Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

they do have their own thread and people post, right here on USCHO

really? you think they'll show up in "bunches"? i'd like to see it but i'm not holding my breath. i will be at both men's games and have been shamed by TTT20:o into thinking about going to the women........

I've never seen UMass-Amherst fans in "bunches" anywhere, except their own rink, and even then, their support is minimal for such a big school. Regarding the women's game, I'd disagree you are a bad fan if you do not attend. There are simply way too many sporting events on campus to attend all. Also, I have been fortunate this year to attend a ton of college hockey games, some outside of New England, but many people, including myself now fill up their gas tanks for over $50 and time is increasingly more valuable, especially as you get older. Also, I'm not an NBA fan at all as I've always been a hockey guy. However, I like college basketball and love March Madness. There will be this little thing called conference tournaments going on this weekend.

I'd say BC fans get a pass from being called bad fans if they don't attend the women's game.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

From what I heard, a good number of the men's hockey team went to Walter Brown Arena to support the women's team yesterday.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

I expect UMass fans to show up in bunches if BC fans don't fill up the rink.

Not a chance. There were maybe 50 UMass fans at the last game at Conte and that was a Saturday night with a long time to plan the trip to BC. This time they have a week's notice and most casual fans probably don't even realize their team is in the playoffs.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

My guess of 6k was based of my constant shock of attendance especially in 2011.

My first wow moment was when PC was sold out during winter break, and then 2 weeks later was sold out again vs. the worst team in HE we've seen in a while in UML. The only game in 2011 that didn't sell out was the first UMass game where there were nearly 7k.

I agree, I expect few UMass fans making the trip.

I'd say that's the norm--to be expected almost.

It'd be a lot easier if this were a true doubleheader on Saturday. The 1/7 PM starts makes it difficult to attend both.

As for UMass fans showing up, who knows. They seem to bring a decent crowd to Conte--or at least have done so for a few years. Last year, attendance against UMass was 2,888 on Friday and 3,148 on Saturday. Given the attendance boost this season, I think 4,000+ would be outstanding as we know these games don't draw well.

One final note: this site has been sucking hard lately. Are they ever gonna get all these kinks worked out?

Agreed I was thinking of starting a thread to make sure I wasn't the only 1. I'm debating whether it's snail slow or molasses in January slow -brutal.

It should be improving as they've made some more upgrades.

Melissa, i have a question for you. You follow and support the hockey teams, both men and women but not any of the other sports and i find that odd. can you explain?

Agreed. On top of the long planning time, the UMass Athletic Department also had a bus and ticket package from door to door for $10. Even with that there weren't many fans, so I'd say "bunches" will be expecting a lot.

For those of you that weren't at the game on Friday or missed the third period intro, Eagle Marketing just posted their new third period intro video.

You can watch it here.

It seems like they have really gotten their act together with their marketing and other game day experience material, so well done!
I was there and saw it... well done!
The sound system and video boards in Conte are awesome.

I'm waiting for Eagle Marketing to include the beginning of Led Zeppelins 'The Song Remains The Same' into a video. That intro would fire anyone up. The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' ain't bad either.

I have no ties to Boston College. I was a Devils' fan. First college hockey experience was going to a Beanpot to check out Brian Gionta & Scott Clemmensen when ?sophs?. Got hooked, kept going and by the time they won in Albany had become a BC fan instead of a Gionta/Clem/Dziama (the Devils' prospects that year). Expanded to include the women's team more recently. I was born (well, not quite as I'm adopted, but close) an Alabama Crimson Tide football fan, brought up on the belief that the Bear was a member of the Trinity. Never got into soccer at college level and can't give a flip about any other sport other than when they mess with hockey schedules.

Great job by members of the men's and women's hockey team this afternoon, hosting a game against the East Coast Jumbos who defeated them 10-8.

I'm not sure exactly what the makeup of the Jumbos team is, but I know they have some deaf, autistic & at least one Down's kid on the team. Lots of credit to Milner in giving up those 10 goals while looking like he was trying to stop them (he tried really hard to give up more). All the skaters did a great job as well.

I spoke to a couple of women hockey players this morning and told them congratulations. When informed they were hosting Minnesota Saturday afternoon I replied, audibly, "I might try to make that." Now I'm beginning to fel obligated.

I sincerely hope this question does not come off in any other way than what it is intended as, curiosity. Did you go to school for photography? I was a journalism major and took one photo oriented course while in college. I have always believed you either have it or you do not, when it comes to the skill of taking photos. Some people just seem to have that knack. Is it a hobby or is it your full time profession? Don't mean to get off topic, but since sterlipoo asked you a question already, I figured it'd be a good time to ask. Either way, you do a great job and I know a lot of the parents of HE players appreciate your work.

Did not go to school for it; did take one class a couple of years ago well after I started shooting hockey that I think helped me improve (could have learned everything simply by forcing myself to go through camera manual, but needed the class to force me to do that). Failing at doing it full time. Need to find a job asap to pay the bills.

Did BC lose to Minnesota the last time they made the tourney?
Yes they did. We're 0-2-1 all time against them. Somehow I've been to all three, even though they were all in Minneapolis. Minnesota was HEAVILY favored in all three - they were top 2 or 3 in the country at the time in each, while we were 7th or so at best and below .500 at worst. However, the two losses were both by 1 goal. BC and Minnesota are very even in this upcoming game.

And I'm glad the shock value of my post has at least gotten some awareness regarding the game :)

Were you the team manager for the women's team? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but you keep saying "we" and traveled all the way to Minneapolis. You obviously have an emotional connection that most fans of BC or the men's team do not have.
