hockey East 25th Anniversary film, but I feel like that was necessary. Obviously the Beanpot and Hockey East titles are gonna be a major focus of a BU-BC film, so it's gonna be nearly impossible not to repeat some stuff. I'm pretty sure all the interview footage was new, though. Maybe it's just because I haven't been around as long and haven't seen as much over the years as most of you, but I thought it was great. I knew next to nothing about Harry Cleverly, Snooks Kelley, Jack Kelley or Len Ceglarski before watching this, so that was especially interesting for me.

do you have bernie's book on BU Hockey? mostly pictures and quick stories about the players. but it hits dang near everyone to have worn a scarlet and white sweater.

you then no doubt missed the mike milbury half-a-month:p . you would have loved that! he was all over the paper crying how cedorchuk brought in too many players that were promised money and he was stuck telling guys they didn't have any scholarships for them. he embarrassed himself, in my opinion.. but it was bc, so it was a bonus.

...of course that just brought Jerry in :( , and then shortly later, no more "NINE-TEEN FORTY-NINE!"

Nope, but it definitely just got added to my Christmas list (I definitely don't have $34 to spare right now).

I can only imagine. After watching him on NESN, watching old Bruins footage, and getting the chance to meet him, I can't imagine Milbury ever biting his tongue.

19.95 -- i think i got it at the BU bookstore on the shelves, first floor, to the left of the escalator. (i see the $34 on amazon... thieves!!:p )

among all the pix, there is a neat one on page 6 of Parker on a breakaway against Ken Dryden.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Can someone help me out with how Yale gained a first place vote this week?

(yes, poles are subjective, flawed, awful and misleading... I'm just curious as to thoughts on how someone could go "hmmmm, Yale is the best team in the nation this week because _________" )

Uhmmm . . . because they're undefeated?

Odd that this early in the season all the expected stud teams have been kissed at least once. This could be a funny year.

Nice. I'll have to look for it and then just pay with convenience points. No way my parents will question spending $20 on a book. They'll just assume that I'm actually doing schoolwork here. :p

I agree with you Scarlet. It could've been better, should have had more climatic on-ice moments in big games. Where was Zancanaro's GWG in Jack's 700th win, which Emrick called? Also was disappointed that a titanic open ice hit by Mike Grier at the old Garden was omitted.

Apparently there is no video tape of the '78 NCAA game, which aired on PBS. Some donkey probably taped over it.

Kelleher family story was interesting, but not unprecedented. Pete Yetten, was a dman on the '71 champs (tho better known as the football team's QB). A few years later, his brother Ned who played goal for the Eagles produced a frustrating stand-on-your-head performance to tie BU at WBA.

The production airs on NESN on Nov. 25 and in March on NHL Network.

I would have forked over $20 to watch the 1986 Beanpot final the second I finished watching. Do I hear $30!? :)

The fan view would have added a key dimension that was missing. And I'm not just saying that because I'm stuck to the bottom of a boot on the cutting room floor. :) Seriously, it needed fan passion. I mean, can you imagine telling the story of the 2004 Red Sox (Five years ago today.) without talking to fans? As much as I loved Scott Shaunessy, OC, Mike, Jack, Tony, and Bernie (And I freakin' LOVED Shag and OC.) it needed some fan stuff.

Can someone please get the Beanpot Trot up on YouTube pronto. And then we can all put it on our sig? Oh. My. God. Talk about off the charts funny. And I had no idea! I know. I was a Sophomore and didn't know about it. (And I'm a Bears fan.)

Did I mention how much I loved Shag?

Off to go watch the Beanpot Trot again.

I just thought of something even better.

Play the Beanpot Trot on the Jumbo-tron before the next BU-BC game. :D

Haha that'd be great, though I think Agganis strays from these types of jabs at the other team. I was hoping they'd pipe Rhianna music over the PA when Chris Brown got his game misconduct.

I think all that needs to be said about it is this: I don't think I'd ever check my watch during a DVD about the BU/bc rivalry. That should say something about the film.

Too much "throw-away" footage....Innocuous plays and video that didn't fit with the voiceover...The audio seemed inconsistent too...They didn't clean it up very well...Could clearly tell when they were making edits.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I didnt want to get the DVD until others had a chance to critique it. This is exactly why.

Seems like it was just a sloppy money grab.

Pass.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

It was worth the $7.50, but I wouldn't pay more.

I was hoping this would be something like the Michigan-Ohio St. special that HBO ran - did anyone here see that? It was awesome. And yes, fan perspective would have really added to this. I'm glad I didn't re-arrange my schedule to get video taped for this only to not even be in it. :) There was too much of the Kellehers. I would have liked to see a joint interview with Jack and Jerry. The fact that these two have played against and known each other since high school should have been what started this whole show. Seriously, say what you will about other rivalries, that right there to me is the key to what this rivalry currently is.

The Beanpot Trot is worth the cost alone. Yes, I'm obsessed. :)

Agree about the joint interview.

It shouldn't be possible to make a film about the rivalry that lacks emotion and intensity...These guys did it unfortunately.

Worth the 7.50, sure...Worth a 2nd watch anytime in the near future? No. I'd rather watch old games or Canes highlight video another 8,000 times.

Bingo. It was around a 2 or 3 on the passion meter and the material goes to 11.

There are three to four memorial stories/moments that I won't ruin here for those that haven't seen it yet, but... but.... (Should have been more.)

did you buy it recently? I think the book is out of print, hence the high price on Amazon. If it's still at the store I'd stop in and get it next time I'm there.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I've owned that book for at least a couple years now...

Myself, my initial impressions were that it is geared more towards audience that has been following this program for 20-30+ years than someone like myself who has only been exposed to this program for 5-6 years. I couldn't appreciate the video as much as perhaps others among us who watched the DVD since anything prior to the 2004-05 season, I have no knowledge of... and the majority of the DVD was pre-2004-05. It was interesting to watch, and I learned a lot about both programs, but I was hoping for a lot more "BU and BC are two of the best programs today" than actually appeared on the DVD.

I also thought it seemed to focus a lot more on BC than BU... the best example I can think of initially was that quotes that were shown before segments always seemed to be a BC person quote (I remember York and Gionta having quotes, don't remember any BU player quotes).
