BC Women's Hockey, 2015-2016: Embrace The Cupcake Diet

Re: BC Women's Hockey, 2015-2016: Embrace The Cupcake Diet

You guys really don't like it when someone does something better than one of your Gophers huh?

Newkirk is the highest scoring freshman in the country. I apologize to you on her behalf.

Maybe there should be an asterisk next to her stats since she plays a Hockey (L)East schedule... :)

TTT, just in case you're not trolling, which in this instance I suspect you're not, if only because you didn't want to correct the mistake in your article....

If you go to this page: http://www.uscho.com/stats/overall/division-i-women/2015-2016/

And look just above the table, you'll see the heading "Scoring Leaders". You don't have to look down very far to see the name "Sarah Potomak", who is a freshman forward who plays with the Minnesota Gophers, and you'll see that she has 47 points. Note how all of the players are listed in the table - those having the higher number of points are shown above those who have fewer points. Again, this is a table that displays the nation's D1 "Scoring Leaders". Now, if you scroll down quite a ways you'll find the freshman - the BC player you pointed to in your article - who has the second most points (38, which is still very, very good, but it's clearly less than 47).

What you could do, assuming you want to be accurate in your article and not mislead your readers, is change the reference from "scoring leader" to "goal scorer" (Note: if you scroll down from the "Scoring Leaders table you'll see they have a separate table for those who lead the nation in goals scored. Oddly enough, the heading above this table is called "Goals".

Just doing what I can to help you out here, TTT! Plus correcting the record in support of our Sarah Potomak, the nation's true freshman "Scoring Leader", is important too. :)

At least someone admits they got the point! :D

It's obviously an issue if semantics. She scored the most, therefore it wasn't unreasonable to call her the leading scorer.

Now, would it be clearer to specify that she's scored the most GOALS? Does it matter? Do you all get the point that was being made? Is this another unintended affront to Ms. Potomak? Does anyone seriously care?

The only trolling I'm doing at this point is that I'm not going to change the line because the firestorm anytime someone mentions Newkirk in the same sentence as Potomak is hilarious. But no, I had no trolling intent to say Newkirk is the leading scorer. It's an article on a BC website that will have mostly a BC audience. I was just making a point to emphasize Newkirk's importance to the team for those who are unaware (which unfortunately out here is the vast majority of people who will read that article).

And in all seriousness, with the season bc is having they should be a story that garners more interest.

Interesting that there are 7 ECAC and 4 Hockey East teams above UMD, Ohio State, St. Cloud State and Mankato in the RPI and Pairwise.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the accuracy of my article ;)

How many Super Bowls do you have out there in the twin cities? BOOM GRANT 1 DEADEND65 0

Should that not be 4-0. :D

Given the number of games played between teams in these conferences that amounts to absolutely nothing but sophisticated guess work. I think PWR has the top 3 right but after that you can draw names out of a hat and be as accurate. None of those teams have shown themselves to be as dominant as BC, WI or MN this year. QU might be better than MN, BSU might be better than Clarkson, there just are not enough comparables to be meaningful.

Re: BC Women's Hockey, 2015-2016: Embrace The Cupcake Diet

Congratulations to the Eagles on the second perfect regular season in NCAA women's D1 history.

I'm sorry that Merrimack knocked Quinnipiac and Princeton off our schedule this year -- those would both have been great games -- but we got good tests from Northeastern, BU and even U Conn and came through everything. Hoping for more great hockey in the postseason.

Re: BC Women's Hockey, 2015-2016: Embrace The Cupcake Diet

Much different feel to last year. I'm not saying they'll win, but they are in a much better position to do so than they were last year.

Better enjoy this month because the ride is going to end very abruptly.

Re: BC Women's Hockey, 2015-2016: Embrace The Cupcake Diet

Grant and I have talked about this off-thread, but a big difference between this year and last is that last year the secondary scoring dried up mid-January (maybe because it was driven by seniors who saw the end coming) while this year it's come on stronger than ever. Going to be an exciting few weekends.

Re: BC Women's Hockey, 2015-2016: Embrace The Cupcake Diet

I'm posting in various threads guys because someone must know if Hockey East mandates online video broadcast for playoffs? I do not want to drive 3 hours south....:(

Re: BC Women's Hockey, 2015-2016: Embrace The Cupcake Diet

If on March 20 BC is playing for a National Championship and an undefeated/untied season, even in Boston, that has got to be worth some good press in a hockey town like that doesn't it?

Maybe somebody in your town can break the ESPN embargo on televising Women's hockey championship games and somebody can negotiate a deal with ESPN/NCAA to televise that game in Boston!

BCInterruption.com will have all have all the coverage the world needs. "We're going to cover this like the Super Bowl" as Joe says
