Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

C'mon Kep, "insist" on "packing". No one is saying that.

As far as cultures, definitely. When you have coyotes or mountain lions or moose walking through your yard you view a firearm as kind of important. (Yes, moose: they are nasty, especially mothers with calves.)

But let's look honestly at the "no guns" town of Chicago. It's not a safe place. And the guns are already forbidden. So, it's worked really well .... for the two-legged coyotes.

Adding guns in Chicago isn't going to make that city any safer.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. If the guy violated the law (discharging a firearm within city limits), there's no cop foul here.

Yes there is, because the cop violated his/her oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

"Right to keep and bear" != "Right to discharge wherever the hell I want". All but the most rabid of bitter clingers can acknowledge that.

What are you talking about? Are you saying that (1) any law regulating gun use is unconstitutional, and (2) an individual police officer has the authority to make that decision, contrary to the will of the legislator and the interpretation of the judiciary?

Because (1) is clearly false, and (2) is the definition of a police state on the other thread.

< hand in air, head hung in shame >

I admit to shooting the living < bleep > out of an old computer and monitor ... and it felt good.
But I did it on private property, in a sand pit, in a controlled shooting range environment.

If I went out into the middle of the street in front of my house and did same, yeah, there'd be consequences.

RE: the number of guns in Chicago

Infinity plus one is still infinity. ;)

The sort of incidents which result in gun fatalities in cities would not be decreased by arming more people. In most situations where there's a shooting death in a city, the other people around (including the victim) have guns too, since they're drug deals gone bad, club shootings, gang violence, etc. It's idiots with guns shooting other idiots with guns -- the NRA's dream of a fully armed community.

You repeated yourself there.

But criminals with guns is not the NRA's dream. Most of what you listed there: criminals or criminal activity nearby. Lie down with dogs --> fleas.

Funny thing is: Once the gun ban was lifted in Chicago, crime and shootings went down. Perhaps the Japanese were right about their saying about the US during WWII. If the guy I'm looking to go after might have a weapon, I'm going to think twice about going after him. Path of least resistance.

Re: Bad Cop, Bad Cop, Whatcha gonna do?

The whole point is that these shootings are between people who know full well they are both armed. The deterrent argument doesn't apply in that case.

But more to the point is that if the citizens in a given community vote to allow or ban guns, then that should be respected. It should be their choice. States, let alone the nation, are far too broad to decide. This is actually one of those rare cases where local, direct democracy is the best solution, since it really doesn't affect anybody outside the local area whether people want to play Tom Doniphon or Ransom Stoddard.

And back to the "how do we change the human heart to be law abiding" question, because I don't carry in "gun free zones" but your drug dealers and gangs ... not so much.

And yet, you whined and complained when Prop 8 was passed in California. Hypocrite.

Flaggy, pls. That's a ridiculous comparison and I think, in the depths of your twisted, paranoid cerebrum, you know it too. A human right is not up for vote.
