we're you there? i went walking about before the 3rd started - looking for an old dude with a camera asking young co-eds if they wanted to get a picture taken... but no dice.

was going to ask how the shoulder is coming along. hope it's doing well.

Joe Whitney needs a shave. Do they not issue razor bladez at BC  :p

Awful game chock full of lazy play and blown chances. I worried Parker was going to ride last year's championship for the rest of his days here and it looks like that is coming true. There's no excuses for playing at 70% effort all game. The last period said a lot to me as BC was out there hustling trying to make things happen as a 3 goal lead with 10 minutes less isn't insurmountable. Meanwhile BU couldn't wait for the game to end.

There's two plays in particular that stick out. One was the bang-bang play to Periera in front of the net where he had a great chance for a goal but missed the net by 10 feet. Ridiculous - you HAVE to make those shots. The next was Saponari on a shorthanded breakaway lets the puck bounce over his stick. It wasn't jumping around that much and you have to capitalize on that. Instead he lazily follows it behind the net, at which time 4 BC defenders are back to block the pass.

As far as the rest of them go I thought Fidel Nicastro and Shatty played pretty well. Rest of the D not so much. Millan wasn't the problem although he didn't put up a performance like last year's NCAA's vs UNH (which is what it would have taken to win this game).

Give BC a lot of credit in the shot blocking department. Haven't seen them all year but wondering if York has them in lock down defensive mode this year like he'll tend to do if he doesn't have a lot of scorers.

Re: Boston College @ Boston University, 12/5 - The First Of Four Venues

what game were you watching? bu came out totally flatfooted while bc was gunning on all cylinders. bc was killing us along the boards and in the neutral zone and only some 08 09-esque millan goaltending kept bc off the board. we had a good 2nd but couldnt convert on a lot of chances. in the third we came out relatively weak and it was clear bc wanted those two points more. we are a team of playmakers with no finishers. its like were a beautifully built new building that has no roof. we need guys to step up who simply can finish the play and get the puck in the net when the opportunity is there. uvm was whiff city and last night was similar with more than a few passes to an open man for a tip in that went untouched. paging jason lawrence... edit: this was suposed to quote superfan joe..stupid mobile uscho

I agree with this post 95%. I'm calling the 2nd period very good. Yeah, I know they only scored one and blew the 5x3, but more periods like that will win a few games. If for no other reason than the other team will have a tough time scoring. Of course they can't hit the broad side of a barn. I loved Parker's quote in the Globe today: "Five or six times we had point-blankers and we shot high and wide. The puck's not going in the net for us." Ah, coach. You are who you are.

BU Hockey: Finishers Needed (Perhaps someone can find a Finish Finisher.)

It looked like BU was flatfooted and tired, but I actually think that might've just been because they were playing against a ridiculously fast BC team. I've seen all the HE contenders in person now, and I don't think there's much doubt in my mind that so long as Muse is better than the .870-something save percentage (or Milner steps up, I suppose) he had coming into last night, BC is the best team in the conference.

York's squad can fly, hit, block shots and does a great job stretching the ice with a varied, creative passing game. They're also (obviously) well coached. York admitted to making some sort of adjustment at the second intermission. He declined to disclose what that adjustment was, but judging by the way the third period unfolded, I think it had something to do with his team's neutral ice play. Whatever he changed, the result was that his speedy forwards ended up smoking BU defenders on the wings.

Regardless, BC is consistent goaltending away from being a definite top-10 team nationally, IMHO.

I don't do Agganis. Let's plan to meet when BU comes to Conte.

It seems as though BU is having the kind of year this season that BC had last season. There must be something to that NCAA Championship hangover thing.

BC didn't have anywhere near this kind of championship hangover. Maybe it's based on the championship run? BC's was strong and matter of fact and never in doubt. You might not have made the NCAAs, but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying. BU's was nerve wracking and breathtaking and ZOMG crazy-amazing so the fall is harder. Or something. *sigh* I don't know what to think anymore. :o

Hey, did Muse get a new helmet? It looks more white.

Except I'd argue that BC's team last year is still better than the team BU has this year.

Re: Boston College @ Boston University, 12/5 - The First Of Four Venues

BC also had more coming back last year than BU does this year, so although they may not have been this bad, it was probably just as disappointing and unexpected. Not trying to make excuses for BU, but other than the fact that both teams won the national championship the year before, there's not really many similarities between last year's BC team and this year's BU team.

hmmmm.. that friday game is late and on tv. i may stay home and watch BU lose.

i did though get talked into going to fenway if you'll be there. luckily, i bought seat in the igles section (since that was, to me, the best viewing area).

i'll be the island of BU red in a sea of igle maroon and gold.:p

Re: Boston College @ Boston University, 12/5 - The First Of Four Venues

Now, more than ever, I am thankful that BU scored the last 3 goals in college hockey last season!

This season would be even more miserable than it already is if BU had come up short. :o

If they had come up short last year, it would be beyond unbearable around here. And deservedly so. Talk about "Sucks to BU." I shudder to think.
