Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

two good results last night, we're a few points from being back in the big four days...I really didn't think Maine was going to be this good, but who did?
Yup, I like the fact that the elevator is going up -- and better than that, I like the way BU is playing. But things are really bunched. If BU had lost Friday night, they'd be sitting by themselves in 8th rather than holding 5th place (thanks to the tiebreaker).

We probably shouldn't put too much weight on the remaining schedules, but I'd rather be BU traveling to the Gutt for two, than UMass going up to Alfond for a pair (which is how they finish the season).

Lowell likewise has to travel to Maine for two, and also has home and home with BC.

As to Maine, the Wildcats didn't do us any favors this weekend (or themselves). It seems funny to look to Merrimack for help, but they are 7-2 at home and Maine has two in that little house of pain.

Except in the PWR:eek:

The next 3 games are the toughest (mathematically) 3 game stretch all year. I'm not looking around at who plays who and where until Valentines day. If at that time we are still in 5th or better in HE and have a slightly improved RPI over our current one, then it's time to break out the what-if-team-a-beats-team-b-calculator

OH good lord...this one is even less comprehensible English than the first!
The way that reads I feel like I should rush a money order through Western Union to help a good Nigerian doctor.

An idea for the Dog Pound on Monday to get into the BC players heads I suggest booing Samuelsson whenever he touches the puck like Montreal fans when Chara touches the puck during Bruins games. Another idea is when he is introduced start a Cam Neely chant just to mess with his head

The problem is that pretty much nobody in the Dog Pound would know what that meant. I would bet 98% of the Dog Pound has no idea who Ulf Samuelsson is. Heck, probably not even 50% knows who Cam Neely is.

Uncle Ulfie's number is hanging in the rafters of the Hartford Civic Center.

hey BU fans... at the risk of being self-promotional I want to point out an article I wrote for the Terrier Hockey Fan Blog about the Beanpot trophy, and how the trophy presented on the ice is a replica of the original created a few years ago.

Unlike the stories about Alex Greer, I guarantee this is 100% true. I researched it and everything.

anyway, here is a link and the first few paragraphs if anyone's interested. I am also expecting it to be published Monday by College Hockey News

http://terrierhockey2.blogspot.com/2010/02/beanpots-identical-twin.html

On Monday night, a famous, sparkling trophy called the Beanpot will be awarded to the best college hockey team in Boston.

The trophy will be instantly recognizable to fans of Boston University or Boston College, but it is not the same one skated around the ice by the heroic likes of Mike Eruzione, Jack O’Callahan, John Cunniff, Wayne Turner and Chris Drury.

Although the tournament began in 1952, the actual trophy presented to modern day winners was made less than five years ago. After decades of wear and tear, and the occasional incident involving a winning team misplacing the trophy, Beanpot tournament officials decided the original pot was too precious to risk any further.

The original is in good shape, says Steve Nazro, tournament director and vice president of events at the TD Garden, but “it’s too valuable” to actually give to the winners for a full year. “To have any chance of having it stolen, or held hostage would be a big deal,” he says.

When I first read this, I thought, "Exaggerate much?" Then I thought about it more, and realized you're probably right, which is just sad. This should be required viewing for every hockey fan in Boston:

Anyone else going to watch Red, White, and BU on NESN on Wednesday I think? Looks like just another take on the 1980 olympics but at least it will be more BU-centric.

that goal he scores on the whalers at 1:27 is terrible, never should've seen the net. then again, we are talking about the whalers, so that's about par for the course. long live sean burke!

Hi everyone,
Check out my new Beanpot feature at http://www.goterriers.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/020810aae.html for a look at what Kevin Shattenkirk's day will be like, starting when he waked up around now.

It also features some thoughts on the BU-BC matchup and an update on Colby Cohen's health status for tonight.

And for those interested in the full story on how BU won seven championships last year, including the Beanpot, go to www.buhockeybook.com

Very informative story, thanks BU-Grad! I think the trophy can be re-incarnated without outrage because there's more at stake here than just a metal pot. The bragging rights are just as much a trophy.

I enjoyed it. I'm sure SteveF will peek in here and say that makes me a fanboy, but so be it! Thanks Scott.

Let's make it three self-promotions on one page.

If anyone didn't get the 2008-09 Season Highlights DVD I've been offering but is still interested, please send me an email at buhighlights@gmail.com soon. I'm planning on making the current batch of DVDs the final one since the orders have dwindled to less than a trickle. ;) Thus, I won't be buying supplies in bulk in the future and would have to raise prices on individual orders. :(
