Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Agree...and I think it was overblown by the coaches. On the other hand, maybe it was just the wake up call he needed to realize nothing was guaranteed. Following the sweep at maine, you look and see milner's record and the fact his last outing was a win against michigan tech where he only gave up one goal. I was calling for him at that point for sure.

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

I thought milners role in that was brutally overblown. He had 2 bad games against bu, sandwiched around the notre dame game where he gave up one bad goal on a concentration lapse. The first bu game was a team wide white washing so it's hard to hold him solely accountable for that even. The last bu game was an inexcusable debacle

the goal he gave up vs ND was inexcusable , IMO. i think the criticism at that point was valid. that 3 game stretch especially vs those teams, our rivals, magnified it. i wasn't too confident in him at that point to be honest so i'm glad i wasn't coaching the team:eek:

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Thar's fair, I just didnt get how he was 3rd on the depth chart after beating mich tech and only giving up one goal

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

The goals allowed aside, Milner was very shaky during that stretch. He was dropping everything that him high in the chest area, leaving rebounds lying in and around the crease, etc. Thankfully, that all changed and he has been nothing but sensational since. :)

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Hindsight is 20/20 but at the time I didn't think it was overblown at all.

I think sterlippo's point on who the opponents were is fair, if this was a PC/UML stretch it would probably be different.

The ND goal was inexcusable combined with the BU performances (and subsequently Billet's performance the following night), I think it was definitely fair to explore all options.

many of us including me were fretting because of his "uneven" play vs BU. I remember a lot of us discussing that prior to the Beanpot then being relieved because he had finally played well against them and on the big stage no less. Seems like light years ago

I agree it was pretty gut wrenching. But that same concentration lapse happened again this year vs NU when the linesmen fell down, so it's not necessarily something that got fixed. I guess what I'm saying is that he is still the same kid he has always been. He didn't turn terrible and then turn back.

maybe a confidence issue and some work by Coach Logue who is perhaps an overlooked member of the coaching staff...................i almost threw up in my mouth when ND scored at the end of that OT. We had fought hard and scored late to tie, was ready to be happy with the tie and then that happened

It was a terrible gaffe on Milner's part. That loss at ND pretty much made me sick as well. You make a great point re: Logue. Look at the goalie performance from Clemmensen to now Milner. He has to enter into the equation as one of the reason's for BC's success.

I also do not think enough credit is given to the overall defensive play getting stronger with the return of a healthy Wey to the defensive line up and Parker's confidence last year. The two have played together for years and have great confidence in each other from my perspective. Seems to continue to be getting stronger this season as well. Defense is maturing before our eyes as Parker slams the door in the first quarter of the season.

Wey is another player who's value i think has/had been taken for granted....................that said, The Kid said he thinks Matheson is getting more minutes than anyone else on the team. I bet if he isn't he's real close

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

because it was Michigan Tech?;)

Ha, they weren't the typically awful Tech team as in years past though. I believe Pearson won WCHA COTY, no?

Oh, I had no problem with going to Billet when they did. I'm just talking about a little further down the line when they seemed reluctant to go back to Milner.

I think you're referring to the outdoor game against NU...pretty cool moment for Venti, that's for sure. He didn't play so well the next game against Maine...

the NU game at Fenway for Venti was kind of understandable vs a lower team that had trouble scoring, so it kind of fit. Venti starting at Maine i could not grasp but like i said, it was in Jerry's master plan :D

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

First, 2 points and no major injuries is always the goal vs. Merrimack.

Straight was out w a high ankle sprain, can be 2-6 weeks

Bigos may also be what you pc police like to call "slow"

Whitney can really shoot it. Part of my frustration with him early in his career was the reluctance to shoot.

Hmm maybe we wont see straight till the holiday tourney

What was bigos' deal going after silk?

Re: Boston College '12-'13: Gaudreaubey Baker

Holy crap people! Give the Eagles the trophy--who the hell wants to go to Pittsburgh anyway? Give Johnie the Hobey too (though he had an off night and didn't produce his sixth game winner of the season :-) ). Rock solid and unstoppable!
