Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

I would not say the kid could not "hack it"...he did leave early and some suggest it had to do with being under utilized as a player. 3rd liner versus top 6 player.
Agree strongly that he should have stayed the year but came home early and left Moncton holding the bag. They could trade his rights to another Q team but unlikely now to get much value. Dubuque did draft him sometime ago so that is a logical choice for him, understanding this is his NHL draft year.

It is just a shame it has not worked out for him but life is full of choices and he may yet develop into a nice player down the road worthy of NHL eyes if he performs well in the USHL.

Reminds me a bit of Malcolm Lyles and his belief that BC had not fully utilized his skill set, spent time in Western Canada, and returned to apply his craft at UMass Lowell. Difference being Brandon has no ability to go to college in US and play hockey!

Hope it works out for him as he was a talented recruit not that long ago that BC was really excited about getting!

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

He left because they lied to him and he was injured. Has 4 years juniors left. Will land in Major Juniors again down the road

Hindsight is always 20/20, but this whole scenario does not reflect well on the Shea family. He's lost a lot based on his choice - the ability to play college hockey, the ability to get a free education, leverage with MJ, etc.

Hate to see this happen to a local kid, and hopefully he has learned a very important lesson.

I agree with you
he has enough in the bank from deal to pay for BC education 5 times over ++++

Wow. BC is what, 54k per year, room, board, tuition? 4 year education = $216,000.
So you're saying the kid got 1.08 million dollars ++++ to play MJ?
Me thinks you are probably wrong. Why would any hockey player go to college if they can make that kind of money?

Shea got $125K for signing.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Just a crappy situation all around. Only a couple years ago he was being described as one of the best players to come out of New England in years and a potential very high first round draft pick. Can't imagine that being the case any more.....

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

I didnt get to say it earlier but congrats to BC, they have been working the National Title label rather well the past few years

Biggest farce out there is schools saying you get a free 250 k education. Very few ever pay 50%+
Most oay a furaction of that. Saw a study that said avg football player would have paid 8 k pet year. 32 k is a long way from 250 k.

The average football player also goes to Directional Bumf*** State. We're talking about Boston College.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

and the avg kid at BC pays about 15-18K. I doubt knowing familiy situation it would be half that

we're average+ and i paid a heck of a lot more than that out of pocket to send one of my kids to BC (AND she has student loans as well) , 15-18K a year ? i'd have signed on to that rather quickly.......of course it is all done by a formula supposedly

Harvard is less..... Avg is a relative word.. The avg American still makes around 40K. With the schools(BC included) obsesed with diversity and blind aid etc, you can get the picture. Make 100K and go to Exeter then Harvard for free

I was just responding to what you stated... "he has enough in the bank from deal to pay for BC education 5 times over ++++"

You are talking athletic scholarships now, which isn't an option for the student in question or the average student. But, anyone can do the math on what you have stated above and see that you are saying he made over 160k in his deal (5 times 32k = 160k ++++).

Personally, I don't care what the kid made and feel it's none of my business. Can't figure out why you think it should be everyone else's business and post it to the world.

Jeez HD... you gotta calm down a little bit. It's summer!

Let's head back to the UNH thread and talk about bad players from Malden Catholic. Or should we go to the Providence College thread for that?

I am not the one getting all worked up over someone speculating on how much a signing bonus was. Pro reported on this thread exactly how much it was, has been written about and talked about 50 times.
