Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

Hi from beautiful Oklahoma...currently downpouring. 4-6 inches of snow on the way

1st in hockey east, highest rated HE in the PWR, hayes back (according to my dad)

York again will not win coach of the year, but he's done a phenomenal job as usual. Things are good!

Any updates on alber?

Judging from what Alber himself said, the fact he was recently seen on crutches and all the medical opinions, I would be shocked if he made it back before the HE Tourney, if not the NCAA's.

I thought there was a radio segment where he said hewould be back at some point but maybe just wishful thinking on his part.

He may be physically able to play in 3-4 weeks, but then the question is just how effective would he be? Would hate for his first game back to be the HE championship game, or worse yet, the frozen four, but unfortunately that's how it's looking....

Getting ready for the Lowell game and in looking over their roster was shocked to see Malcolm Lyles still there as I was sure he'd be in the NHL by now after listening to Hokydad tell us how he was the hottest commodity since Bobby Orr.

He'll be lucky to see the ice on Senior Night. Whatever each of our programs saw in him never panned out.

Hoky still claims pro teams are gonna be fighting over him. That's hoky's problem, can't admit when he is wrong.

Good point about alber, but at the same time...I think people would agree sullivan would be odd man out, right? You might be able to at least get a sense of whether or not alber can play by watching him in practice. Even then maybe it's a situation where he dresses but doesn't get his normal ice time.

Thoughts from Merrimack Sunday...

This team controlled play in the third period because they finally started throwing shots on net and were looking for the dirty goal. Guys were crashing the net and Mack was overwhelmed. I think more shots came from the D in that period than we usually see from the D in 3 periods. Good stuff. A little puck luck and that game would have ended in regulation. We need a lot more play like that... this team can't rely on pretty goals alone... they need dirty goals, like the game winner.

First line is a cluster phk. Reassemble the best line in college hockey. Or, if Hayes can play RW, put him there. I've got nothing against Linell's game, but he is clearly not in sync with Mullane/Gaudreau. There are 5 thoroughbred forwards on this team... time to ride 'em again.

Smith/Brown/Dyroff is the most functional line right now... it's the only line with any chemistry. You always know what your going to get when these guys roll over the boards... consistent hard hat work ethic every shift, and they're paying dividends.

Parker Milner staying focused for 60 was HUGE. It's crunch time. I can see him staying in the zone for 13 more games. ;)

Perfect, thanks. I don't mind paying. Usually cheaper than the ticket, much less the other costs of getting there.

I know there's a guy here who loves linell but I'm with you fivehole...I just don't see it

Re: Boston College Hockey, '12-'13, Volume II: #JohnnyHockey or #GaudreaubeyBaker?

I said this last year and will say it again. Johnny doesn't need any help when he's got the puck, especially behind the net. Get the hell out of his way and get in position to bury the puck he'll put on your tape. Whitney would have 3-5 more goals right now playing with Gaudreau, with probably a hattie on Sunday. Johnny dished some passes across the crease that should be goals... alas, no one home. Speed kills, but it works both ways... sometimes you gotta slow down to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

so the feeling here seems to be that Jerry puts or should put the top line back together, the question is who goes with Hayes (assuming he is back) and Arnold? I think we have to get those two back together especially with the emergence of the third line. No way this team can roll four lines obviously. Is it Linell or Straight? I guess Straight has played a bit better of late so go I with him and his +5. Yes FiveHole12, i said Straight. That means we are basically back to where we were in October less the fourth line..................Hope something special will be done on Senior night other than the usual . The most decorated class in BC Hockey history deserves something extra but it's not Jerry's way

That's what I like about you Joe... you're flexible. ;)

We can roll 4 lines. IMO, we have to roll 4. Just shorten the bench when needed.

yeah roll 'em until the third period i suppose.

From Hockeyeastonline.com:

Boston College: Sophomore forward Quinn Smith, who scored twice in BC's win over Harvard (Feb. 4), has all six of his goals this season in the last nine games and has tallied nine points during this stretch. Smith's linemate Patrick Brown has also scored twice during this stretch, giving the Eagles third line eight goals in the last nine games………With its win at Merrimack BC improved to 4-1-1 after Feb. 1, 2013, and 49-5-3 after Feb. 1 in the last four seasons:eek::eek::eek: (88.6 win percentage)…..BC is 38-for-42 on the kill in the last nine games (91%).

They forgot to mention... three of Smith's goals have been game winners.

It was said above, I wouldn't mind seeing Silk there for a game or two. We know what we have right now in Straight, maybe you run into something.

We always talk about the D tightening up come trophy time, and there it is.

I think that's the way to do it is to get back to where they were in October. I think the line shakeup was just that, a shakeup to get them out of a funk. I'm ok with either putting Straight with Arnold and Hayes or Linell or even bringing Silk up. Straight and Linell are similar in that they are both playing hard and just aren't able to do much. I know Bluehorseshoe is going to have a heart attack because I didn't try to induct Linell into the hall of fame but it is what it is. Top line has no chemistry with Linell there. He plays hard it's just not really there right now but I do have a lot of hope for him to breakout in the future. Emergence of this 3rd line has really helped this club.

Another big one tonight.

I get the sense that if they do another one of these turn it on moments, that they will need to wait until the very last second to do so like that 2008 team. BC won't be running the table from here, that's for sure.

BTW, Whitney is ridiculous this season. You could arguably put him in the Hobey race as Dave Starman mentioned on Sunday.

I would like to see a little more snarl/nastiness out of this crew. Matheson has it but BC can't afford to see him in the box.
