Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

glad this game wasn't on tv for the rest of the nation to see how bad HEA refs are....:p

"clipping"?!?!? mich dude when down and gave a great hip check on zach. if zach wasn't 6'9", 1) zach wouldn't have done a cartwheel, and 2) he wouldn't have appeared to get him so low. awful call.

and the major CFB on michigan was awful from my view. looked like he got him in front. i thought it would be two because of the violent nature and it was near the wall... but certainly not a 5.

gryba's was a 5 though. if bernie said otherwise on the radio, well....;)

Totally agree on the "clipping" (seriously, I've never heard that call in a hockey game)- that was as clean and as great of a hip check as you'll see.

As for the misconducts, I thought both Gryba and Brown deserved to be ejected. Both were dirty IMO. No room for that. Kampfer's shot after the whistle definitely warranted an ejection, too. I didn't realize he actually had been ejected until after the game because there was no minor or major penalty, just the game misconduct.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Nick's dad also told people it was a "bruised shoulder". Just saying.

Shoulder dislocations are in the category of injuries where the timetable is flexible based on pain tolerance and its impact on play. The danger of re-injury is low (although one is always more prone to dislocations if they've occurred previously), but swelling and pain is an issue. I'd guess Nick's dad would know when Nick will try to be back, but Parker's timetable is more conservative.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

In the grand scheme of things, isn't a dislocated shoulder better (so to speak) than a separated shoulder? You could tell as soon as he got hit that he did something to the shoulder.

Millan looked really sharp tonight, then let in that first goal. Given all the stops he made, to get beat on that goal was such a let down. I had my eyes closed on the 2nd one.

This was a big win tonight.

Also, Parker said they were going to be very cautious since it is his first time and they want to make sure it doesn't happen again. He made it sound like it if it got to the point where Bonino could maybe play through it, they'd hold him out another week just to make sure.

Absolutely. A dislocated shoulder will really only hurt if he gets hit while his arm's stretched out or raised up. It won't hurt if he hits someone or if someone hits him while his arms tucked. A separated shoulder hurts anytime there's contact.

Yes. They're a similar class of injury, but if it's separated it's completely out of the socket instead of just "off track." I missed the tumble to be honest, but this is big with the series vs. UML looming.

Kieran was very sharp. There were some rebounds, but the defense stepped up to block the second chances or lift sticks at just the right time. The first one was annoyingly sneaky. The second one was a nice pass and nice shot, but I couldn't tell if he got a piece of it.

I agree that this was a huge win. No doubt in my mind that Michigan showed how strong a team they have, especially in the 3rd period, but this game showed that this BU team still has a ton of talent, and when they put together a focused effort they were able to get a win. There are still errors to correct for sure, but this was great progression.

And there was a "facemask" call earlier. Of course, my wife had to be at the game with me, asking all the usual hockey questions.

Explaining facemasking and clipping nearly put me on tilt when she said she thought those were for football.

Wow. Didn't even realize "grasping the facemask" was the official call on that. Are they just making up penalties now? And why was the "contact to the head - roughing" not just called "elbowing"?

When I played growing up, we had tripping, hooking, holding, holding the stick, slashing, elbowing, cross-checking, high-sticking and interference for minors. Anything that didn't fit into one of those categories but was clearly still a penalty was roughing.

So, I'm thinking it's gonna be a while before we see the regular home whites again.

We also had the seldom heard "charging" call tonight. At least that's a real hockey penalty.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

As Mookie said, not a good night for the Zebras. Zach's charging call was suspect as well. It certainly looked like the Michigan defenseman was riding him into the Goalie. And not only did we have a clipping call tonight, (which was a clean hip check) but we had a facemask. What's next? Illegal procedure? But enough of whining about reffing. Not my MO.

21 shots in the third!!!?? BU really lucked out tonight. Millan was on fire until he gave up that first one. It was kind of like a tailback running in for his 4th TD, only to trip on the 10 yard line and fumble the ball. He had no chance on goal #2. (How did TWO Michigan guys get behind the defense like that?)

But overall, a very fun game. Michigan is big. BU is big. There was some serious hitting. Both goalies made some HUGE saves. (Was that video reviewed goal in? I thought it was, but knew it wouldn't count, because there is no way that one camera shot was conclusive.) The band rocked. It was loud, and scoring the winner with under 3 to play is always a blast.

Other rambles: BU needs to work on their passing and entire offensive flow.
The freshman D looked a bit nervous early on, but settled down. Employee #10 is very frustrating to watch. Hopefully confidence will come with more success.

BU Hockey: Rope a Dope.

I agree with both these points. The stretch passes to the blue line worked a lot tonight, and we loved it because it wasn't the neutral zone trap that we hate playing against, but Michigan was content to let one guy through and then give him no passing options, but inevitably a junky pass was attempted anyway and picked off. This happened at least 10 times tonight. I wonder if Shattenkirk still feels ill, he had some bad cross-ice passes in his own zone early, but 2 assists are nice.

Nicastro played a little bit tentative tonight, definitely started to feel the pressure a bit, and Escobedo still seems to get beat to the puck whenever he's playing his man entering the d-zone. He uses some stickwork in the corners to prevent chances, but needs to hold his defensive positioning better.

Where the hell is my schedule poster!? :)

Seriously, I've been meaning to ask about that. Did they give them out this year? I want one.

Nice to meet you too! No problem.

P.S. The "sideways rain" definitely arrived after the game, what a mess.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

We also had the seldom heard "charging" call tonight. At least that's a real hockey penalty.

that one was actually a legit call - the michigan guy left his feet and checked our guy into the boards. the thing i saw with the cohen clipping call was that the michigan guy went lower on the check than he needed to so he opened the door for the official to make a terrible call. he couldve easily stopped cohen by hitting him solid in his chest and that would've appeared 100% legal. the facemask call was confusing but they'd missed two other blatant ones on that play including a blaring interference in front of the net while our guy was taking the puck down low and behind the net that i chalked that one up as even.

all of that said - this is why you keep hustling! if you keep skating hard even when it looks like a pedestrian play, someone will steal a page from the brett bennett instruction manual on puck handling and you'll have yourself a game winning goal. also, add an assist to rick astley on colby's goal.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Seen a facemask penalty a few times.. Can't grab the cage.

Thank you scarlet. I didn't find one at customer service, so you've sVedberg me!!

Bomber, they were left around the first two games, but gone by the end.

I got my epic'ish posters tonight. Not bad.

Vincent and #10 need to hit somebody. This is a contact sport. If you are not going to score (either) or not going to cover a man on the wing and allow him to glide in and score the tying goal (Vincent), then you are wasting icetime. After UM tied it, as the C left the ice he banged the boards pretty hard. I pictured him saying, "ef***** saponari" as he marked up the white... That's what I was thinking myself.

Ccohen had too much time to score on his goal. When I could see him look up I knew it was in. Goalie has no chance then. Warso needs to develop that ability.

And nobody is allowed to ***** at Bulldog ever again. If you can't remember, write it down. If 10 and Voncent had a little bulldog in em, I'd be more comfortable. (don't read that the wrong way... :))

I probably missed them them on Tuesday because the five dollar cookie table is where they used to have the "poster and stuff" table. Darn.

Sorry I just put the "Five Dollar Foot Long" song in everyone's head. :)
