Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

To be honest, I never expect it. BC rarely runs through a regular season and dominates, especially in respect to how much talent they have had on a lot of these underachieving teams in the York era. It's part of the process that makes them so good in March and April. It's taken a long time to deal with it as a fan and it's still a pain, but I'm learning not to sweat it out too much.

good points and it helps our psyche to know that no matter how mediocre they are playing during the season, we always have that ray of hope that Jerry will figure it out and he usually does.......

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Along those lines, I did a little research. Went back to the 2001 BC team...they won HE by seven points. The only other team to win by that margin since was the '08 UNH team.

Doesn't mean much, but that's why the 2001 team was the best to come through here. They were the most consistent team from start to finish. They won everything (well except the GLI :p )

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

we can see what the "pizpot" does as far as limiting our out of conference games so that we arent able to cultivate a rivalry outside the league or at the minumum getting to play these western teams especially at home where we get to see very little
Honestly I think playing Harvard every year when we play them so often in the Beanpot is the bigger headache.

didn't think of that but yeah absolutely....that game doesn't generate much excitement...........even for us;)

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

that harvard thanksgiving game is always one of the biggest sellers. i have to imagine the discounted tickets helps, but they do that for other games and it doesnt draw as well as that one consistently does.

i agree that playing harvard at all is boring. so you can imagine how i feel about getting them twice.

yes, you're right. i remember a big crowd (sellout?) two years ago at that time and there were a ton of young families there (well, more than normal;) ) and the game vs clarkson at the same time last year while a decent crowd was far short of that harvard game

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Conte was banged out like I haven't seen before for that Harvard game two years ago. That game every year gets great crowds. Then again, the crowds are great a lot of the times the students are gone (true last year but the students were pretty good last year!).

We should at the very least drop them the year we get them in Rd 1 in the Piszpot.

I think some of you are still unaware that the video from the BC Hockey banquet is up on youtube, so here it is:

Part I:

Absolutely love the "Everybody's hands go UP!

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I don't know if I'd want to play Miami in the regular season. We are absolutely in their heads in the postseason and it's completely reasonable to suspect we'll run into them in the tournament again next year. Why give them a reason to gain some confidence playing against us?

As for the 'struggling through the regular season,' imo that didn't happen at all this year. I thought it was a very good season from start to finish with only one little dry spell highlighted by the Fenway game and the home loss to BU. It's not like 2007 or 2008 where the team was asleep for huge swaths of the regular season. Not only not getting results, but playing garbage hockey. This year, even in some of our more painful losses (@ Denver, home vs. BU), the team played pretty well.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

They were golden going into christmas. But they were really struggling to win road games there for a while. They were good enough to get 1 seed. Different from some of those other years where they were a 2 or 3 with very wishy washy regular seasons. But still had issues after christmas... not like our 2001 or 2005 regular seasons where they ripped through.

Agreed, I think they were 10-3-1 to start the season. They had a tough couple weeks around the holidays, but quickly returned to form.

If you have been following BC for the last 15 years, you get used to the fact that they aren't going to win every game. It is a ridiculously long season and they are 18-22 year old kids. It's a constant learning process and fortunately, for us fans, they have the best teacher.

It's funny when fans freak out over regular season losses, but even funnier when they freak out about playoff wins. It wasn't long ago that we heard these lines on this board.... "if they play like they did against Maine, they will get blown out in the NCAA's", "wow, if they play like they played against Alaska, they will get beat by a good Yale team", "what's up with their defense against Yale?, if their D can't get it together, the frozen four will be ugly". They made everyone's concerns look silly.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Interesting points, all good..

But, one does have to wonder if they do have the best teacher or the best recruiting program in place.

The coaching staff is tops and well respected, but how much teaching would they do if they coached Northeasterns roster last year? Do you really belive that they would have been better because they played under them vs Cronin etc?

hats off to BC, they have proven to be the best in the country over the past decade+ and all accolades are deserved, winning will do that for you.

But ask yourself one thing. Did Doc Rivers become a genius or did one trade make him smarter?

BC hand picks who they want and no one else in this region has that luxury.

Great recruiters? yes. Great managers? yes. Best role model? for sure Great coaches/teachers? probably yes. The best? we will never know. Best role model, for sure

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Pfffffffffft. Candyvan looking to rile people up today... Who cares? They recruit and coach well enough to win (and considering what they've done next to the next best programs in the country in the past decade, "win" is somewhat of an understatement). They develop guys into NHL players which enables them to continue to recruit the best. Go have this conversation with yourself.

I will go with Option B and stay here and say what I want. If you dont like it, dont read it. Stick to playing with vans and talking about perverted stuff

Last year for example, Michigan had 25 players in the NHL, BC 16.

Nice to see you had some spare time today during the late afternoon after the kids went back inside after recess.

Anyway. Michigan recruits better than anyone. They should have more NHL players. And we've discussed this before regarding York not getting the NHL type but rather the kid that will succeed in college.

Andrew Alberts is in the NHL (6th round). Ryan Shannon is in the NHL (5th round). Scott Clemmensen is in the NHL (8th round). Peter Harrold (undrafted) is in the NHL. Nathan Gerbe is in the NHL (5th round). Brian Boyle is in the NHL (1st rd but a huge project that could barely skate before coming to BC). Rob Scuderi is in the NHL (5th round). That's enough right there for me to know York can develop talent.

If only they raised banners for "developing NHL players and doing nothing with them"... it'd be right next to the banners they give people for coaching D1 players for 8 years!!!!!

Get a life you creepy clownshoe.

Putting players into the NHL is a nice side effect but certainly not the goal of the program. We win. Frequently and fairly consistantly in big games. Granted; claiming Jerry to be the greatest coach ever is subjective but to say he is anything less than absolute current top echelon and among the best ever to coach the game is not realistic at all. Talent pool, coaching staff, recruiting etc. all fall within his job description.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Seeing that they have raised more banners than BC, I wouldnt worry to much about their program.

Go BC...
