I disagree. The only thing that can save me from a bad drunk in a bar with a gun is a good drunk in a bar with a gun.
It's just the facts.
You can stop sarcastically paraphrasing NRA copy anytime. No one here who supports gun ownership within reason has parroted that horsesh*t.
Let's assume that the bad drunk is a criminal, and the good drunk isn't. The bad drunk's going to have the gun whether or not it's legal. If it's legal, the good drunk will have it. If it's illegal, the good drunk will be defenceless, as will the bartender and owner (if not one in the same). When there's no threat of immediate repercussion, it's more likely that something's going to happen.
Sounds like one less drunk person will have a gun. I would rather take my chances with 1 "bad drunk" with a gun than 2 "drunks" with a gun regardless of their intentions.
Why? Alcohol improves accuracy.
Scooby does have a partial point, but he's not going to like who receives the favour. When you ban guns, the only people who no longer have them are the law-abiding citizens. Criminals don't follow laws.
All the more reason to do it. If it's illegal to carry a gun in Times Square, the po-po don't even need to see me in the act of a crime; I'm carrying, therefore (by your reasoning) I'm a bad guy and off to Rikers.
People making abstract arguments on this issue are missing the point that some laws that make sense at Ma and Pa Kettle's place don't make sense once you reach civilization. That was the point of the "dead line" when you rode into Dodge to blow off some steam.
Photos taken by police on the night that 20-year-old Jessica Mejia was killed show that the young woman was in the back of the vehicle, when police arrived on the scene. According to the Chicago Tribune, which was given access to the photos, pictures taken while she was inside the vehicle show that Jessica Mejia was dressed in a pair of jeans and a white tee-shirt when she died. Subsequent images of the young woman, taken by Sheriff’s deputies in Cook County, Illinois, however, are the subject of a pending lawsuit.
According to the Chicago Tribune, photos provided to them by the family attorney show that police removed Jessica Mejia’s body from the vehicle. They then proceeded to undress her at the scene. Jessica’s naked body was laid out on a tarp. Police then photographed her naked corpse, which they manipulated into various poses.
Got to agree with unofan here. Guns have absolutely no place in a bar. That one is especially frightening.
Please note that under ND law, even with my permit, if I'm carrying my BAL must be 0.0 no matter where I am.
When VA made it legal to carry at places that serve alcohol, there was discussion about this. IINM it is against the law to operate a vehicle with BAC > 0.08. I assume it's the same for carrying; I don't believe there's a lower (or zero) limit.
It's state-by-state for concealed carry. ND is zero. MN is some silly thing like 0.02. Other use the driving BAL limit. How do I deal with all these variations?
I fail safe, as Dear Wormer once said to Mr. Blutarsky, "Zero. Point. Zero."
If you're drinking enough cough syrup to bounce the needle on your BAL
That dude in the ballpark is already breaking a couple laws in my state if he's carrying:
- drunk in public (c) Ron White
- carrying at a sporting event (I can't do that even with my carry permit)
