Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

this from boston.com

While Swofford would not mention any schools other than Syracuse and Pittsburgh, a source at UConn said that Huskies officials already had reached out to the ACC. UConn officials also want to contact BC about playing the Huskies in both football and basketball, with games at Alumni Stadium, at UConn, and at Foxborough, and basketball games at both campuses and at TD Garden.

wonder if Calhoun gave the ok with regards to BC:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Heh if Texas and Oklahoma can do the Red River rivalry game at the Cotton Bowl than I guess BC-UCONN having a rivalry game at Gillette makes sense.

UConn is desperate they know the odds are stacked against them.

I don't want them in the ACC, provide nothing football wise & simply another mouth to feed.

We'll play Uconn eventually. Maybe in 50 years... if they still have a football team. Until then, they can suck it.

Looking at the BC roster, it finally sunk in how unbelievably young this team is.

For BC?

I wouldn't say 6 seniors and 8 juniors is young, not at all. That is very much in line with their program

Their only chance is to align with notre dame and hope ND demands the ACC take them as a Package deal.

It seems sueconn isn't as loyal to the big east as their lawsuits made it appear

Looking from my perspective as a Providence fan, BC looks as good as anyone on paper. Most writers have BU as the best in conference but i dont see it untill they face off against you.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

I agree, as on paper they still have a lot more top end talent than anyone else in the league but maybe BU. Goaltending could be an Achilles Heal, but look for some 2nd tier players from last year, such as SWhitney, KHayes, Almeida, etc to really step up their games.

You guys may have some more rivals coming in. The latest speculation is saying Rutgers and UCONN are next to the ACC. While there might be some bad blood with BC fans with UCONN I'm sure money and the potential for having a nearby rival will heal the wound.

Your right, BC is gonna be both fast with little talented forwards and big with talented forwards. Also their D is very good even with the early departures. The only real ? is in goal.

1 thing to look forward too is the rivalry should be good again. It should be intense no matter how many times they face off this year. Should be pretty even no matter how many times they face off this year. Which is good to see after the last few seasons in which u have owned BU

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Boston College is the deepest team in the East from top to bottom. I'm not sold on Boston U and think BC wins the Hockey East tournament.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Between Kreider, KHayes, Arnold, SWhitney, Almeida, Mullane, Carey, Guadreau, Straight and Linell, BC should be able to roll out 3 very competitive lines and the 4th line should at least be able to hold its own. One worry I have is that we are a bit thin on defense. It will be interesting to see how Macleod pans out this year as he came in as sort of a project last year and seemed to struggle a bit. Would be great if he became a bit more dependable.

Do you really miss them kicking your ***** every year in basketball?

Don't worry, if they join the ACC that tradition will resume....

UCOnn will have a better football team than BC in a few years. Top to botom, it's just a better run athletic department and so once UConn is more established at the D1 level for football, they will assume their rightful place. UConn is the new kid on the block for football, but like basketball, BC will soon be inhaling UConn's exhaust.

BC just doesn't have the athletic department to seriously compete in the major D1 sports (basketball, football, etc). They are never going to have a football or basketball team that can compete for national titles.

Hockey, on the other hand? BC will eat UConn's lunch there all day long!

agree with your points.

one other thing, BC Hockey is the 3rd at best sport fan/support wise at BC.

BC will always be a football than basketball school. Hockey is a very distant thought to alum and athletic dept

This is changing. Unless we're playing Duke or something, few students have really cared about basketball the last few years. On the other hand, BC hockey could be playing PC on a Tuesday and the student sections will still be full.

It's a product of winning, and I'm not really sure if hockey has SURPASSED basketball... but it's not nearly as distant as you make it seem.
