Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I finally sat down and watched Saturday's game on the DVR. You see it differently on TV than in person.

- The officiating was absolutely horrible. Particularly when the Maine guy took a hack at the back of Kreider's knee and didn't get the call, but hey, as soon as play resumed, sure enough there it was, BC was on the PP. Embarrassing. There were several very weak penalties on BC, particularly in the 1st. I hope this doesn't make them gun shy Saturday against a surely more surly western team.
- They need. to. clear. the. zone. better. This starts by winning the 1:1's. It was clearly evident that Maine wanted it more.
- Someone else pointed out that they were shocked that BC was better on faceoffs than Maine. I agree, it sure felt lopsided. Hopefully they are working on what happens right after a faceoff this week.
- Again, Muse is weak to the high stick side.
- BC does a good job of hitting the net, and if Maine had put more shots on net then I think the game would have had a different complexion.
- Wilson wasn't as bad on replay as he seemed in person. He seemed vulnerable to long slappers/wristers.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Kenny, you seem to be missing something here. Nobody is overreacting. There is no sense of doom and gloom. It's perfectly ok to have concerns with how they played Saturday. I really don't understand why that's a big deal. You keep glossing over the fact that they did not play well. Again, everyone is thrilled that they won the Hockey East Championship. There is also no sense of entitlement. If they get beat at some point, they get beat. You're not gonna see people on here calling for York's head or anything like that. We want them to win the national championship, but to do that, they'll need efforts more like Friday against Vermont.

I guess the shine from the trophy is glossing my vision.

bob, i agree about the missed call on kreider, but to be honest, i didn't see it when i was watching in real time. it wasn't until they showed the replay, at which point my thought was "wow, the refs missed that one." of course, they came right back with a make up call, so in the end all was righted... doesn't excuse it, but end result was just...

re: the first period, go back and look at the penalties. just about all of the hooking calls called on bc showed a bc player not moving his feet and reaching with the stick from behind a maine player... they may not have been bad hooks, but the combination of not moving the feet, reaching, and holding the player up (even the slightest) is a recipe for taking a penalty... the one penalty that i thought was atrocious was the one along the boards to the left of the bc bench when janney commented "how do you get a hooking penalty with one hand on the stick?"

I was dumbfounded by all of the reaching BC was doing, given their team speed and skill... i don't know if it was a byproduct of the work rate of the maine players catching BC a bit off guard, or whether they were taking maine a bit too lightly given the goaltending situation/past results, but they need to clean it up for this weekend and beyond... if they take the so-called lazy penalties going forward, they won't be hoisting a trophy in detroit rock city

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Guy can't catch a break, which is unfortunate.

That said: BC will be fine re-inserting Shea into the lineup.

INCH:

Boston College

Kreider, Hayes are like
Ed Jones of BC forwards
They are way too tall

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Kreider, Mullane, and Milner all helped out the BC Women's Hockey team yesterday in their annual charity sled hockey game.

I got to play in the game with these guys. Great of them to come ref (and play for a bit too!).

After the game, I had Kreider pass me the puck and then I shot it into the net, just so I can say I scored on an assist from a future NHL player. :)

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

They're saying over in the syndication thread that the Alaska game will be live on Comcast SportsNet New England (soon to be renamed xfinity SportsNet?) at 1:30.

Does that mean you can watch it if you get comcast?

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Just another name for Comcast. Their reputation is so bad in some areas they are changing their name.

Also, Please do your best to kick the living **** out of North Dakota. They deserve it.:)

Agreed on both counts. I can't stand Comcast but they're such a recognizable branch, I'd be stunned if they changed their name (?).

While I respect NoDak, my favorite WCHA team is Minnesota. So it'll be extra nice to see BC end the Sioux's season. :) Hope you folks will be wearing the maroon and gold in Detroit - I'm smelling a BC/Denver all maroon final.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I have FIOS and Comcast SportsNet is in my channel lineup. I think it pretty much has to be, otherwise FIOS customers wouldn't get Celtics games.

This is sad news...the kid's physical presence will be missed on Sunday if and when the club gets past Alaska.

The deeper you go in the tournament the more physical style of play is a requirement.

Best for a speedy recovery!:)

GO EAGLES!
