Beanpot LXXIII: "Please, sir, I want some more"

Could be… although here on the north shore (wile it says Beanpot on the guide) they are actually showing a documentary on the best rookie seasons in history.

Gotta say that im glad im not in Boston right now given that I may not make it theoigh all of the 3rd period LOL

(I am aware of the “grumpy old man” aspect of rhat statement LOL)

Good game so far: Go BU!

Just saw the game is also on the NHL Network. Maybe that’s why it’s not on ESPN+?
I think it is on ESPN+. I get that and just was trying to watch but it’s blacked out here. ESPN+ plus lineup of live sports has the game but when you click on it, it tells you it’s blacked out here. I pay 129.99 a year for it and can’t watch even from my phone because I’m in Boston. Ridiculous IMO.

Northeastern "won" the championship with a shootout win over Harvard in 2023.
BU "won" the game last night to advance to the championship.

Have there been other cases yet?

The 3 on 3 overtime and shootout is entertaining in regular season games, but the Beanpot is not the place for it.

For a few years - didn't they first do a 5 on 5, 5 min OT before moving on to the 20 min overtimes.

Apart from it being kind of gimmicky.... it does make for shorter evenings.

Although I think all of us from every school look back fondly on some of those late nights where both games went into OT or double OT and all the excitement and anguish that went along with it.

Just not a good way to decide a winner in a tie game, not sure who is in charge of these things but the coaches should push hard for a change.

The NCAA made the change several years ago to only allow full sudden death overtimes in the post season. All regular season games must use the 3 on 3 5-minute OT and a shootout would be used to determine an in season tournament placement but the game remains a tie. I remember when this was announced that this Beanpot scenario would come up and even more so it would happen in the championship game.
