Beanpot LXXIII: "Please, sir, I want some more"

Split-N

All Hail
Less than three weeks to puck drop with BC and Harvard in the early game while BU and Northeastern go at it in the late game. The Comm Ave. Axis likely the early favorites but you never know. Closest thing NU will have to a true home game for a while now that the wrecking ball has finally arrived at storied Matthews Arena.

Let the intellectual discussion begin.

Wait...what? Less than three weeks? That can't be right!! The new year JUST STARTED!!!! I hope we have OK weather.

I almost started this thread because I didn’t see it in recent threads and I thought “Is everything OK with Split-N??” And then I realized I actually posted in this. :)

Anyway, the fun starts tomorrow. Given how this thread was buried, it almost seems like the excitement is a not as there as it once was. I know I feel that way. I am not holding out much hope for BU.

Hey Split-N, can you post that fun story you post every year? It’s my fave and I want to share it.

Obligatory #GoBU

Ah, Scarlet. At the risk of consorting (but not cavorting) with the enemy, I'll post that in a separate post. Spirits are low at NU and BU, but I'm told the floggings will continue until morale improves. At least we have the late game.

BTW, I'm told that both Harvard fans will be there.

An elderly alumnus from a Beanpot school is settling into his seat—one of the best in the TD Garden--for the Beanpot College Hockey Tournament. The seat next to him is empty. As he sits down, a young lady--a stranger--comes by and asks if the empty seat is taken. "No," he says, "the seat will be empty tonight." "This is incredible," replied the young lady. "Who in their right mind would buy a super-expensive seat like this for the Beanpot and not use it?"

The old alum says, "Well actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Beanpot we haven't been to together since we met as students back in the day."

"Oh, that’s so sad" says the young lady, obviously moved, “especially since it’s close to Valentine’s Day. But couldn't you find someone else--a relative or friend, or even a neighbor--to come here with you tonight?”

The old alum shakes his head and replies, "Nope, they're all at the wake."

And that, boys and girls, is why the Beanpot is special. (Even when the team records stink.)

Meh. Gonna pass on the $60 parking and $19 beer this year. Will tune in on TV
That is what has spoiled it for me. BTW I thought beer was up to $22 a serving and how much for a slice of pizza ?

It was much better when schools were allotted more tickets and you didn't have to pay TM jacked up prices and fees. It's called GREED and inflating the prices of goods and services

I am amazed when the Garden is full with the price of tickets for professional sports teams and what working class family can afford such prices ?

Missing only my 6th pot since 1985. Team is playing like it's Greg Croinin's initial year, $50 to park and $100 in food and beverages wasn't the problem, too cold for my now nearly 60 year old body to walk down Causeway St. We have been abysmal since the break and I really just don't see us beating BC outside of a miracle. I too will watch from the comforts of my den where I just installed a gas insert. I went to the Bentley loss and am kinda packing it in. Would normally root for BU in any season we are out of it, did my grad school over on Comm. ave, but they look like shit too.

Price of the ticket is getting ridiculous, too. $99.60 ??? I asked a local hockey guy if he'd heard any talk about the jump in price? He told me he had not but he'd ask around. He got back to me with 'it sounds like the Garden jacked up the rent for the building'. I love the event but at some point it will not be worth the time, effort and money to attend.

So is Delaware North the owner ? And Jacaobs owns it ? I think many fans just buy the semi round only not knowing if their team will make the finals at these prices.

Why are the games every year promoted as 5:00pm and 8:00pm? The first game would have to end by 7:10 the latest given they have a 45 minute break between games. And that never happens. On a good night the game doesn't start till 8:30. Just say 5:00 and 8:30.

AFAIK, the Garden wholly owns the Beanpot. It's a TD Garden production. So, it couldn't be raising the rent on itself. But to the larger issue of cost: The biggest reason college hockey in Boston is the institution it is...is the Beanpot, and all that comes with it.

And if the bean counters on Causeway St. can't understand why pricing that audience out of a limited but lucrative market isn't a swell idea, they need to go back to B-school.

BTW, it looks like all of the available tickets have been gobbled up by re-sellers, who don't understand (or care) why pricing the Beanpot audience out of a limited but lucrative market isn't a swell idea. Certain people need to go back to B-school.
