Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Putting players into the NHL is a nice side effect but certainly not the goal of the program. We win. Frequently and fairly consistantly in big games. Granted; claiming Jerry to be the greatest coach ever is subjective but to say he is anything less than absolute current top echelon and among the best ever to coach the game is not realistic at all. Talent pool, coaching staff, recruiting etc. all fall within his job description.

I agree with all your points. I was simply trying to say that it is amazing what good recruiting will do for your coaching IQ.
Doc Rivers was a moron for several years until 1 trade. It was not to long ago everyone said BC couldnt win the "big" game.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Seeing that they have raised more banners than BC, I wouldnt worry to much about their program.

Not since York showed up at BC... We ARE talking about the coaches, right? I mean, it doesn't make much sense that we're validating a coach by who is doing well in the NHL and not what the coach did with them while he had them, right? Or do we discard that and go right into the "shooting (Swedish) fish in a barrel" recruiting theory and discredit them there, which is Michigan more than anyone... Oh hokydad, you crack(er jack) me up. I think you've got all your arguments Twizzlered up in your head.

It was not to long ago everyone said BC couldnt win the "big" game.

When, 2000? After York's 6th year? Were you one of them? I bet those people must feel real stupid after seeing BC win a 3 "big" games in 10 years...

Jerry York obviously has nothing to do with recruiting. That's a given.

Also, CLEARLY it is perfectly reasonable to compare trades in professional sports to recruiting in college.

Do you think before you post?

Hey Hoky...

I really don't think you're worth the time to reply to, but I'm gonna violate my own better judgment here.

So:

BC wins not because the coaches are great developers and strategists, but because they recruit well.

However, Michigan obviously recruits more talented players (hence, the bigger number of alums in the NHL).

Yet BC's program outclasses Michigan on the ice this decade.

Hmm, could it be the coaching?

Thanks for proving your own point wrong...

not to down the great Michigan hockey program one iota but 6 of their 9 NC's were in the first nine years of NCAA hockey, 1948-1956. I hadn't realized that and i know they count as much as any of the others but i thought that interesting. Also, if my short memory serves me, there was a big gap (1964-1996) without one winning until winning 2 of 3 1996 & 1998:( ?? what's this mean, not much i guess but strange they went 32 years in between and now haven't won since that heartbreaking 1998 win in the Gahden

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I agree 100% with the last 5 posts.

The point was how coaches get to much blame when times are tough, and maybe to much credit when life is good.

Parker does not all of a sudden have Alzheimers....

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

No more so than any other Irish lad from Boston in his 60's...

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Boston College folk,

Some guy from Novosibirsk posted your games against Miami and BC in 2010 Frozen Four on the Russian bittorrent tracker, rutracker.org, with commentary and play-by-play in Russian:

vs. Miami:http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2890110
vs. BC: http://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2890991

The Russian commentators are professionals, albeit of a regional, as opposed to national stature: Alexander Tkachev and Sergei Kashirskii. Sergei Kashirskii was the Vice President (and a de-facto GM) of HC Spartak Moscow from 2002 to 2006. Spartak is one of the more famous old Soviet clubs.

The files in the torrent also have English soundtrack (Gary Thorne & Barry Melrose). I haven't actually downloaded these, so can't attest to quality. I assume Sergei Kashirskii is doing color commentary and Tkachev is doing play-by-play.

Thought you guys might find this interesting or at least amusing.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

It's funny when fans freak out over regular season losses, but even funnier when they freak out about playoff wins. It wasn't long ago that we heard these lines on this board.... "if they play like they did against Maine, they will get blown out in the NCAA's", "wow, if they play like they played against Alaska, they will get beat by a good Yale team", "what's up with their defense against Yale?, if their D can't get it together, the frozen four will be ugly". They made everyone's concerns look silly.

Kenny, the point is they DIDN'T play in the FF like they did against Maine or like they did against Yale. They played at an amazing level. You'll never get me to admit that it's not ok to have concerns after you give up 6 goals in a HE title game and 7 in a regional final.

No more so than any other Irish lad from Boston in his 60's...

Anyone know if York is Irish?

BTW, when can we be expecting the announcement from BC that a player has signed a pro contract???

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I think some of you are still unaware that the video from the BC Hockey banquet is up on youtube, so here it is:

Part I:

Part II:

Absolutely love the "Everybody's hands go UP!

...and they stay there." parts.

2:30 mark

HE ref called that interference :p

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

BC hand picks who they want and no one else in this region has that luxury.

That's a bit of stretch, IMHO. BC loses some recruits to other top programs just as all top programs lose some kids. No program wins every kid they might want. Additionally, there are plenty of good players BC can't pick for academic reasons, or because some players may not pick a Catholic school, or a city school, or any number of other reasons.

That BC is a successful program is a tribute to the hard working players and coaches who have built that program to be the best in America over the last decade. They deserve every honor they've earned, and if they have a recruiting advantage, it's because they've earned it.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

J.D., are you asking if someone has signed? Or has someone signed and you are waiting for BC to make the announcement?

Agreed.

Virtually none though are rejected for academics. Thats a stretch

Hokydad was fairly certain that a key cog from last year's team has/would be signing (I thought he said by the end of this week, but now I'm not sure because his posts on the subject were deleted)

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

"Maybe they have a couple walk ons lined up but I think we are discussing recruited players, not depth/fillers. Just like BC will probably have to grab a few more bodies over next month or so. If another MacGregor is heading there, great. There are so many Chris Kreiders out there who have not comitted just waiting for the coaches call" (Quote)

That is what I said. Didnt say for sure, said probably.

One did leave, other from what I hear has said no to offer and is staying at the heights. Good for BC>>>>>

You: They will say soon enough.

Me: typical response

Your rep to me after this exchange:

"a fact.... one transferring, one signing."

I rest my case. You're a fraud.

HAHAHAHA

By the way, can we just say who the player was supposed to be at this point? Does it matter now that they're staying? I'm pretty sure the BC community would like to know who chose another year on the Heights over a professional contract.
