Best Crowd

Re: Best Crowd

I was a Packer fan during the 80's. Watched every game. They won like 5 games during the 80's. Brewers....do I even have to spell out how much they suck? Does it matter to me? No. Wisconsin. They were even worse than the Packers in the 80's. Still loved them.
Wait. Is Inferior even in Wisconsin?

Re: Best Crowd

"Romney Rowdies" doesn't really work. A, you don't play in Romney anymore. B, it reminds me too much of the Rowdy Crowd. The Rowdy Criwd, in all of their rowdiness, have the sole right to use the word "Rowdy" in DIII, IMO.

"Campus Center Crazies" - yeah, y'all are crazy, but I don't think that's QUITE what you were getting at with this name. :D

"Gosek's Goon Squad" could work for now, but what about when the finally fire Gosek? ;)

"The Green Berets" would be a nice comparison to the Cadets if you played Norwich with any regularity.

"Laker Loonies" - see "Campus Center Crazies" comment. Also, this name makes me think of canadian currency

"The Green and Gold Gang" - umm... you're Packers Fans now?

"The Woodshed 2" - I can't comment on this one, since I'm probably missing the background on this.

I will say, my favorites of these are "The Green Berets" and "The Green and Gold Gang"

Not sure if anyone explained this yet (I haven't read the whole thread yet), but The Woodshed was a longtime bar that was located just off the edge of campus on the east side down the hill from Romney. I think it closed up about a year ago. Naming the student section "The Woodshed" would be the best name - honoring the town's past and using a term where you go to get a beat down!

I do share the sentiments others have about the crowds in the new building - the probelm with comfort is that it neutered the crowd and takes some of the edge from the crowd, which is too bad. You had to be tough an ornery in Romney - it would be 30 degrees outside and 20 degrees inside there. I miss that place.

Re: Best Crowd

Nothing beats Cornell chanting safety school to Harvard and Princeton:D

or "Princeton's in New Jersey....Princeton's in New Jersey"

classic:cool:

Best "Safety School" chant I ever heard was a couple weeks ago in the Garden when 18,200 Boston U and Cornell fans yelled that at each other!

Re: Best Crowd

- honoring the town's past .

"The Woodshed" would be an excellent nickname for Laker fans.

In honoring ghosts of bars past in Oswego's lore the nickmname could have been:
"Broadwell's Bullies" (a play on words of the 70's Flyer's teams)
The Cabbage "Patch"
"Barney's" Franks (j/k)
"Buckland's Brawlers"
"Wheel" in the Sky (reachin' here)

Lots of good times spent in all of those places, plus the other hundred or so I failed to mention:)

Re: Best Crowd

Possible new names...

Romney Rowdies
Campus Center Crazies
Gosek's Goon Squad
The Green Berets
Laker Loonies
The Green and Gold Gang
The Woodshed 2

The only time I heard this was when I went to Elmira to watch the Lakers play Elmira, and I heard it coming from the Elmira crowd.

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess students will be asked to not wear the shirt when Plattsburgh comes to town, or will you have a back up shirt when the Lakers are the ones behind the shed?? :D

Re: Best Crowd

Middlebury, Norwich, Oswego, Superior, St Norbert all are good atmospheres. I think Stout fans travel well. A lot of others used to have way better crowds. Anybody see that UST SJU game about 4-5 years ago at St. Could? That place was almost sold out.

Re: Best Crowd

I traveled back to Oswego recently to watch them play Morrissville. I, like Prez, was pretty critical of the Oswego State student section during my time at the school as they always seemed to be sitting on their hands if it was a lower-scoring game and lacked knowledge of the game.

But I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw at the Morrisville game. The section was filled and very vocal. Seems like the students are making a comeback. I'd really like to see them come up with a new name for that section seeing as how Zoo Crew was ripped off from another school. And what kind of progress is SA making with the mascot?

Hmmmmm, Who was the original Zoo??? OSU has had a Zoo section since the late 70's. The names, faces, and even sections changed over the years at Romney. But There is no Better student sections in DIII. The difference can be seen in the Winter break games.
Prez and Ryan have seen ~ the same as myself over the last 5 years. But I've been doing this a few years longer than them. I ran the clock at Laker home games back in the mid to late 80's. You couldn't beat the ZOO from those day's. Nobody, nowhere was like those fans. There were some slower years. But then some Kid started running around the place with this big *** flag. And the "quiet" students got a little jealous and started getting a little more vocal throughout the games, not just on goals.

Stick with THE ZOO. And be proud of the fact that your fore-students, have set a standard that is worthy of the designation of BEST STUDENT SECTION.
So for those of you, who are on here. Get the slackers involved. And leave no doubt who has the best student section. Your favorite team will appreciate it more than you can imagine.

GOALIE....GOALIE...GOALIE, YOU SUCK!!!
SKATE, SKATE, SKATE, STOP.
We need a new one!!!!!!!:D

I dont know how long ago you're talking about...but I was the one carrying the flag around Romney my freshman year 4 years ago. Then sophomore year, we werent allowed to have the flags anymore because they were considered "dangerous weapons" at the Campus Center.

In an era when people sue McDonalds (and win) because coffee is hot, all institutions feel obligated to take action to minimize the exposure to any kind of lawsuit. By the way, don't necessarily blame the school - they may have been "influenced" by their insurance carrier to take that action - as in "unless you do this we will cancel your coverage or double the price, or ..."

I know!!!!!!! Why I mentioned you!!
The only thing dangerous in the Campus Center is the A.D.
Somebody rang a cow bell Friday night (Brockport) He was standing next to me and Dan Jones's father. He went a running to find out who had it. If he only understood the effect the crowd can have on a team. (positive for home; negative fof visitor) Now if you ask him who played center for his basketball team in college. He'll chew your ear off for ~ 25 minutes. Trust me that hurts!!!! I KNOW!!!!

Heck with that watch out for some of us from the CCCP :D

I do think it is silly, but OTOH flags are quite acceptable at Krietzberg - we didn't even steal the Platty flag, and the last couple of games, somebody in the student section has brought one, and somebody else has a dry erase board :)

At the end of the SMC game it had the classic "Warm up the Bus" written on it.

I can't wait to see his reaction to Caveman (the loudest human being on the planet) when he heads up there for the Adrian game...
