Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

that'd give us great deck chairs on the titanic.

We only lost 2 additional pairs last night, sure the RPI hit makes it harder to flip additional pairs back in our direction, but winning the next 8 then losing in the HE finals would likely do more than rearrange deck chairs on the Titanic. Don't give up the ship, just yet.

5 games to go, 1 point out of home ice.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

The only good thing about last night's game was that I didn't see it.

What a crap performance. Might of been the refs but gee-whiz, PC?

They seem to have out number...and they stink.

Let's hope for a convincing Win tonight. They have got to keep things interesting...

The thing is, I didn't think they played poorly last night. They definitely played better than they did in the January game down there.

How did they look compared to Maine last weekend?

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Bernie and Tom claimed on the radio that when it was 5x5 BU dominated. However that ended up being a minority of the time spent on ice.

'if' the boys run the table, uvm will drop from tuc status (and our .750 winning %). The nu wins would help. BU will guarantee themselves home ice for the qf if they win out. But again Lowell is looking like a sinking rock and may lose tuc status as well soon.

Really looks like hea champs or bust.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Truth be told, any team that drops a critical game to PC does not deserve an at-large bid. If they want to play in the NCAAs they are going to need to prove they deserve to be there by at least making the HE semis if not winning them.

you really cant determine any of this right now. the pwr is so volatile that there's really no way to have an idea of how anything will fall until at least march 1, and more likely the beginning of the he playoffs.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Last yrs squad had the game at umass where they fell behind big later in the year. Those guys didn't ***** about calls, they stepped up and turned it around and kicked the chit outta umass in the back half of the game. There, unfortunately, was none of that last night. More penalties and blown chances-pretty much what we've seen all year from this group. Oh well.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Sure slurpees, you have a point. But remember two years ago when BU started out poorly, then had that run? That was also set up where many hea teams were around the tuc bubble (like now) and as they fell off we weren't able to gain traction with comparisons. I'm only making assumptions from experience. The situation is why earlier this week I was typing how I hoped uvm would sweep uhn. We need to assume we'll take both up there and if they drop those plus this week they may disappear. Same with nu. We could get umass in the qf and kill them off as well if we get to the fleet ctr. There is just no cushion to speak of right now.

After watching the Switzerland-Norway game, BU-PC is going to have to be quite the epic battle to top it. Wow.

BU Hockey: Power Schmower. Entertain Me.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Why care about pairwise and ncaa playoffs now? This team for a time looked like it would not even be able to get to the HE playoffs. The way BU has played this year they really do not deserve an at large bid and we should just be happy that we are within reach of home ice for the HE playoffs. I say we just enjoy the rest of the season and worry more about who we end up playing in the HE playoffs, not which teams we want to be or not be a TUC or unlikely scenarios where we need to win all the games and these teams need to lose and this team needs a tie etc.

difference in that year was we beat 0 good teams, an 0 teams that made the playoffs. this year, if the playoffs started today instead of an 0-fer, we're 3-5-2, so improved, plus a .500 tuc record with michigan and lowell (tack on 3-1) out of the tuc (#26, 27). i agree a deep HE tourney run is going to be necessary, but im just saying we can't all write it off as win the tournament or we're toast at this point. really the only thing to do right now is win games and not worry about what everybody else does.

Matt Gilroy will be at the game tonight, hosting the Norwood High hockey team.

Bernie mentioned that last night. I think that is great of him.

When are we supposed to start caring about the pwr? Its Feb. It's time to start caring when you have 4 regular season games left.

But now, its all about winning the HE tourney. Every game left is a play-off game.

BU: 10-4-0 in '10

For a while there, I believed we had the mojo, that we could make some damage in the post-season. But it's late, and now I'm shifting to being happy the players are going out strong. Last night's loss was tough to read about; but the end of tonight's game sounded (on the radio, at least) like they really played tough, and shut down PC's ability to even get their goalie pulled, let alone set something up. It's fundamental, but it takes effort, and I was glad to see it happen.

I know a lot of people will point to that final minute in the Championship Game as being with that moment. But for me, it was the final two-three minutes against Vermont when they couldn't even get their goalie out of the net until basically the end of the game and then we almost scored an empty net goal foiled only by the spectacular last second dive by the Vermont player.

That was an amazing sequence of events.

UMass just dropped out. Michigan jumped in. since our game ended we've gone up to t18, down to t22, and now t20.

umass now 26, merrimack 28. umass end the rs with 3 roads (bc, maine, maine), not looking good. mack has a nice schedule with h/h pc and two h with maine. rpi fell to 29 with their loss.
