Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Power outage from the top line. Spending too much time in the penalty box. Go Bulldogs.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Ugly but they got it done so I can't complain. Jerry will have them ready for tomorrow.

seriously...

you will always have games when things are not working out the way you plan. title winning teams overcome that and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. (er, something like that)

did anyone in an igle uniform expect to be tied heading into the 3rd today? probably not. but they stepped up and did it (:( )

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Today is my ten year anniversary of posting on USCHO :) Almost 12,000 posts. I think I joined to chime in on a flamefest between Bobo and Pal ...
Congrats on the 10 yr anniversary. Your biggest contribution by far has been fantasy college hockey!

I've been on uscho before they switched over to the current message board. I had a lull in my visiting the site the summer of 99 so that is why I don't have an earlier member since date, but I have been on this message board since late 97 early 98 I believe.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

It's lookin' like we might not get to renew that rivalry with North Dakota. They're down 3-1 in the third. What do we know about Yale? We might be in for a slugfest tommorow.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I think Alaska executed their game plan well...they wanted to slow BC down and turn it into an ugly game and they succeeded in doing that. I'm glad we survived it and will have a chance to play for a spot in Detroit tomorrow.

While I know Alaska wasn't the best #4 seed, they were a dangerous team. It was their first NCAA tourney I think they came out to try to make the most of it.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Good luck against Yale tomorrow.
You'll probably be fine if you pressure their goalie at all. :)

They're fast and good in transition though.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

My interpretation is that teams in this NCAA tourney are 'overlooking' the immediate competition. Not dismissing the efforts of the winners, but North Dakota might have been 'looking ahead' to BC; Denver the same; UNH the same; etc. That ought to be on Jerry York's mind before tomorrow's game against Yale: 'Don't be measuring the sight lines at Ford Field just yet.'

This is one main quality that York has that someone like Umile (obviously, after today) doesn't.

Yale played a very disciplined game defensively, great team D, made very few errors and capitalized on some odd man rushes. They have no fear giving up their body in the D zone and do a fabulous job of blocking or directing shots away from their net. Good transition speed. They had some bad penalties early but were able to hold off the Sioux on the PK. A lot of Sioux shots that did get through missed the net high or wide, or hit the goalie in the chest.

Yale almost completely blew their 3 goal lead in the third trying to protect the lead. They had the Sioux all out of synch for 2 periods and then went into prevent mode in the third. Big mistake, but they went back to their game after the Sioux got 2 and were able to hold them off.

brianvf pretty much nailed it... get shots on net! I think their goalie can be had.

Yes they did. Alaska played a very good game and frustrated the hell out of BC. BC never got into a consistent flow until the 3rd period, where they were able to cycle the puck much better.

BC's depth wore Alaska down by the 3rd. The Nanooks were running 3 lines early on and threw their #1 line out there quite often. Price-Lombardi-Almeida saw a lot of ice time... they should sleep well tonight. ;)

I like wins this time of year. Pretty wins, ugly wins... no matter... it's all good. :)

Good point. I looked at it as BC should have played better, but this is a better way to look at it.

3 is our magic number.

Hopefully BC will take note and be ready for the Yale Bulldogs

Congrats to Alaska for a fine season and close game with BC

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Off-the-cuff prediction for tomorrow: BC, 6-3. I think Alaska was UMass Lowell in different colors. Tomorrow I think we see a Yale team that, actually, allows BC to play their quicker and more explosive game...hence, more goals and a more convincing win.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I don't care what the score is and how it happens, I just want to be flying to Detroit in two Thursday's.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Somewhat. At the same time, the style of Alaska just didn't allow BC to do what they do.

Tomorrow is going to be much more interesting, up and down hockey.

i know he only gave up one today, but muse is certainly fighting the puck, particularly on shots upstairs... he needs to get it together... the only other concern i see for bc is that this is the second game in a row that their marquis players have been kept quiet on the score sheet... while it's nice to know that guys like lombardi and price can chip in with a goal here and there, they need their big guns to produce if they want to win it all..

carmine - if bc takes care of business tomorrow, most of the crew is landing in detroit around 11:15

IDK about Muse fighting the upstairs shots today. Aside from the one off the crossbar which is going off the crossbar even if Dryden is in net. But I guess I'd have to see a replay of the game to really disagree or agree with you.

Of course, he is fighting the shots to the corners overall, as we saw against your hillbillies at the Garden! :D

The top line (or two lines) has been kept quiet for a long time now not just two games. J Whitney looks ridiculously sketchy out there. Gibbons was a non-factor despite his hustle (he hit the deck 2-3 times a shift today, he had a rough go of it).

But that's why BC's depth is important.

Have fun in Detroit.
