Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I agree the returning players largely have either regressed or flatlined while the freshmen have been very promising.

I'm not ready to qualify anyone as regressing after only three games. Everyone's role changes year to year, and it will be some time before the players, or even the coaches for that matter will figure out everyone's role.

One guy who has shown that he know what is role is is Chiasson. Go to the net, and also, hit people. THat check he threw late in the game was sweet.

yeah, he looks like a great replacement for yip. his two goals at umass were carbon copies of so many yip goals - pick up garbage laying around the net and smash it home while throwing his body into wayward forwards in the neutral zone.

I'm plenty observant, thanks. Bonino has done nothing this year.

Geez, let's not knock the guy while he's down. And as a reminder, last season, after a good start, he struggled mightily. But when he was needed down the stretch, he sure came up big.

Also, in case it was not posted already, courtesy of the Terrier Hockey Blog: Sean Sullivan was called up by Phoenix on Friday. Looks like he did not get any ice time last night but here's hoping he suits up tomorrow in New York. Congratulatons, Sean.

Are you kidding? He was the best player on the ice up at UMass in my opinion (aside from Chiasson)...And everyone struggled vs Notre Dame.

Tough to kill the kid 2 games in when the team as a whole hasn't performed up to their ability yet...Jeez. Give it a little time.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

i think Nick has been trying to include his linemates in plays where we would normally think he has a shot himself. he probably realizes that he can't do everything by himself, nor should he, so he is working to get these guys who are new to playing with him involved as well... in addition to learning how they play and what to expect from each other.

of course this current setback will not help, but it's a long season and we know what he is capable of accomplishing.

There's no sense arguing hockey with Jofa Jr. Dude's miserable about the team no matter what state they're in.

Yeah, Nick hasn't been bad at all this season (which is what 2 games old! Come on.)

In fact lets wait a little longer to judge anybody!

"clipping"?!?!? mich dude when down and gave a great hip check on zach. if zach wasn't 6'9", 1) zach wouldn't have done a cartwheel, and 2) he wouldn't have appeared to get him so low. awful call.

I'm a little late on this. Didn't see it until work this morning, but I called that clipping before the whistle blew. I thought he caught him below the knees, and the replay confirmed that. You have to hit someone above the knees and below the shoulders.

Totally agree on the "clipping" (seriously, I've never heard that call in a hockey game)- that was as clean and as great of a hip check as you'll see.

Clipping is in the USA hockey rule book under the tripping penalty entry

That hit was all thighs, bro.

And it was a beautiful hip check. Just perfect and awesome. I booed the refs after it...then I cheered us getting a power play.

I know Ronan is a hip checker of some repute form back in the day, but it reminded me of one Frederick Augustus Meyer IV.

missing Bonino isn't about what he has produced so far this season, its about what he would have been producing for the next few weeks.

Missing Bonino hurts, but if we get through this weekend against UML without dropping both games, it might not be the worst thing for everyone else. Having the other forwards get into an offensive rhythm is a good thing, rather than depending on Nick for all of our offense.

Can someone help me out with how Yale gained a first place vote this week?

(yes, poles are subjective, flawed, awful and misleading... I'm just curious as to thoughts on how someone could go "hmmmm, Yale is the best team in the nation this week because _________" )

everyon else sucks!

You can't lose if you don't play.

Good point. Somebody at the game made the statement (might've been shrader or Babbitt) that they haven't put it together yet but that's to be expected. The Michigan game and a couple of minutes of the Notre Dame game showed what they can do, its a matter of getting more consistant. I think Bonino has played well, as well as some others here and there, but perhaps a more complete effort instead of waiting for a star player to step up will be good in the short term (obviously the sooner he gets back the better).

Brett Bennett Posts a SO on friday against Minn St. in a 6-0 win... Seems to be progressing well in madison

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

My god, he's going to break the record before Thanksgiving at this rate:

Eric Gryba entered the season needing 52 penalty minutes to break Freddy Meyer’s all-time BU record.

3 games into the season he already has 21, and now stands a mere 31 minutes away from the top spot.

We need a Cal Ripken-like warehouse-with-giant-countdown-numbers thing for this. Someone get a commemorative Tshirt ready.

My philosophy on Bennett is the same as IIRC a Dodgers team advisor about an unnamed player in the Mitchell Report, I'm paraphrasing: He made our team and got offered the <strike>contract</strike> scholarship he did because he was <strike>on steroids</strike> working his a** off, now that he feels comfortable here he has stopped <strike>taking steroids</strike> working his a** off, however, if we <strike>trade</strike> cut him he will feel scorned and start <strike>taking steroids</strike> working his a** off in an attempt to get back at us.

So I wouldn't be surprised at all if he has a completely different work ethic, at least initially, than he did at BU, and I'm really not rooting for him to fail, I have no reason to. Also the situation worked itself out absolutely perfectly for BU fans so I have no idea why you keep trying to bring him up. He is not exactly the one who got away in any of our minds, and never will be.
