Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

You proposed a point, were proven wrong, and now you are doubting those numbers? I didn't make up those numbers on that link, clearly you made up your numbers previous to that.

Regardless, I have no idea what the actual numbers are regarding UVM's student population and whether or not the student body number you provided includes graduate or evening college students, etc. Let's be honest, a monkey could get into UVM. To say otherwise is foolish.

The bottom line is the 10% number you list is more likely the percentage UVM has of NOT being blown out by Boston College on Friday.

I proposed a point, I was wrong and stated that.

I do doubt that the numbers are provide are up to date as the applicants numbers are 40% of what the UVM website provides. This increase has been dramatic as Fogel has done this intentionally to restore the schools image to what it was 20 years ago....a public ivy.

If you do not have an idea of the numbers then look at the link I provide. That is readily information and is only a click away. Your assertion that UVM has low standards just isn't true anymore. It was, I won't argue that, but its not the same anymore.

The bottom line is you are behind the times, don't read the posts, and do not bother to check and verify others assertions. I corrected myself and admitted the mistake which you would know if you read the posts. The statistics were provided by the link I posted which you are too lazy to read. If you want to continue to harp on it then by all means go ahead.....you are only showing your true ignorance.

True ignorance is achieved by posting random and made up facts and continuing to spin once proven wrong with factual evidence. In another word: you.

The numbers for UVM from the Princeton Review, a source that I would consider respectable and up-to-date, wouldn't you?

Freshman Acceptance & Retention
Total applicants: 22,365
Total applicants who are accepted: 15,856
Total of accepted students who enroll: 2,610
% of students who return for their sophomore year: 85%

15,856/22,365 = 70.9% acceptance rate.

Luckily 15% realize they made a poor life choice and transfer out...

See for yourself here

I really don't give a **** what % of applicants UVM (or any school) accepts, because that doesn't really have anything to do with the quality of a school's educational offerings.

That said, bwahahaha at jcarter's incredible ability to make stuff up. Unreal.

Harvard, Princeton and Yale linger around the 10% acceptance mark... and probably MIT... sorry, I don't think anyone is putting UVM (or BC) in that category...

And we we have a winner.....each school has something for the people who choose to go there. If you don't like it don't go there, simple enough. Applies to UVM, BC etc..

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

The campus and surrounding town are absolutely gorgeous. Well worth making the trip next year. I believe BC will be up there for a full weekend next year - I trust you will rustle up some students, spend the weekend in Burlington and raise some hell.:)

Thus the reason I went there. Throw in 45 minutes from Skiing and it makes for a great college experience. To each his own. This must scare the hell out of one of us if we are starting to agree;)

A couple of points here. 1st of all it is a state institution and has a responsibility to the residents of Vermont. That alone drives up acceptance rates. 2nd, acceptance rates don't mean a thing in the grand scheme of things. Without understanding the pool of applicants it is just a number. Schools with lower acceptance rates than BC in 2009 include UCLA, CUNY-Baruch, SUNY-Purchase, BYU at Hawaii and Mississippi Valley State.

So maybe a monkey could get into UVM who knows. At the same time given the fact that there are about 5 large Catholic institutions and 65 million+ Catholics is it fair to say that BC's acceptance rate is low due to the fact that there are more students who believe that Jesus rode a dinosaur than there are spots to hold them all (number of spots in Catholic institutions who uphold Catholic doctrine)?

All that matters is does the school fit those who choose to attend and does the curriculum fit their needs. As for the game, it depends on which UVM team shows up.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Well with the game against Syracuse in Buffalo it will be hard to pick a game. My commute is too long or I would go see the hockey game.
I expect many will stay home and watch both on TV.

Otherwise I think you'll have a split between fans who don't care about the NCAA tournament because they know they're going to get bounced by 25 who will come to the Garden, and the ones who are crazy gung-ho about being in NCAAs who will go to Buffalo.

Just like UVM Hockey last year, they beat a few cupcakes to advance to a tournament where they're just happy to be there, but with no reasonable hope of advancing further.

...:)

They didn't make it to Boston last year..they got bounced by UML in the 1st round (just ask the UML fans they will remind you for generations about it). BTW where was BC last year I don't recall seeing them in the tourney? ;) Once again that's why they lace them up and play...who knows who will win.
